- We finish our time at MogMog Island in Yap with a feast honoring the priest who founded their church. We also get to experience life in the atoll in a tropical storm with gusts of 48kts. We end up leaving and heading out to sea for safety as the winds and seas get rather rough.
As a Yapese myself, I wish to thank you today. Your way of educating and sharing your beautiful experiences in this areas are truly amazing. I only hope the feeling is mutual. You are truly wonderful people!😊
Another uplifting video - thanks for starting off our weekend on such a positive note. We are happy that you are also showing the challenging side of sailing, it's not always just days in paradise. And its impressive to see how the kids pull their weight on and off the boat with duties and how nicely they interact with the locals. You are an amazing family!

You should try oneday ,,, we, my people are open n loved it when people from outside stop by ,,,, a lot of visitors from all over the world come n go ,, on their Yatch boat n some jst flew in ...we always welcome new people ,,, I know you wont loved the living or hard to adjust but Yeah this is our home n how we live it so if you wants so experience ,come over n visit our island ...my people loved Americans ,I guess cus USA are the ones safes u during the world war2 I guess,,, so today a lot of my family member from this lil tiny island serving in the US millitary ...

This is by far one of the best sailing videos I've watched and I've been watching these since Delos first launched! The detail about scope and tackle and how it was plotted out was great. The footage of the villagers was the best yet. Y'all are doing what I plan to do in about 5 years and helping with education is one of the things I plan to do while cruising the South Pacific. Great work and I look forward to more of your videos
my wife and l thoroughly enjoyed yyour story aboard Field Trip of your stay in Ulithi Atoll. It brought back fond memories of when we lived there from 1974- 1976 as Peace Corps Volunteers. It brought tears to my eyes as you recounted the hospitality of the Ulithians- probably unsurpassed among the people groups of the world. We also had the privilege of sampling the hospitality of Fr William Walter when we First arrived in Yap some 46 years ago. He had had cancer surgery on his larynx and breathed through a trachiotomy hole left from the surgery. By that tine he had turned this mission over to amuch younger Jesuit priest who was also a tireless servant of the people. Befor he died in 1975 he had arranged

Hey Harry! I hope you are doing well. It worked out fine, and was our first sail in a tropical storm. Many squalls of course with similar winds, but not a consistent drone of 30-40kts for 24 hours. Sure can kick of the seas. :)
Very interesting. Ulithi for the US , as Truk was for the Japanese, anchorage sites for the then huge WW2 war fleets. The mid-Pacific fleet alone under Adm Spruance was by the 1943-44 timeframe over 700 ships; total USN ships for both Pacific and Atlantic was over 2000 ships. Back in the day the Ulithi lagoon would be packed with a huge number of Navy ships there for planning meetings, maintenance, refueling, replenishment, a bit of rest, etc, . Todays US Navy can only muster a total of about 350 but thank god at peace as that war was enormously destructive, although Ulithi did not have to be pulverized, we just borrowed it. It was somehow ideal as a deep anchorage, perhaps size and depth made the lagoon more turbulent than otherwise might be the case for smaller shallower ones. Glad to see the very nice people, i wish them the best; hope i can visit some of those islands one of these days, hopefully more cruise ships will have itineraries thru that area.. Not sure i would ever leave the relative safety of an atoll before i knew for sure the surrounding sea state.

I was there the whole time before I leave my people ,, I work with him fixing up hes boat ,, all the man can n help ,,, jst like what you did to my people teaching them how to Viber glass,,, lots of us came down with knowing nothing about building a Yatch boat but only some does but we help in away we can till hes able to leave ...But for you it's good your onetime to leave ...

Your so lucky my friend for living on time ,,, But I guess your jst on time, there were couple of Boston like yours stranded on our islands some other are when I was lil kid but I do remember those incident happen,,, the last one was the Australian family ,, actually the mainland contact every boat to live straight to Guam for safety, even the US Coast guard on the Radio anounce but he wont listen n came to the same spot around there where he hankord his boat n the same spor where hes Ankord breaks from the wave ,current,winds n break his boat n crash it right there on the shore ....

This was the tropical storm that came thought Yap and went on to the Philippines in later November last year.

The western style of education is not very useful for them. Its making our people leave home & many dont return. Our elders are growing lonely & are working more & more because most of their children are not home, are busy with school works or are off island for work & education.
Im saying this because i am one of those that did not return & it breaks my heart.

My father was sleeping on the deck of a C1-B cargo ship in your Ulithi Lagoon on November 20, 1944 when the US Navy ship USS Mississinewa was torpedoed in berth #131 at 5:47am. The sacrifices of your ancestors during our stay there and the role of your homeland, in saving ours, will not be forgotten by old gray haired men like me. Blessings . . . .

Tia Misrahi its very nice of u to want to live in a peaceful place. We the people of the islands are very loving, peaceful & religious. The beautiful thing is we live with everything that mother nature has to offer us. We only take what we need for today & wait for what tmrro has to offer.
I hope u would do the same & try not to offer changes to the people. We are already on the fringe of losing our ways as many young ones have already left our islands for the west for a better future & to live a better life. It scares me that our culture is dying.
This island/atoll would be a great place for Elon Musk to donate a solar farm...
