    I've done this many times in the past you need hot water and you need some soap in the water. It also helps to submerge the entire guitar under the water so that when you clear the paint it doesn't clump. You should have done the entire body in the pink and the blue and then done the other half with wayless paint so that it was easier to clear the paint from the surface of the water

    • @LosTroopos
      @LosTroopos Před 3 lety +2

      I think a fair few rounds of masking tape would also do the trick. Submerge til you hit the tape then get it out to dry a week or two. After that tape the edge of the dipped side and then proceed to dip the other. As long as your tape isn't strong enough to damage the dip, i think that would work.

    • @mark5150ty
      @mark5150ty Před 3 lety +3

      @@LosTroopos yes you are correct I've done that also. But you have to use the expensive masking tape otherwise it comes off in the water.

    Honestly, if you fill in some of the spots by hand that the paint didnt adhere to, and do a fair bit of sanding, wet sanding, etc and hit it with a few coats of clear, or maybe even some thicker enamel that would hide some of the imperfections, it wouldnt look bad at all! I'd almost like to see it with the pink and purple swirl all over, or vice versa. Always cool and inspiring to see what youre getting yourself into. Take care man!

    I really like the way that the yellow finish underneath peeks through, especially on the yellow green side. I think it would have helped a bit to scuff up the finish so the paint would stick better.
    Never hydro dipped though, so I'm not sure about why it was drying so quickly on the water. Maybe that's just a spray can thing. I know people do it with other paints but I'm not sure either lol.

    Late gang here, I'm sure too many ppl have beat you up over this already Ryan, but using Magic Marble's paint droppers is *much* more effective than spraying spray paint on top of the water. @stevenheinje181 Před 3 lety

    i think a base coat of one of the colors, to seal the wood, would limit blisters. Could be clear too. I know the wood pulls water thats trapped by the paint. My guess on the clever hot water idea that it keeps film thinner and more even. good for less blisters and thick areas. The look is worth some trials. In any case cool conditions help avoid flaws. id dip in the shade an overcast day. I see wet sand and clear coat. so if you have a nice basecoat color, you sand into paint not wood.
    on the other hand maybe go for relic look with a dark red or blue with
    black and sand into wood

    Dude pro tip in the super sonic vid on tightening down the tremelo screws for tuning stability, Ive had this old affinity strat for probably 8 months and it goes out of tune so fast like after ten minutes of playing im in d standard lmao. I've always just assumed that the tuners were trash (which they are) but I've tightened down the tremelo screws as far as I could get them and after tuning it up and doing some aggressive playing for probably fifteen minutes all of the strings were still in tune. massive relief it just makes playing so much more enjoyable and you can just focus on getting better. Massive fan of the channel I hope that you are doing well.
    p.s.- would you consider buying older guitars and doing the same sort of playing demo and gutting and modding knda thing you do with the new ones. For example we are both fans of squier, it would be sick if you picked up an old squier stage master or show master strat, those things look the absolute business
