Video tutorial on how to whitewash a brick fireplace and give it that distressed finish; a very shabby chic finish. Very light, painted brick for a more neutral tone.
I know it's been 6 years since you posted this video, but it is exactly what I was looking for. You did an awesome job explaining the process and the finished brick is beautiful. Great job!
My sister and I just finished using your instruction to paint her fireplace brick. This was phenomenal instruction and the finished product was awesome. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
Really don't understand why you get so many dislikes. Your video says "How to WHITEWASH BRICK". And thats what you show us. Thank you for sharing your know how.
Dot, there will always be people who don't like something you do =) It fits with our home, and that's all that matters! Thanks for watching and your kind words!
I cant believe how many dislikes there are for this video. Great tutorial and the brick looks fantastic. Exactly what i was looking for. Thank you and well done.
Awesome job! Im about to do my parents "outdated pink and blah orange" 1970s style brick fireplace this week. Thank you so much for your video! Looks easy and fun, so wish me luck
Just did this and it looks awesome! Thanks for the helpful video. I want to add not to use a brightly colored rag as the color will rub off. Luckily I noticed right away!
I think this is so creative and very pretty. I really love the idea of putting your own touches on the house that you'll live in with your family. I would be scared to mess up the brick but I love it.
Looks awesome! I was thinking about doing this, or going full white on mine too ^_^ don't worry about the haters, everyone is a "professional designer" on the internet lol
Hi it’s beautiful want to do this to mine. Did you have to seal the Buick’s when it was done? Never saw any one do that but the guy at Paint store told me I needed too, not sure if he’s trying to sell me more things thank you
Thanks - I was looking for a simple tutorial to whitewash for a vintage look and this was spot on. Not sure what the Negative Nellies were looking for.
oh, that looks great. i want to try it with one of my interior walls, but my bricks are quite lights (from the 70s). if i do this style, but don't like it in the end, will i be able to render over using the same colour but with a more opaque look? thanks for the painting tips.
I don't understand all the "the brick looked better before comments". This is a video for people who don't like or are sick of that regular brick look...that is why we searched for this video!! All the negative comments...if you don't like white wash...why are you even looking at this video???
"WHITEWASH" That is what the video shows and is beautiful! If you want your fireplace painted just white then by all means do that. If you like bricks to look like brick do not watch these types of videos. But can we please stop bringing people down who share their skills. It looks amazing and thank you for sharing.
So true Adam! I can't stand ppl who do this! I'm tired of my old brick fire place, so I deliberately looked up how to white wash a brick fire place. She's done exactly what I was looking for.
Could I use this method on the exterior brick? Most DIY for white washing exterior is sooooooo complicated. This is simple and something I could do solo. I live in a very humid area. I wonder if that makes a difference also?
dampening it is not necessary and will interfere with what you're wiping off; your sponge will get full of paint and you'll have to rinse it out, therefore possibly making your wipe inconsistent. I would recommend getting a bunch of old rags and throwing them away after they get filled with paint.
I thought the after effect looks much better. Usually being a Mason i like to see brick un painted but in this case the wall looks much better after being white washed. Thank you for the tips
Jaclyn Colville Thank you!! Most people gawk at painting brick, but it was horribly outdated and didn't fit the design of our home. Thanks for the kind words =)
Very tasteful finished product. I like the all-white decor. I have a question... your brickwork looked very shiny in the video. Was it finished or coated with anything before you painted it, or was it cleaned before painting? Thank you for sharing.
This looks awesome! Your step by step is super helpful. May I ask where you got the white Moose? I'm looking for a white Buck to place over my fireplace once it's finished.
check a few swatches that are your favorite in the store and match them to your home. we chose something in the gray family. there are tons of whites out there =)
Fyi, a little paint thinner on a rag when dry can be used to remove some of the paint if it's too white or to differentiate random bricks rather than trying to do it when it's wet and more difficult
did you only do the one coat or 2 coats to get your finished look? was there any sealant applied once the white was dried? Your finished project looks great!
jrvanhooser I have found that since bricks are porous and each type of brick can vary, so you may need more than one coat on the bricks. Depends on your look that you are trying to achieve. I have done this several times and each time it's a little different.
I've been painting for 10 years professionally and I will be doing this for the first time this week. Your video was very simple and awesome. And the brick looks great, thank you for sharing
If you hammer a nail through the inner rim of the can, the paint that is trapped in the inner rim after you pour it out into the plastic bucket will flow back into the paint can naturally.
That's my thoughts too. There is no going back but it's nice to have a change. I am thinking of white washing my brick fireplace but it's the no turning back part that keeps me from doing it. This video might convince me . The fire place looks awesome. Great job!!!
Police made darkness run Y it' was like she was in trouble for doing something wrong and thats why I didn't leave her as it didn't make sense if everyone was after me. As she did a “service” to her country
You didn't talk about preparing the surface before the paint goes on... That's important. Also... there must be a right and a wrong kind of brush to use. These are important details.
Will any water based interior paint that is okay with masonry work...? What do you know about something called "Milk Paint" and what are the pros and cons of that...? Hurry... I have to get my job done by next week...!!!
I know it's been 6 years since you posted this video, but it is exactly what I was looking for. You did an awesome job explaining the process and the finished brick is beautiful. Great job!
Appreciate the feedback =)
My sister and I just finished using your instruction to paint her fireplace brick. This was phenomenal instruction and the finished product was awesome. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
My wife and I found this to be very helpful and much easier than others were suggesting. We LOVE the way it turned out in ours! Thanks and God bless!

Dot Matrix exactly.. why even come to this video of they want boring original brick look
I was thinking the same thing, what the hell? Half down votes? Trolls...
Good point! Some folks just have no sense of logic. Smh
Maybe because she mixes the water and paint when you’re supposed to keep it separate?
I love love this look. Used your video to help my husband & I understand how to whitewash our fireplace and the results are amazing! Thanks so much
I cant believe how many dislikes there are for this video. Great tutorial and the brick looks fantastic. Exactly what i was looking for. Thank you and well done.
My thoughts exactly! Just don't watch it or move on =) Thanks for the love!
Thank you for the simple but helpful video! This is exactly what I was searching for.
I followed your video this weekend and we did out fireplace. It looks amazing! Thank you so much!!
That's wonderful to hear Melissa!! We absolutely love ours and get compliments on it often!
Beautiful! This exact what I was looking for :) thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the great tips... I'm about to do the same on our stone fireplace. Ignore the rude comments... you did a great job!
read this comment while taking a shit
Simple and helpful. Thanks!!!

Thankyou I like your tutorial the best . You make it look easy .
10years later and your still Working your magic🎉😂
Thanks - I was looking for a simple tutorial to whitewash for a vintage look and this was spot on. Not sure what the Negative Nellies were looking for.
This ended up looking really cool. Me and my family are moving soon so this will be very helpful when we redo the fireplace! ^_^
Great job lady. came out cool
That's a great stove!

I suggest testing it on a single brick or so that's the same or like before you start.
It Looks Nice ●♡●
Thanks for sharing your techniques
on how you achieved "White Washed" bricks.
Great job!

Adam William haha. Exactly!

Looks really nice.
Could I use this method on the exterior brick? Most DIY for white washing exterior is sooooooo complicated. This is simple and something I could do solo. I live in a very humid area. I wonder if that makes a difference also?
If you have air conditioning, your home shouldn't be too humid indoors. I dont see why it would make a difference. IMO
How many coats did you put on the brick?
I love it. I'll try it in my kitchen I just have a narrow chimney going up.
What was your ratio with paint to water? And did u wash the brink with anything before u started painting?
Great job.keep it up
Could I use a damp sponge instead of the rag? or does it have to be a dry?
dampening it is not necessary and will interfere with what you're wiping off; your sponge will get full of paint and you'll have to rinse it out, therefore possibly making your wipe inconsistent. I would recommend getting a bunch of old rags and throwing them away after they get filled with paint.
Thanks for the video! Old video, but I just did this and it turned out awesome!! Everyone comments on it.
I thought the after effect looks much better. Usually being a Mason i like to see brick un painted but in this case the wall looks much better after being white washed. Thank you for the tips
Beautiful job! I want to do this with white paint and also a gray!
That's a nice finish
The video is exactly what is says. Kudos for that....
I think the dislikes are because it doesn't look good.
Love love love the finished result! Great job:)
Jaclyn Colville Thank you!! Most people gawk at painting brick, but it was horribly outdated and didn't fit the design of our home. Thanks for the kind words =)
awesome. thank you
GREAT makeover!
Thanks for sharing! =)
Looks Great! Do you remember the tint color?
Very tasteful finished product. I like the all-white decor.
I have a question... your brickwork looked very shiny in the video. Was it finished or coated with anything before you painted it, or was it cleaned before painting?
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Debashis! It may have appeared shiny but it's actually quite mat. It was the finished coat. Used a satin finish.
This looks awesome! Your step by step is super helpful. May I ask where you got the white Moose? I'm looking for a white Buck to place over my fireplace once it's finished.
+Fernanda Forner Etsy!
is there any specific white color I should use?
check a few swatches that are your favorite in the store and match them to your home. we chose something in the gray family. there are tons of whites out there =)
I'm glad I seen your video before I did mine cause I don't like how it looks after it's finished
Hard to concentrate on the brick when Miss America is hosting the how to video. Okay, the finished product looks great.
Stunning! Great video. I'm doing mine soon. Do you think I can do a cream color instead of white?
+Michele Barbalet I'm sure that would look great!
Love this! What kind of painting. Water base or oil. Sorry I don't know much about this.
latex =) ask away, that's what we're here for!
Your finished project looks great!
i only used 1 coat. no sealant. looks great to this day!
Love it, thanks!
Appreciate the feedback 🙏
Awesome 👏
How many coats did you need to use for the finished product? My wife and I may try this. Thanks!
We used one coat =)
jrvanhooser I have found that since bricks are porous and each type of brick can vary, so you may need more than one coat on the bricks. Depends on your look that you are trying to achieve. I have done this several times and each time it's a little different.
What are you going to show us next, how to paint your tile shower....amazing craftsmanship!
About how much paint did you use before adding the water?
around 8 gallons or so
around 8 gallons or so
Do you use your fireplace? Does the smoke stain clean off?
Yes, we've used it often! With the insert, there is no smoke residue and haven;t had an issue.
Thanks Seal.
Did you clean and prime the fireplace first?
Nicole Lataif I didn't.
I've been painting for 10 years professionally and I will be doing this for the first time this week. Your video was very simple and awesome. And the brick looks great, thank you for sharing
Sergio Melgar appreciate your comment! good luck! we've had a ton on compliments on it when people enter our home.
can you come help me do mine?
Couldn't you use a thick roller to put on the paint, and wipe with a wet cloth?
donna wanna I guess you could. seems it would be a bit messier. i liked the control of a small space so it's evenly wiped.
If you hammer a nail through the inner rim of the can, the paint that is trapped in the inner rim after you pour it out into the plastic bucket will flow back into the paint can naturally.
Excellent tip! Appreciate the suggestion =)
Alguien buscaba un comentario en español aquí esta. Jajajaja muy buen trabajo chica.
I think it ended up great!
how long did it take you to do the whole thing?
jared huffman I'de say about 2 hours maybe. Not long at all. Used a lot of rags though. Have them handy.
ok thanks
How many coats did you do, just one? Sorry I don't have sound on my computer at the moment.
Yes, just one coat =)
Are you using water paint?
It is latex paint that I added additional water to before applying it.
@@JanGreenTreePhoto thank you
Rad !
Came for the tutorial. Stayed for the gorgeous woman.
best look will have one coat primer, and 2 coat finish paint best paint HP 2000 from general paint store
reversible or permanent?
Permanent
Mmmmmmmm...yeah, baby.
Never pour from the front of the can!
Please be respectful when sharing and commenting on this video. Thanks!
I was told that without masonry primer and masonry paint, this will peel off soon. How has it lasted for you?
it's been on there 5 years and looks like it did when i first put it on. I don't see how the paint will "peel" with brick being so porous.
Beautiful lady.
Looks nice, .. but Something tells me that 1) more water than paint 2) apply heavy , don't rub 3) apply 3 coats.
more water than paint if you want more brick to show through, and I only applied one coat.
Barry Pickens the cheaper paint will work just fine for a project like this. We just like the quality of a Benjamin Moore paint above the rest.
What color Benjamin Moore paint did you use?
Nope shown williams has the best paint. Endurance is great
yes ashley. used Benjamin Moore paint. Both Sherman Williams or Benjamin Moore are great products!
@@ashtiernan i'm not entirely sure. sorry.
I think this would look much better just painted white.
I agree. It almost looks half finished.
Never pour paint over the front label
beautifull girl
my type
your shorts are cute
this girl is smokin hot
Red brick timeless white will go out fast
What a gorgeous lady x
The brick looked great. Sadly there's no going back to it
***** Sadly indeed...I think the look she was going for is nicely achieved in those pics:
www.archiki.com/8-amazing-ways-decorate-brick-wall/
Jonock Actually it's pretty simple to remove. There's a company that makes a paint stripper kit for brick.
That's my thoughts too. There is no going back but it's nice to have a change. I am thinking of white washing my brick fireplace but it's the no turning back part that keeps me from doing it. This video might convince me . The fire place looks awesome. Great job!!!
why???
Why not? =)

Police made darkness run Y it' was like she was in trouble for doing something wrong and thats why I didn't leave her as it didn't make sense if everyone was after me. As she did a “service” to her country
I can make it myself. Just got instructions from WoodPrix website and I'm ready for do it :D
How to ruin your brick fireplace

Wtf
She ain't paint it her husband did
3:12 looks like shit.
Oh my...looked so much better before than after
It's all in the eye of the beholder =)
Charles you obviously have bad taste. Looks much better after .🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
