  • Exercise Diamond Storm 2022 was conducted at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal, and in the skies over the ‘Top End’ of the Northern Territory, from 30 May until 24 June 2022.
    Exercise Diamond Storm 22 is part of a series of exercises that form the Air Warfare Instructor Course (AWIC). AWIC encompasses a range of academic activities and practical exercises that expose the candidates to complex scenarios, broadening and improving their skills; graduating humble, knowledgeable, approachable and expert instructors.
    AWIC22 integrates warfighting functions across a range of specialisations to develop expert air warfare instructors who will represent the next generation of tactical and integrated warfare experts across the air combat spectrum.
    No. 1 Squadron deployed F/A-18F Super Hornets from RAAF Base Amberley to RAAF Base Darwin for this exercise, providing Pilots and Weapons Systems Officers on the Fighter Combat Instructor (FCI) Course with the opportunity to work with a range of other Air Force capabilities, plan and execute missions, and complete their training under AWIC.

    I was at Avalon Air Show one year, just before Australia got the super hornet I think.... There was some impressive flying on display from F15's and Super Hornets..... Then came the Aussie's turn, in his bog standard, non "super" Hornet..... And he absolutely tore the bags out of it... Best display I've ever seen to this day... Didn't matter that he couldn't do the cobra shit, he ripped it up, balls to the wall, like Summernats.

    They seem terrifyingly close to the ground in some of those maneuvers, especially when the aircraft is rolled onto its side. Just raw power holding them in the sky. Does anyone have any idea what sort of minimum height they would be flying at? Is it standard proceedure to release to infrared missile decoys when rolling away like that or only when being targeted?

    What a joke, these can't fly outside of Australia except from carriers, if they flew to say Solomon islands to intercept they'd have about 5 minutes loitering time they'd have to return straight home.. Australia doesn't even have one carrier!!

    • @RobertLewis-el9ub
      @RobertLewis-el9ub Před 2 lety +8

      They showed the fuel tanker aircraft in the video. Depending on how many times you want to refuel determines the flight radius (pilot fatigue aside). So being conservative - radius from Australia out as far as Indonesian and PNG airspace - no problem. Far in excess of a carrier group airwing - who have very limited tanking capability, the advantage of a carrier is surprise if it remains undetected. Australia has treaty access to airfields across most of SE Asia if needed (Singapore/Malaysia/Guam/Japan).
