The Night Does Not Belong to God is an awesome starter into their style. And when the time is right, complete the journey with Euclid!
I second this! ☝
I third this ☝🏻
I fourth this 😆🤭
i fourth this!!!! ☝️☝️☝️☝️
I fifth this 100%
My favorite song of theirs is Atlantic. It’s not just my favorite song by them either, but my favorite song of all time hands down. It’s one you have to be ready for.
Great taste here
Vessel is my favorite singer. His vocal range is God Tier... he's got a smooth, buttery baritone thats nice to wrap around you like a warm blanket, but his falsetto is ridiculous 😂. And he's so comfortable going between his chest voice and falsetto, its crazy 😄. I hope you do the deep dive with them. All their songs are different and keeps you on your toes. There's not one song by them that i dont like. Hopefully you'll enjoy them all too. Love the reaction! Glad you're going to do them weekly, gives me something to look forward to. I love watching people fall in love with this band like I did. Til next time ✌️
Worship ❤
OK here's the reason why you can't find the one. II (the drummer) moves the one A LOT. Most Sleep Token songs are actually in 4/4 contrary to popular opinion. BUT....... sometimes II is ahead of the one, next measure he's slightly behind the one. Do that in a pattern and it sounds like some creazy time signature but really it's just 4/4 with the one transposed over and over and over. It's actually super clever.
🙏🏾 ty for breaking it down -- this was def a first for me 🤯
@@HIM_066xMusicReactions The thing about II is this. He's 100% a gospel drummer. Think Tony Royster Jr., think Thomas Pridgen. All those linear patterns and improvisation fills. He's just playing gospel drumming over all the genres. That's the coolest part about this band. I don't care if he's doing metal double kick stuff, his hands are still all 100% gospel chops. You should check out his drumeo video if you want to geek out on it. He plays all their biggest tracks in that video. It's here on youtube. Just search for "Sleep Token Drumeo". It'll be the video that's like 20 minutes long or something like that. It's mostly performance so if you're into watching sick drummers. It's a fun time.
My dude is a MASTER of lagging the beat with the snare I love it so much!
He likes to use unresolved phrases or triplets in a 4/4 structure for example, feels janky in my bones but keeps you guessing the whole time!
My good sir, you have just scratched the surface. You really should go back and start from their first album, Sundowning, then move through This Place Will Become Your Tomb, then Take Me Back to Eden. You are in for an emotional roller coaster ride. Vessel's voice and their over all sound, as you've said, is an experience. Vessel has a way of just...make you FEEL...everything. So many songs will bring up so many emotions. Strap in and hold on tight. #Worship, my friend, #Worship.
It took me 8 listens to get used to this one. When I saw it live for the first time it was a real highlight with everyone singing along. I saw a video that was recorded by the promoter from the balcony and we were LOUD! Somehow, they can make it even better from the stage!
Always here to Worship! Continue this album, don't go back to the beginning first!
Their drummer is gummy good and takes inspiration from all over the place, including edm, prog and gospel :D He's been winning prices for his drumming since this album came out
"This guy can sing!" and "I have no idea what to expect!" - Okay, he did a cover of OutKast's Hey Ya. Go listen to that, but bring an extra pair of pants because I think you're gonna shit yours. And then just jump in and go from the beginning through the whole discography. It is so, so much better if you listen from the beginning in order. But if you really wanna get a taste of Vessel's talent, go listen to Hey Ya.
Loving these reactions, subscribed to watch Sleep Token blow you mind even more! 😄
The lore behind sleep token really is worth looking into. A very short and simple explanation is that vessel was visited by a deity named “sleep” and the two have a tumultuous relationship. Vessel offers songs as offering or “tokens” if you will, to sleep but as you listen to the rest of the album of take me back to Eden, you’ll see vessel is tired and done and wants to break free from this, essentially, abusive relationship. There’s much much more to it and I recommend just taking a dive into it
Almost the whole album is just "who hurt you man??"
I'm loving how mind blown you genuinely are 😆. Sleep token is a different breed .
#worshipmusic🙌
Listen to it twice...you will find the cadence. I can bob my head to it. They're literally redefining how people perceive Time Signatures. The verses are 2 bars of 6/8 followed by a bar of 4/4, fill at the intro comes in on the 4 of 6/8, but I believe the rest of the song is 4/4.
That time signature sooo threw me off -- I don't know why it sounded so foreign
@@HIM_066xMusicReactions I know it's really crazy! I love it though, I listen to a lot of TOOL and Danny Carey is the king of poly-rhythms, so my brain kind of automatically syncs up with songs like this.
If you think this beat/instrumental is hard to follow, try reacting to Tool's song called "Pneuma"
Man u dont have to pull tool out just yet. And theres is the dance of eternity 💁🏻♂️
I don't know if I am ready this instrumental really did my head in 😂
The time signature is 4/4 with kicks on every third beat of an 8th note pattern. Follow the high hat and you'll feel the 4/4
The problem is there are measures of 3/4 sprinkled in, or at least it would appear so due to the composition utilizing so many off-resolution notes and the way they jam so many fills in lol
I think, without really trying to verify it, the reason you found the intro so confusing was cause the instruments were basically playing a 6/8 melody over a 4/4 click, while the hihat and vocals followed the 4/4 click. I might be off on the specifics, but it's something like that. And I'm sure the first verse is actually in 4/4
Yeah I said something about the rhythm in my own comment. ST and II in particular tend to use polyrhythms in their music and it can be confusing at times to people who are so used to hearing everything in 4/4
Tool is listening
Granite is great and the offering is my fav. If you want to be in your feels…Atlantic or bloodsport (from the room below).
🙏🏾I appreciate you putting me on
Atlantic is a beautiful song, mesmerizing
If you like his high notes, you should know there are songs he sings entirely in falsetto - and it sounds amazing the whole way through.
U should checkout AN OFFERING FROM 2 THE SUMMONING. There is also the only interview done to date on Drumeo with Vessel 2. A must see.❤❤❤
WIll do ty friend for putting me on
Back again to see you get taken on the Sleep Token roller coaster. Love to see someone else experience their awesomeness in real time. Love to see the switch-up caught someone else by surprise too. Much love, much peace, keep bringing these good vibes.
I appreciate the support friend 🤜🏾
So glad you’re on this journey into their music! WORSHIP!
I’m pretty sure the summoning is all in the 4/4 time signature. I think the snare is just desynched from the guitar and bass at the beginning.
It is..the Intro and the fills are a bit offset but, it's 4/4.
This is another one that I enjoy watching reactions for. THAT change is sublime and it's like WUT HAPPENED?!?!
🤯🤯🤯
Peoples confusion with the changes is entertaining 😂
If you go to Drumeo's channel, they have a few videos of II, the drummer. He has added a live solo into the summoning that he plays...it is definitely worth a check out!
🙏🏾for sure friend ty
Man, seeing II play that solo during The Summoning live was transcendent!!! He is by far my favorite drummer of all time 😁
When I can’t follow the instrumental and just get lost in Vessels voice. That’s all I need
Wait till you hear Granite
Vessel is a classically trained singer. I am as well, so I can tell. I hope that helps! Worship!🖤
So glad you’re enjoying it!!!! Yes I will listen to them for the rest of my life. So many good songs to explore! Would love to see you react to Aqua Regia and Levitate and and and and….oh just listen to the whole discography. You will not be disappointed!!!
💯💯💯 Stay tuned Star!!!!!
The groove or "beat" can be a little difficult to pick up on with the prog in there, but the entire song, through all of the switch-ups, is in the same 4/4 - 173 bpm time signature. (which is wild) Feeding off that last part of this song, check out Aqua Regia next. It's very smooth, jazzy, and soothing.
I might have to move Aqua Regia up in the queue it has been highly requested -- stay tuned!!
Vessel has all the range a singer could hope for lol. Even live, his vocals are incredible and arguably better than the studio with all the extra runs and ad libs he does. I recommend checking out some of their live stuff if you can.
I really like your Sleep Token reactions 😊
You should watch the drummers play thru of this song. He does a drum solo thru that empty section. Hes a ridiculous drummer. Hes also made changes to the song since the studio recording. The video with Drumeo is the one youll wanna watch
Verse is phrased 6-6-4. Eighth notes are the common pulse
These guys are incredibly gifted
💯💯💯
With the tempo issue, if you follow the high hat at the beginning of the song you’ll find that it’s at 173 and in 87 at certain points for half time. The time signatures also change, but if keep the constant 173 at the heavy section/ movement, you’ll find it’s easy to follow with.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I will give it a try next listen
Sleep Token do their own thing. No one can do what they do. BUT, there is another band who does something similar (genre-bending). FALLING IN REVERSE - check them out. You won't regret it. If you do, I recommend checking out WATCH THE WORLD BURN or POPULAR MONSTER.
what confuses u is probably the melodic drumming instead of the classic rhythmic one, it always feels jazzy for me
It’s two bars of 6/4 followed by 4/4
💯 defo threw me off
Odd time signatures
You probably won’t be able to easily find a rhythm to “bop your head to” because II (the drummer) is notorious for using polyrhythms. So I kind of like sway side to side almost like a snake when I groove to ST music
Aqua Regis next pleaseeee
I got you -- stay tuned!
You want RnB Sleep Token? We have that. Sugar 😁
So you have to count the downbeat. Ignore the notes between, they're there to give the impression of off timing. The whispered section before the solo is just eighth notes. Count it off and you clearly see it.
Beat is off because it’s off tempo if you’re looking for a normal 4-4 frame. The chorus is the only thing that keeps a relatively normal structure. I highly suggest starting at the beginning album and working your way through, the payoff with the final song through the trilogy (Sundowning, TPWBYT and TBMTE) is so worth it.
its 3x3s and 4x2s, 4 times over to make 68 beats I think? along them lines
It’s in 6/4 then it changes mid intro into 3/8
It's polyrhythmic I think.
🤔
I KNOW its in 4/4 but the emphasis is on 3...I just dont know what that means xD
Looping?
In the beginning, it sounded like the instrumental looped 1 time
Hm... well I'm not very good at finding the beat to begin with, but I don't think syncopation or polyrhythms are very rare...
Mgk isn't a rock artist and his music is trash
"I dont know if they do Folk music"
close enough? :)
