In addition I'd like to add that the '61 also pulled off quite a feat of simultaneously 'finishing out' the '58-'60 styling era, and ushering in the sensible '60s, in the one model year! I love how it retained the previous horizontal 'branching out' look in the back, but then that 'ridge' wrapped to the sides, becoming that beautiful jet-stream trail.

Even though mine was a Bisqayne I drove it for 4 years. The guy before me put a 327 in her with Vette heads 194. I put a 4 spd but kept blowing rear ends and center support bearings so in went a turbo 350. In 73 bought it for 100 bucks in 77 sold it for 400. I’m so nuts about this black 61 Impala I’m liable to do something stupid. Like get an equity line of credit.

The 1961 Chevy Impala is the best design and lines of all the 60s Impalas- beautiful automobile.
The 61 was by far the best looking Chevy ever made. I was 10 when my friend's dad bought one in red. Very cool car.
