I used to play with this car in my racing games when I was little. I’ve never actually seen anyone get one though. That thing is sick. Always wanted to see an Ariel atom pushed.

Remember your new toy has aero appendages that really work. When you had some over steer at the track, the solution is probably to add more rear wing. A degree or two more wing might be all you need. Don't use to much as you can stall the wing then you have no downforce just big drag. Looks like fun!!!

It could also suffer from the same issue F1 cars have, drivers inexperienced in them not driving fast ENOUGH. They come into a corner too slow, there's not enough aero downforce so no grip, not enough speed to keep the tires hot so you slide, and when you brake there's nothing there because they're cold, because you were SUPPOSED to hit that 45deg turn at 150mph minimum and you'd sail through like a hero...but you entered that turn at 98mph because terror and sailed into the runoff/wall.
When Richard Hammond tried to drive a real F1 car, he had that issue trying to even complete a lap. It's designed to operate at such a high level that if you don't commit 100% on every turn, every shift, every brake, it'll wreck you.
Though these are all true statements, I don't think this track is anywhere near fast enough for aero to make much of a difference.
I never noticed how patchy the track is,,, maybe folks outside of the Freedom Factory circle should start a go fund me to have it resurfaced as a thanks to Cleeter.

Which engine do you have with yours? I've been in one with a turbo Honda K series and it was so fast I swore my heart stopped beating under acceleration!

You guys need to start a board for hot laps of vehicle. Fastest laps by cleeter in what ever car & fastest laps by the public. People could do a hot lap part of spectator drags! Would be cool to see what vehicles do what over the years
If you get to keep the track running, it's going to be time for a full on repave. That is looking nasty in more than a few places.
I bet it's in the plans but they beat the living tar out of it with every race so I feel like they'll hold off on that investment as long as they can. And I don't think they'd notice much of a difference in the big races like LeMullets or the Freedom 500.

Over steer is a main thing in these Atoms. You have to push the car faster, with appropriate tires, to the point of your fight or flight sense kicks in. You have to put that sense behind you and push even harder because you have the down force to hold the car in the turns.

The problem is you can't get all that fast on this short track. He could push it and up another 50ish since he was sliding. It would help confidence to blow the track before going balls to the wall also.

You should have a special award for anyone that works there, and wins a race. 2nd place should take 1st, and the reward. I love that you're giving it away, but that system would cut down on having to do all that, and show a huge respect for people entering that can't practice at any hour, at any time on that specific track. Yu could even make it a challenge for everyone working there, with special rewards just for those who win ahead of the legitimate entries(not employee/owner). If you stay further on the outside of the turn and put better tires on it, you will go much faster, that car carries tons of speed in the turn so you don't have to hug the inside as deep as the crown vic

Out of all the 80’s Pontiac grand prix’s I owned and built in the mid 90’s I never built one as a 4x4 and always wanted to. That thing is perfect!!! I did do a 79 trans am, a Chevy Monza on lifted Blazer chassis. But like the Grand Prix!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a rotary powered EXOCET, a tube frame kit car kind of like the Atom but a bit easier to attain & not as refined. Not to say the EXOCET isn't good, the Ariel is just definitely more sophisticated. I go to alot of GRIDLIFE events and last year I saw one of the Honda K series powered Atom's at Lime Rock Park. I ended up having a faster time due to having quite a bit more power, the peripheral port 13B in the car is putting down 452 hp & 366 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels but in the corners he would eat into my lap time like crazy lol. He was talking about doing a 4G63 swap in his Atom & while I love the 4G I told him to just build the K series as they can make good power with the right build. Led me to upgrade quite a bit tho. Great choice guys, I didn't think the ECOTEC one was could sound as good as the K series one but it does LMAO. Who ever wins it is gonna have a blast. 🤙 Keep up the great work fellas 🤘

It's far better than it was than when he bought it, but obviously still a lot of room for improvement. Patching it up much more doesn't make as much sense as saving up to completely resurface it (and probably do quite some foundation work too), but with the zoning issues coming up in a couple of years, it may not make sense to put more money into it at all.
With the chance of getting shut down, Funds are Probably limited to greater Improvements....

Hey Cleetus The Atom original used the Suzuki Hayabusa engine complete with trans, look out for the V8 version only 500 were made used 2 x Hyabusa engines with a flat plane crank that revved its nuts off and sounded peachy.
amazing - the normal Honda engined version does 0-60 in 2.6sec. The flatplaned 3litre (2 x hayabusa engines) V8 is only 0.3 sec quicker. I imagine the Honda engine with a blower on it would be absolutely insane - hope you win it so you can then get to twin charge it with a turbo!

With new tires and pressure adjustments, and maybe a slight camber tweak, that thing could do 15 second laps easy... Just carry your speed up higher through the turning radius. 😊
I think the shifter knob look great, and it's plenty big. I'd say it's an average size knob. Not too big, not too small. Gets the job done.

I said it ages ago when you were trying to win Spectator drags. An Ariel Atom would stand a good chance. As James said, they're literally built for race tracks, they're one of the go to track day cars along with the Caterham, the KTM Xbow and a few others, they're the general staple cars for track days.
It's their cornering speed, it's just unreal.

Need to do track times with something like that. Have everyone in the shop do their best lap times and whenever someone new comes by have them do a lap and keep track of who is the fastest ect. Would make great content.

Early on at the FF Cleeter was doing a podcast in the little track announcer shack. I think it was called “Wheelman “. After the interview the guest would rip laps in the Wheelman Crown Vic and get their fastest lap on a leaderboard. I know Jeremy had a crack at it. Maybe JH and couple others.

Since you guys liked building the jet boat kits you need some exomotoive exocets or DF goblins kits to race around the track. The exocet will take anything you can shove in a miata, ls, k serise, lsa if you want to die lol. Goblins are built on cobalt drive lines so similar power options to the atom.

Cleetus that sure looks like a fun ripper. I have that same engine in a sandrail and it rips too. If you are looking to add more horses check out ZZPerformance for pulley upgrades on the supercharger and even a turbo swap kit. They are pretty much the leader for ECOTEC engine performance.
Dont they also use it on the Xbow or the slingshot as well? I can't remember which it is, but we worked on a house and the guy had one in the garage that had a treatment of ZZP parts, he said it made something like 273-275 to the rear tire, and it was more than he could ever dream of utilizing, but it made for a fun toy 😂 best part? He's a proffesor at the university, never would guess a guy like that would have a toy like that hiding in the garage lol

That motor came out of a cobalt ss I had one of the cobalt ss with the supercharger the later years came with turbos but it was a fun car.

If it was a 2 lap race, sure, but for one lap it would still get beat by a 4wd Porsche.
@@MrArcticPOWER a stock Atom is as quick as a Turbo S 0-60 and if that one is making 330 WHP it is far from stock. The Atom's power to weight ratio is sub 4 lbs/hp compared to about 6.2 lbs/hp for Cleet's Turbo S.
@@ReEvoluion 0-60 times on paper doesn't mean much on a track like this. We've seen plenty of big power RWD cars having no traction on this track and getting beat by a model 3.
Dude I've thought an Atom would be the hardest thing to beat at spectator drags, I really hope it stays at the track!

All you need is a cobalt and $700 worth or intake/ blower/ injectors and heat exchanger and you can have the same noises and nasty fwd burnouts would make a cool daily for George supercharged cobalt tire slayer
Man that thing looks insane. Even more insane is that Ariel made a v8 version of the atom with 500hp.
Find someone that has a Ariel atom V8 and bring it to the track for comparison
Ariel didn't make the V-8 version ....It was an owner that did it......
