      But, thank you for an excellent review. I bought Affinity and hated it. I just went looking for it and it is magically gone, replaced with version 2 necessitating a new purchase, but given how much I hated it, and how much I enjoy Luminar products on my computer, this was an easy choice.

    Great, going on a trip to Europe with cameras and lenses. I’ll take my iPad Pro with Luminar and an external HD. for storing and backup. This way I can publish photos on the fly. Using Fuji cameras with their great jpg film sims so jpg not a problem. So gonna give it all a test run here at home to get the flow right. So fingers crossed.

    As for a subscription, I like knowing that I will continually be updated to the latest version.
    Every time I buy a perpetual license, I end up spending the same or more because I end up paying for the new versions because I want the new features.

    Yeah, to be honest this app already feels dead on arrival, since the mayor reason for me to switch to luminar neo was the local masking ( what is still for whatever reason not even slightly a thing in lightroom). The other k.o. criteria is no Raw files. I didnt bought an expensive dslm camera and invest all this time to edit properly just to limit myself to jpegs.
    Yes, this is all fixable in the future, but what i find almost insulting about that is the fact that they want to charge me again for a inferior version without including all my bought assets, luts and presets.
    I know this all maybe sounds a bit harsh, but i was waiting for a mobile version of Luminar for years and now get this.
    Im just very sad now.

    • @Centauri27
      @Centauri27 Před 3 měsíci

      I feel like you, though less harsh and not as let down. I wasn't hankering for an iPad version. I'll just stick with the built-in editor for my JPEGs and wait to see when they add masking & RAW support. It would have been nice if they included it for their loyal Luminar subscribers. Let's see if they offer a discount or anything.

    I thought that this would be the time that I could move to an iPad pro workflow only and free myself from Lightroom. Unfortunately not the case due to the shortcomings you mentioned, and a few others I noticed, such as no control over the export format or size. Hopefully this will all change soon. I assume that Skylum brought this out now due to the imminent release of new iPads.

  • @flairish12
    @flairish12 Před 3 měsíci +3

    • @user-dr2pf3wt8e
      @user-dr2pf3wt8e Před 3 měsíci

      @@nataliiastebliy I presume you’re not familiar with Adobe? They also have a pay to play licensing model. If you subscribe to it, you get a suite of applications that are cross platform. This is at no additional cost, as it’s part of the product suite and it adds value to their subscription. In fact, this model is most often employed as a suite. You’re correct, development costs for cross platform applications are higher. This is usually offset by the original monthly fee, or based on growing your subscriber base as you ‘value add’ to your product. I am surprised that this approach has been taken. Only time will tell if it was the right decision. Customers vote with their wallets.

  • @Centauri27
    @Centauri27 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Excellent review Anthony. Hats off to the Skylum team for some truly out-of-the-box GUI thinking! It looks like it'll be much easier to manipulate if you have a stylus. While I don't expect an iPad app to ever replace a desktop app, I'm going to hold off for now. Editing JPEGs doesn't interest me and I'll wait for them to add RAW support and masking. I did notice their (deliberate?) misspelling of "Monochrome". Are they trying to look Leica cool? 😉 Another important point to note is that the iPad version has no connection at all with Luminar Neo's catalog, though I think you can use their Luminar Share app (which everyone forgets) to shuttle images back and forth. Also, this app is not included in your Luminar subscription, so you have to pay extra for it.

Due to the way the app works it'll load the raw file and run a conversion initially so the iPad isn't crippled by trying to push around huge amounts of data. Looks like a great App. Asking subscribers to pay again seems crazy to me. Even Adobe steered clear of this. @@DigitalPhotoMentor So….What about Affinity Photo? If we are just looking at price. This is a fiercely competitive space. How many applications do you get in Adobe’s Photography suite? Is it about the cost, or the business model? Many people aren’t bothered about the end sum, but they do like to feel like they are getting value. It’s great you love what Luminar are doing, and I’ve also been a supporter from the beginning. This is about a business model and its success. As I said in a comment above, people vote with their wallets. This hasn’t proven to be a great business model in the past. People want to streamline subscription services, not add more. Maybe a “product suite” with a price increase would help. Comparing Adobe to Luminar is currently like comparing apples to oranges. My point was that they looked at this business model and voted against it in the end.
