    I couldn't agree more... don't mix commercial photography pricing with consumer photography pricing. Happy New Year !!! Amazing as always

    THAKS SO MUCH Joanie... I know every market in every country is different, but there is this new generation of toddlers with iPhones offering images to restaurants and food trucks and any other small restaurant for cheap prices (below 500 for sure) in cash paying right there once they sent them the pictures via whatssap, with no post processing at all with the excuse of showing the food in an "Organic way" (I hate that term by the way) with sauces dripping out of the plate for the sake of being Organic... and that is hurting our market... the market of Professional Product and Food Photographers.

      Such a great point and definitely a sentiment a lot of photographers hold. My two cents though is if a client really wants a cheap price they can find it easily, and they're not going to be a client for me. Just like I can find cheap shoes, I can also find expensive ones. The clients who want quality service, who need business problems solved through images, who have a lot of stake and money invested in ad campaigns / packaging / content and want it done right and know i'm not just there taking pictures but an integral part of the success of their marketing / advertising / product launch, etc...are willing to pay premium rates. So, for the cheap photogs, more power to 'em. There's enough opportunity out there at all price points. For me I'd rather charge higher rates so I can afford to do less jobs and fully invest my best work and time and energy into the clients who value what I do. And much of that is communicated in the way I market my business and the way I communicate with clients through the sales process. Don't let the cheap photographers distract you. There's plenty of opportunity out there for us all!

      The key here is also understanding the clear needs of the clients. Not all businesses need top of the line professional photography, and sometimes it might even be a bad investment to throw money at a problem that could be solved at a lower price for them. Is your 2000$ fee gonna bring in 10x the return of the 200$ iPhone guy? To some clients the 200$ AND the 2000$ is just TOO LOW for what they need and they wouldn't consider either. That's why it's important to talk to these potential clients and see what their goals are, and realize that you might not be the right fit for them and that's OK.

    Joanie, I love your videos, old ones as well as the new ones. I hope you never stop keep making them, as I get a lot of information. I have a goal to start up my own product photography business (which I will achieve for certain) and will definitely use the knowledge that you share through these videos.

    We love a funky shirt and some helpful information! This is exactly what I needed to hear for the new year. I think it is so important to recognize our worth and I will definitely be startting in 2023!

    All great points! I'd also add that expenses are just as important as time. Basic things like paying for equipment upgrades, insurance, an accountant, etc. all need to be covered as well.

    My 1st commercial shoot, the client was shocked there was a shoot fee and licensing fee. I met with the owner and his Project Mgr, she had experience doing commercial work and when I said the range, he was shocked and she said yup, thats the range. I wanted a longer term relationship with them as I liked their product. I offered a 6 shoot package that I severely reduced my licensing fees in exchange for more jobs. He agreed to it.

    Great video. We have a small cleaning business. And the same principal applies to us as well. Establishing the correct clients is key. Making the transition to full time commercial photography is our goal. Thank you for your videos.

    Great advice. The one thing I've found over the years is many people undervalue their time and work, and quote from a fear-based place. As a manufacturer and product developer for 25+ years, I've learned when I base my prices on time and also value, the companies who are a good fit rarely balk and everyone wins.

    Great video! I HATED talking about money. I am so guilty of thinking they are money conscious. When I was photographing weddings, I got lied to a lot.....oh we don't have much money. I took the gig for $900....UGH! We get to one wedding and there are Lamborghinis and Ferraris in the lot. Yeah whatever. LIARS. Look out for yourself!

    I’m shooting for a restaurant that wants to do over 300 items and I’m lost on how to price. Even $7k seems low for that much work. They also think we can do it all in one day. Desperate for help on pricing this.

    • @TheBiteShot
      @TheBiteShot  Před 2 měsíci

      Definitely can't shoot 300 in a day 😬 Depending on the types of dishes, intentions for the images and team I have, I can do anywhere from 10 to 30 in a restaurant shoot in one day. If you wanna talk details, feel free to drop us a line in the community and we can talk through it with ya: community.thebiteshot.com
