I literally lost my shit in this movie, the ending had me BALLING, but I loved it so much and have also now developed a big crush on Callum Turner 🙈🥴. The soundtrack was gorgeous, and I didn't know this was actually a Jojo Moyes book so now I've started reading it and oh my goodness it is so good. If anyone hasn't read it, honestly do, it's so beautiful.

Irrelevant to the story behind the two main characters, yes. But not irrelevant period. The two reporters falling in love gave the entire movie a parallel that added to the movie itself, and did not overpower, or even come near. It was a great addition, IMO.
