Opus Platinum is retailing for £199 at most online outlets, standard opus £159 (similar to the SM10 and MG4's)

There’s zero chance I would ever pay $400+ for a wedge. Although these wedges are $229 stock. That’s simply insanity. Maltby makes a really nice wedge and it’s $60. Takomo Skyforgers are great wedges and they are $90. I mean, people can buy what they want with their own money, but overall, golf equipment pricing is getting stupid. In my area, golf is getting more difficult to even play. Less courses per capita (due to the property owners selling the property to build homes). So competition is decreasing, which raises prices and getting a worse product. We have a public course over here that that wants $50 a round and when I lived in another area, nobody would ever pay that much for a course like that. It’s simply not a good course, condition-wise. I don’t see a good future for golf. You’re going to end up having membership courses and goat trails.

I agree 100% with you. I’ve been saying this since the boom after the pandemic! Prices for clubs, balls, and rounds are all outrageous!

Telling me new wedges have good spin is like saying new tires have good traction.

Is the price of new wedges going up across the industry? PXG Sugar Daddys are 300+ and now Callaway, too? More opportunity for the direct to consumer brands. Cheers.

IMO the Jaws wedges were the best of the main brands … but I had some Mizuno JPK wedges which cost £60 and were amazing.
I doubt anyone will notice the difference the platinum wedges make, but being able to try wedges out in a proper short game area is key to working out which feel best for you.

I am thinking when they called them "blue", it's more like when a gun barrel is "blued"....at least that's what it looked like. Cool concept and color....kinda pricey, but each to their own if they wanna spend that much on a wedge. Keep up the great content!

Looking to add one more wedge to set of Calloway ST Max irons that came with a 47 degree All wedge and a pitching wedge. Recommendations for Cleveland vs Calloway. Love the Pitching Wedge, AWedge, not so much.

No one pays retail price for anything, you can get the platinum for under £200, expensive but as James said depends on your circumstances, if i was changing my wedges would definitely give them a go. I currently play SM9’ they are great, grooves still work, end of next year will probably need to start looking, by then Callaway will have generation 2, and yes i will try them.

That wedge is black because it’s the regular Opus Black, not the Opus Platinum Blue…

used vokey for years and changed to the jaws... I find them much more playable. just don't know if the new wedges will make that much of a difference for the amateur.

Seems anything "Opus" is going to cost you. These Opus wedges are just a hair less than most bottles of Opus wine.

I don’t care how much ‘tech’ these have, I would never pay over £200 for an iron club. Do Callaway take us for idiots?

Terrible marketing from Callaway in my opinion, here we have 2 clubs guys identical design and really all for the same players but we have a "better" one and an "average" one................. If they did a cb version for eg fair enough different target audience but they are telling customers to pay £160 for a lesser version of they wedge...... just stupid.

They have to pay for the golf sponsorships. Perceived value through marketing. They are nice, but not worth the price. I almost wish all the reviewers just stop reviewing this brand.
