Want a great opening move for your massage, and a way to access the back of the head and neck while the client is supine? Give this technique a try!
This one sounds simple, but it can take some practice to get the movements flowing. It goes like this: Press the right shoulder inferiorly with your right hand while scooping up into the left side of the neck with your left hand. Reverse directions, pressing with your left while you scoop with your right. Alternate these movements, starting small and exaggerating as you proceed. This will slowly convince the nervous system that it's safe to allow the head and neck to move, all while giving a great stretch down into the shoulders.
Some tips: Keep the palmar surfaces of your hands close to the client's skin as you press and scoop. If you can keep your skin travelling along their skin, it will help this feel like a natural rock instead of a "press, press, press" sensation. Let this movement come from your hips, allowing your torso to rock from side to side. This can also feel great without any oil at all, allowing yourself to move much more slowly and play with moving the fascia rather than doing much travelling across the skin.

do you need both quickbooks plus the self employed for the average RMT?
The self-employed package is self-contained, so if you already have a version of quickbooks that works for you, this will likely have some redundant features. I like QB self-employed because it guides me through categorizing all of my purchases (and setting up rules to do so automatically), and it will track your mileage via an app. It's cool, but not necessarily a big step up if you already have a system that works.
Is this version suitable for Australian tax record-keeping requirements?
I’ve been a MT for 11+ years and I have to say, you’re an excellent therapist.
I am a student and have a practice lab today. I’m gonna try incorporating this into my ending head rest. Thank you so much!!!
Hello I'm PILIPINO massage therapy..3 years thank you for sharing this vedio
I like this im going to try it out with my next appointments! Thank youuu 🤩
Great..so glad your back..your a great teacher..my clients love me...I tell them "you can thank Ian"...lol..can you do a video on geriatric massage...I get a lot of older people over 60, who has trouble turning over, staying prone too long or even with hardware in them.
That's so kind, Suzie! And I'll give that some thought and see what I can come up with 🙂
@@MassageSloth oh..thank you
Over 60? I have not thought of myself as geriatric lol
@@michaelsurabian7523 lol....sorry 😔😔
suzie Q lol. It’s all good! Made me chuckle. 😉
Great technique, I’ve just started my first job after getting my license and have been searching for more shoulder techniques, thank you!
Love the beautiful style and techniques you use! Thanks for the videos!
I like doing this at the end of my routine. Make my clients feel more relaxed and loose from the neck . Thanks for sharing! Great to see you back Ian!!
Looks super smooth! Thank you Ian🙏
i cannot wait to try this!
I enjoy your video's very much! I watch them, not necessarily from a 'massage' perspective, but to relax by listening to your voice and seeing you perform the massaging. It works very soothing, like some kind of unintended ASMR, specially when I cannot sleep. Thanks a lot, and keep them coming!!
I find you an amazing massage therapist❣️thank you so much for your inspirational tools✋🏻🤚🏻
Love this!!
Very nice technique thanks to you 😁🤓👍all my clients loves it
I love this! Very comprehensive:)
This looks so relaxing & good! I had forgotten this move so thanks for the reminder!
Aw shucks, thanks Maria 😊
love this technique :)
I love this technique. And with the forearms close to the neck and head they can give subtle clues for the client to let go of their head, they know they forearms are their to "catch" them when they relax into the motions.
love your videos, i would enjoy seeing the massage moves on some of are larger clients 👌🏾
Nice thank you so much....
Good move
Awesome
Nice massage,
thank god your back😍
plz i have a question
in this year i'm trying to learn how to do massage by your videos
if there's any free websites could help me or anything else could you help me
I tried this before I saw this video and I felt like I was possibly scrubbing on the head of the humerus uncomfortably :/ thank you for making these videos
Ian you have such wonderful "Gumby" fingers!❤ I will try to adapt this technique to my range-ability. I love all your videos- each and every one.
I always forget that it might be wise to do a demonstration where I don't bend my knuckles 75 degrees backwards 😅 Thanks for the kind words, Vivian!
Massage Sloth, what books do you recommend for leaning massage techniques for begginers and advanced??
I seem to miss some of your finger mobility. Are you very flexible in your hands?
I'm a massage therapy student and I graduate hopefully in October. I have about 80 massages in (practice, not including in class trades). I'm finding that repetitive strokes in this position over the pectoralis major, around the deltoid, up the traps, and up the cervical spine is making my wrists super sore. I'm sure it's not proper body mechanics, can you give me some insight in this?
I am qualified Chinese Medicine Practitioner in UK. I work in one of high street Chinese Medicine shop as acupuncture and tuina prectitioner. Can I apply the massage techniques learnt from your video???
I would check your local laws. I know in my region, you cannot practice massage whatsoever unless you are a licensed massage therapist or a reflexologist and specifically for the feet and leg. That’s it.
Nice money maker move. I love all of your videos
I applied this at work today! Client melted and asked for another 5 min. Thank you Ian👍🏾
That's awesome! 🤗
I think the key is working nice and slow
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🙏
Those distal phalanges though! Mine just to not do that Ian!
😅 I really need to make an update to this to discuss strategies for people who aren't made of rubber
This requires a lot of finger extension I believe. You have more finger extension than I have.
Based on how you roll your sleeves, are you ex-military?
Nope, I learned that method from Tom Welling on Smallville. Man, that's a weird thing to just come out and admit.
Hi haha
Great video. Question how do I marry you
mmmmm.....delicious
