This is an amazing arrangement! My only critique is that your emphasis on certain syllables take away from the the performance because the African Americans did not pronounce word that way. If you want to portray their image, you need to not make it sound so polished, more relaxed and slurred is more ideal. But great overall!

This is really really good, but rushed a lot in my opinion. If/when you perform it again, try slowing it down a few clicks. Aside from the tempo, it was really good! Power to the women's choir. I don't have one of those where I am!
Megan Bonti my chorus performed this as well and it’s incredibly difficult to stay on tempo with the percussion. We weren’t entirely sure what was making us speed up, but we did speed up a lot.
I didn't hear an alto 2 part? I would still add the alto 2 even if the performers can't sing the lower notes and just have them join the other part for the very low notes.
It's there, faint, but audible. It's an F note, so low, even for a contralto - or Alto 2. Suggest you use headphones. For comparison, view and listen to the Gimnazija Kranj Girls Choir's rendering of this song. Their pitch is slightly lower, but some of the girls still manage the bottom note. Impressive.
You are assuming perfect mic placement that would reveal optimal balancing of parts. Give these young women a break - they are singing their hearts out and you are fussing about not hearing a part????
Riley Becca it’s because the first time they sing (second soprano) is supposed to be louder. They also might not have many alto 2 in this song because it is considered a bass line. I can barely hear it.
the first time i heard this song was watching lead belly the movie back around 82 i think. Great movie it really turned me on to Lead Belly. While this is a very good performance, it seems to lack soul.

There’s not Alto 2 part, but the alto part can be a bit rough if you’re not used to singing that low
