thank you beth :D yeah, i get that, some of the stuff would've bothered me a year ago as well.
I just both the same sketchbook from Aliexpress just hot press paper version. I love it. I painted very soft human face in probably 15 wet-in-wet color layers with drying in between, and the paper performed superbly. With so many water layers even Arches or Fabriano will start to show signs of fatigue. This paper did not. It does look like having very nice sizing in it.
Tip:
If you use fiber paste, watercolor ground, cold press ground, gel meduim etc. on each signature. Then the problem of bleeding through the holes disappears.
By putting a tiny bit on a tooth pick or remove the cotton bud and use the tip of the qtip stick to dab the stitches and seal the holes.
Problem solved.

This look very similar to my seamiart cotton sketchbook and your comments very similar to what I noticed about mine. I love my sketchbook it's very fun for warmups, swatching and creating small pieces. I loved your painting it turned out so cute and fun to look at 😍

I like your brick wall and cute characters! Don't apologize for having fun in your sketchbook, that's what it's for! It looks like a dragon inside dragon fire. Joyce's mother violet looks similar to DS Rose of Ultramarine but bolder. I like it!

Thank you for the review. I don't mind having 2 different textures in the same sketchbook, as long as the spreads are uniform. They should have folded the sheets alternately in an opposite direction within each signature. This would give all spreads the same texture on the left and right pages. So I guess these sketchbooks are not for me.

@@keepyourshoesathedoor i've never seen someone talk about sizing specifically. however, i know Millford (same company as saunders waterford) is one of the heavy-sized papers. i dont think companies advertise soft-sized papers because no one would buy them lol
I really want one of these. I used to bu a block a block of this paper. I really liked it for gouache. But I can't get it's anymore, and I'm way too impatient for ali express. Maybe I'll try it next time I treat myself. 😊

Arches watercolor paper also has a rougher side for their cp paper. The smoother side is the front
is that their pads or blocks? because i've tried Arches CP, i bought a single imperial size sheet and both sizes were textured the same.

I was hesitant to buy this since i seen a lot of reviews said not worth the upgrade or just get another brand if you want a 100% cotton, while I’m fine with cotton or not ( hahnemuhle britannia is my fav for celulose paper ) texture definitely plays into it as well, so if each page is a different texture i probably will not get it
same here. i used to be soooo bothered by different textures on one spread. arteza is like that too 😓

Thank you for the review. I just stumbled upon this on Ali and wondered if this one is nice. I am bummed (and expected) that it's not literally 100% cotton like Baohong. I wonder does the water seep through instantly and smoothly like an actual cotton paper? How many glazes can it handle and would the paints be removed if you layer over them? This book may look like one of those fun practice books but I like quality.
no, water didn’t seep through instantly. if that were the case, that means there is no sizing. this one has SOME sizing but not as much as standard watercolor paper. i did not test how many glazes it can handle. would paint be removed if u layer, that’s hard to say as it also depends on what pigment you’re painting with.
Thanks for the splendid review. I saw the Potentate sketchbook and was contemplating whether to buy or not. I guess I have come to a conclusion after watching your video. I will buy one solely for practice, swatching, small projects etc., but I'll have a better quality paper (on stand by) for more 'serious' work. 🤭

@@MrsBarnabas Yes, that THANKS button is the one i'm talking about. CZcams calls it Super Thanks. I don't see any red hearts though. Just a regular heart with a dollar sign inside. If people want to 'support/donate' during livestreams, in the live chat bar, they call it Super Chat. I know, all this terminology is so unnecessary.

your testing is so much prettier than mine! I just splatter paint everywhere and make messes! Thank you for the review, I am tempted because I need a new sketchbook for just playing around in, I wish all the pages were that rougher texture though, love paper that is super textured.

I've never ordered from Aliexpress. Do they combine shipping from the same seller or is that just not a thing?
im not sure if one seller can have multiple shops. but if you’re buying from the same shop, i think it’s automatically combined. i dont quite remember as i havent ordered from aliexpress in a long while 😅

i bought mine on taobao. i couldn't find 16x16 on aliexpress so maybe no sellers are selling those or the 12x12 might be a newer version. i dont know. i just tried to find the ones closest to it.
