I know this video is a few years old but you did a great job. For new viewers like me I have a couple of suggestions as I used to build leather car seats: cut pie slices out of the raw shape as you go. staple 4-6 or 8 sides then cut. this will eliminate the excessive wrinkling you are getting and make the job much easier on you and faster. Also, after you have finished stapling the vinyl or leather, there's a good chance you will still have wrinkles or small pleats. This can not be helped but you can remove them. Using a heat gun or a good hair dryer, slowly work the wrinkles out. using your hands to smooth out the remaining wrinkles. Take it slow! You don't want to melt or burn the material! It will be hot to the touch so you may want to use simple work gloves. Cotton gloves with no rubber gripping on them will work to protect you from the heat or mechanic gloves. Good luck on future projects!
Thank you. This was helpful.
i find it helpful to make cuts in fabric/vinyl, it is gives it more ease, like making rays on a sun, then apply to round form
I'll let you know how the "rays of the sun" turns out when I get done .
I'm glad I found this video first from the sounds of it. I dont think I need to see anything else. Appreciate you taking the time to do this and show the rest of us. No need to over-professionalize anything. Just a normal guy trying to do a little more than normal stuff. Thanks again!
Thank you!
😊 ☝☝☝ Totally agree with the above comment. 40 yrs since I upholstered a stool and needed a refresher.. this did the job and covered all I needed. Thanks.
Yes! A good effort. But some of his staples are too close to the edge. He will have trouble when putting the bottom on.
Thank you I've been struggling with this all night. Gave up, now I am watching your video. I'll start again tomorrow morning! My wife hasn't been happy with the way I tried to do it.
Good job, I follow the instructions and mine came out decent.
Excellent tutorial by far the very best! I just started reupholstering a barstool and having great difficulties with wrinkles until I found your video it’s coming out great now 😊 Thank you so much for sharing
I had done one sometime back. I am glad I viewed this for my second one. Clear, straight forward , just the right tools and well spoken. Kudos and thanks.
We are glad to have found your video! My wife and I are about to start on 5 of our kitchen barstools. Thank you for taking the time and making this video.
Great job!! You're absolutely right on all accounts, regarding other videos for recovering a 'round stool' thanks!!
Great step-by-step instructions! Thank you!
Thanks Johnny! This “how to” video really came in handy. My husband, and I got our project done in 3 hours! Very helpful tutorial. Thank you.
this project done only for 10 mins with lamination ma'm this is so easy work thank you
Was in the garage trying to put vinyl on a stool and said, "Forget this, I need help" and here you are! Great job, thanks so much for uploading this!
Great tutorial! Helped me a lot with a project I’m working on. Thank you 🙂
Thanks for a great video. Very clear and easy to follow. Visual clarity was good also. I appreciate the camera not bouncing around like so many you tubers do. I would not have known where to start but now I have the information i need. Good work!
Nice thx sooooo much. It looks like a vanilla wafer. It's perfect
This looks much more informative than other videos I've seem. Very helpful. I have 3 stools I want to cover. After seeing this I feel better about trying this task. Thank you for making the video!
This helped a lot in my DIY re-upholstery for the kitchen chairs, huge thanks!
A perfectionist's life is so hard.
Very insightful, much as how I thought to do it as well with the initial anchor staples and then shaping as you do. Thanks a lot for this clear, well filmed instructional!
Love the remarks on other videos. I come to CZcams to look for videos on something a normal person wouldn't ordinarily come up with, who creates a tutorial for instructions anybody will naturally do anyway.
Thank you. I’ve watched more of these videos than I care to mention. Couldn’t believe the finished seat of the other “crafters” so kept looking and thankfully found yours. The stool I’m recovering is from my dads shop and had tacks vs staples. I’d like to keep it vintage with tacks but the staple option is very tempting. None the less, I feel I have the confidence to end up with a quality finished product. Thank you.
Good luck on your recovery. Hope your feeling better!
This was perfect to me . You are definitely a perfectionist. 😂 but great job
I was thinking the same thing. It looks really nice.
Thank you for taking the time to show us! I just upholstered a stool and not too happy with the wrinkles. Can’t wait to do the other three the way you showed us.
When upholstering with vinyl, a heat gun will always make the finished work smooth. I'm an upholsterer by trade
You did a fine job! It is way better then what I’ve seen and the end result looks very good. Thank for sharing!
Yes, absolutely 100% better than other content I've seen on CZcams on this subject. Thank you for this!
Thanks alot! I have spent an hour watching videos after two failed attempts to get it done without wrinkles before I came across this one.. Great job at being so thorough!!
Thank you for watching!
@@Johnnysshop Epic, brother Johnny. You do good work. Rock on, brother.
Thank you for this tutorial! My stools turned out looking brand new and professionally reupholstered.
thanks for the video! About to tackle my own set of 4 barstools with a heavy vinyl and needed some guidance on the pulling and stretching process with such a thick fabric.
This video has been really useful and inspired me to make a leather arm rest edge to the bar in my magical man cave.
havent even watched the video yet but LOVE that you called out the other HORRIBLE videos. ALFA MALE RIGHT HERE.
I appreciate your “tricks!” I have a stool to cover as we speak! I love the pull and then slant idea. I’m going to try it!
I saw the video of the lady with goodwill stools and oil cloth! Looks like crap! Yours was by far the best!
Amazing results. Best I’ve seen so far since I have started looking.
Thank you for posting and sharing! My bar stool covers are vinyl and my cats’ back claws have destroyed them. 🤦♀️ I’ve purchased two different new materials to see which one holds up better to the daily shenanigans! My stools are trapezoid in shape, but with your instructions, I think I’ll be able to do this!
Thats really good mate. I'm sitting on an uncomfortable stool now that's how I came across your video and will use it as a guide to cushion mine. Thank you
Thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial video. It was very helpful. Great tips!
You have the best video for rounded corners, all the others I looked at they leave the corners folded which don't look that great. Thanks for the information.
Thanks I found it helpful for my present project
Wayyyy better than what I’ve seen out on youtube. Thank you for this video!!!
So well done 🎉
Great video just what i needed to see to recover my round bar-stools for outside use.
Excellent video. Thank you for the precision of your work🏆
Great job.
It was very helpful.
You have great common sense! You are right...other videos are just drivel compared to yours. Thank you for taking the time to make this one. It is appreciated! 😀
Thank you. Your video was very helpful!
Perfect video mine came out pretty good for my first time
Great video. Very well done. Thanks for the help.
Great job on this video! Thank you!
Very good info and technique
I just want to say thanks for this video. It helped me big time because I was struggling with my project. We even have the same material.👍
Thank you for the education. You answer all of questions for my next job.
great practical step by step. I wish I had watched this. I watched others do square seats. I too like perfection and I am disappointed with my results but my wife is happy. I see why the experienced craftsmen start with tacks since you invariably have to remove some and do over to get best results.
This is excellent. Thank you.
I was in the process of recovering my bar stools with greater than less success and much frustration. Jumped online and found your video, man what a lifesaver. Great instructions, worked fantastic for me and I thank you very much. I noticed a comment by someone who suggested to also use a heat gun, and wish I would have also checked out the comments before I went back at it, a heat gun would have been the icing on the cake. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
Nice work. Thank you.
i THINK IT LOOKS PERFECT!
Very helpful and nice to watch.
Thanks for this I'm fixing some old stools in my dad's kitchen and painting the room while he's away for the week.
Wonderful job
Thanks for the video. This helped me as well.
Thank you for a great entertaining and informative video, some great tips
Sam
Hi Johnny! I just stripped the previous fabric from the seat cushions before I looked for videos on reupholstery. A couple tips: 1. put the staples in a container!!! 2. Cut off the seat cushion fabric top, in a circle near the edge; then cut the "ring" of fabric that's left; then use needle nose pliers to grab fabric and twist, twist, twist, pulling the staples up with the fabric; the fabric and many staples may come off in one go. Now I'll finish watching your video.
Looks beautiful
I agree with Bill's comment, this is an Excellent job you have done, better than most. I am actually attempting this on 3 bar stools today. I had a good idea of how to, but I checked some vids just to see if there were some pointers, obviously there are.
I had a feeling it was probably this easy, thanks for an easy to understand video.
Very well done. Based in reality. So helpful. Thanks!
Great job and if you wanted to you could get more of the wrinkles out once it’s been sat on for a while and moulded itself. Incidentally, the cover looks like a giant chocolate button 😋.
You needed to have a dacron batting around the foam to preserve the durability of the faux leather. Another reason is that the batting will provide a filler to the creased areas so as to eliminate those creases. You're doing good nevertheless. It will also provide a smoother, softer finish. Sorry, you may get offended with my suggestion, but you can ask any professional upholster installer.
Very good job… I will use it, thanks
This really really helped thank you
This has helped me so much I am using a very similar vinyl type faux leather for an ottoman that is round and your video has shown me the right way I did a stool before and it looked so bad 😂
Thanks so much for this video! I did one of my barstools before I watched this and it totally looked like crap. 😂 After watching, I was able to start over and they look great
Thank you for sharing this! I learned a lot!!
Great job and this is very helpful Thank you
Thank you very much, just follow your instructions, very helpful !
Thank you! I did a pretty good job on my bar stools. I wasn't perfect but you did a great job of teaching.
Thank you. You make it look easy.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Great job, and thank you for the upload!
I think this video was very helpful
Thank you. Well done!
Great job!!!! I think I can do it now! Thank you so much, you made it look possible
Thanks for your video. I have an airless stapler and that worked great on a little kids table I reupholstered yesterday. Maybe I should video my DIY work too. Thanks bud
Good job and explanations.
Thank you this was very helpful
Good vid... just a little tip. They make pliers that have a crescent shaped head. You grab the material and rock the pliers back on the hard substrate. This allows you to pull with incredible strength. I work with soaked leather so the chances of a rip are minimal but they definitely reduce wrinkles!
Great video! thanks for posting!
Liked, thanks. You can use a hair dryer to "mold" the vinyl.
My mother used an old iron with a wet cloth to remove the folds...
This was very helpful! Thanks so much for posting this!
GREAT WORK
Great Video helped me get my barstool near perfect!
Thank you!! I told my daughter I would redo these stools we found from the thrift store, and I lie awake at night trying for the life of me to figure out how to do this without it looking a hot mess! Hahahaha I cannot thank you enough!!
First world problems
Great job !!!
Very clear, thank you
After chatting with a professional he also gave the tip to leave your fabric sitting out in the sun for awhile before you get started so it has some stretch.
Thanks for the help!
Great job! Thanks
Thanks! Great video
THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS WAS SO HELPFUL AND MY SEATS LOOKS AWESOME! GOD BLESS!❤️
I agree with you 100%. I was frustrated with most of those videos which have a very bad end result. I too, am a perfectionist. Your tutorial was very helpful. Thanks.
