  • Visiting a Bedouin Home to drink coffee, tea and eat bread inside of the tent in Jordan (بَدَوِي,). So this morning we are doing something called the Bedouin experience which means we are visiting a village with a local Bedouin and he's just showing us around some of the things his family do. Like how they make coffee, how they take care of their goats. We're going to be showing you that. And we've been invited into this tent. Right here.

This is the Bedouin tent. This is the men's part. Bedouin tents are divided for two parts. One for the women and one for the men. So always when there is guests this will be separate. The women will go to women part and the men will come to the men part.
Do you want to smell? Oh yeah, that's good. This will give you energy. Ooooh! Wonderful. How does it smell Audrey? Like coffee!
    Bang Bang Bang.
So when I serve it for you I will give you the cup in my right hand and if you have to hold it in your right hand. And you have to be sitting. I think all of you are sitting in the right way to have coffee. If you're lying down it's not respectful to have coffee, so you have to respect the meaning of the coffee and the host. We don't give the coffee for somebody lying down. We should be sitting up.
So the Bedouin are a nomadic people. This right here is their summer home and they're just in the process of moving to the winter home which is just over there.
The winter home is more protective as it has coverage from the wind, blocked by hills and mountains.
We've also been learning a little bit about Bedouin hospitality and apparently if a stranger wanders into your home it is common for you to offer them to stay for a maximum of three nights with no questions asked and after that they will either inquire 'why are you here? Where are you going? Or you are free to leave and go your way.
I have coal on my eyes. Does it look good? It does. Beautiful.
Just stop moving. That's so funny.
This is part of our Travel in Jordan series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Jordanian culture, Jordanian arts, Jordanian foods, Jordanian religion and Jordanian people.

I feel so trapped in my middle-class, suburban, American life and some days I become depressingly aware of how disconnected I am with the rest of humanity and its various cultures and daily goings-on. Watching you two explore the world through video gives me a sense of liberation and helps me cope with the depressing thoughts. Thanks for that. Maybe in another life, I will also go on adventures.

this is great *_* my grandma used to live as a Bedouen in Qatar but when she moved to eastern saudi arabia after getting married her village slowly developed into a city, now some fifty years later, she's still very specific about how we make and pour the coffee (قهوة) hahaha XD i hope you had fun in Jordan, and i hope to see some modern city footage because for some reason, a lot of north americans assume all arab countries are nomads like in this video because nobody films in the (boring) big cities XD

Obviously we have so many rules when it comes to coffee and hospitality, but I don't know any of them, all i know is if you don't want more coffee just shake the cup, or is it the other way around! That kohl looked good on you too :P I use channel though for my kohl, yours was more authentic ...

I don't get how bedouins aren't related to Indian people. Some of the facial features looked very very similar and the way of eating bread like that with something that looked like a curry looks like what they do in India. Then the dress looks similar as well. Also I don't get how all Europeans are from one race. Why aren't Arabs and Indians considered from the same race they look a lot alike and Arabia a lot of it is in Asia too. How aren't Arabs considered Asian? But man it feels like you went back in time to another place. Absolutely beautiful the scenery and everything.

ⵢⵓⵏⴻⵙ ⴷⵓⵎⵉⵍ but India isn’t near Arabian Peninsula? Btw i did my DNA ancestry test and i got 98% West Asia and 2% North Africa! I am Saudi from a well-known tribe! Btw it is in fact that Gulf Arabs are considered to have the highest inbred through cousins not to mention the importance of tribe linage and Arab customs to them! Is there some Gulf Arabs with Indian percentage in them, yes! However are ALL 200 tribes in Arabia Gulf have Indian in them nope!
