    • @aidanwilliams9452

    • @markvincentcocjin
      @markvincentcocjin Před 3 lety

      The planes are going to be used mostly un-stealthed. They carry special reflectors (Luneberg Lenses) that make them easily identifiable on radar. This is the workhorse mode of the F-35.
      They will only have those lenses removed during stealth operations where they infiltrate the enemy. It's really dangerous for Australia to fly the F-35 in stealth mode on a regular basis. It would be pretty easy for Chinese spies living in Australia to set up surveillance equipment that would analyze and register the F-35's signature which can then be used to identify it in a conflict.
      It's a lot like Batman choosing to go around solving crimes in the daytime disguised as a regular person in the city instead of trouncing around as Batman in broad daylight.

    • @GruntyGame
      @GruntyGame Před 3 lety

      The F-35 can't carry sidewinders in its internal weapons bays. It doesn't seem as though it can carry the ASRAAM internally either. Why can't it? That's a good question and I'm not going to pretend to know the answer.

    • @robertleeder1538
      @robertleeder1538 Před 3 lety

      My guess would be that they would not add much to the radar cross section so should not detract from overall stealthiness of F35 but could be wrong.

    • @forzaelite1248
      @forzaelite1248 Před rokem +1

      @@GruntyGame Late to the party but the AIM-9X has to be ignited by the rail system as it doesnt have its own onboard ignition system so it has to be carried externally. The ASRAAM does support this however and lock-on-after-launch so ASRAAMs can be carried internally and paired with the DAS to shoot in 360 degrees
