Different from Tony, Howard immigrated to US at the very young age, 2, from Vietnam. Eventually, he teamed up with Tony for the US team to win the 2005 WC.
TG is my top favorite men double player. Smash speed doesn't make u a great MD player. TG is a play maker, he can turn a defensive position into an offensive position. He is like wayne gretzy of hockey even tho wayne doesn't have the fastest slap speed.
Looking at this final.....so what if USA has won this? Nothing has changed after all these years.. Badminton remained a shit sport in USA and their tournament could not even get upgraded from even Grand Prix to Gold standard. Looks like Tony Gunawan's migration did not add any value to American badminton after all these years. Wasted.
Things have changed since 2005, maybe not at the professional level, but certainly the game has grown modestly. At least in California. Don't know about elsewhere. More clubs, more players. Probably due to continued Asian migration into the area, as opposed to this match of course. However things have changed.
We Should Be Grateful Then (For Now) USA Were Already So Good With Track & Field, Swimming (In Which Offer Lots Of Medals), Artistic Gymnastic, Tennis, Etc (And They Have The Most Gold Medals In The Olympic History, Definitely A Sport’s Powerhouse) We Should Be Grateful That They Don’t Pay Much Attention On Badminton
