    The gift i'm providing my nephews (who ended up grabbing themselves some commander precons throughout the year) with a few commander decks. The trick is that i'm just gifting them a few empty deckboxes and sleeves. Then, for the duration of their visit they'll get access to the array of drawers where i keep my cards to make and modify a deck each, with some guidance to suggest stuff and testing and such.

    Bundles are great gifts for players just building their collection because they contain booster packs and a nice looking box to store the cards in.

    Im glad you pushed a Christmas gift idea to the public. Best way to tell non mtg friends/family what to get in a affordable and solid options. Unfortunately out of all the channels i watch. Your the first this year to say anything. Continue the great work magic Arcanum.

    Quite the commentary on the current state of Magic that so few viewers are interested in getting MTG gifts this Christmas.

    As a player that has multiple decks I would prefer a nice set of sleeves over more cards. Maybe even a personalized set of sleeves unique to who it's from

    • @MagicArcanum
      @MagicArcanum  Před rokem +6

      I thought cosmetics like sleeves, play mats, and deck boxes would be too personal to encourage a non-player to purchase on behalf of a player. That's why I tried to steer them toward packs and products that would still be appealing, without trying to guess specific preferences.

    • @superscrubgaming5135

      That's fair and understandable.

    Online card stores are pretty great. The one I personally use provides a small pack of gummy bears, a pen, and a bulk rare in every shipment which is always a nice touch.

    For my personal MtG gift preferences, it's something you didn't mention specifically but related - Local game store gift certificate! Yes, gift certificates can be seen by some as a very impersonal gift, and I get that. But the vast majority of my MtG spending isn't on physical items, it's on entry fees and snacks from my FLGS. Five bucks to sit in their clean setting and be matched against other Commander players for casual 4-5 hours of fun is a great use of my money, and along with high markup drinks/snacks helps them pay the rent.
    Other than that, set boosters are probably the #1 easiest and safest gift. At under five bucks, they're good at any budget; as a sole gift on a low one, or accompanying a larger purchase or having a couple as a stocking stuffer.

    I'm pretty sure the Amazon opened product issue only happens with "Amazon Warehouse", where they resell returned items. It can be hard to tell from the descriptions that are just like "item is in original packaging" whether it's been opened or not... I've gotten some great deals on stuff with beat-up boxes, but also found some really sneaky returns, like someone who took apart the glued seam on the outer slipcase from a fat pack bundle, then glued it back together after slitting the packs open and going through the cards. So yeah, Amazon is very much not good for MTG gifts, but you can get, say, a Commander deck in a crushed outer box for half price, lol. On the other hand, I did order a Crimson Vow Commander deck and return it three times before I got the correct one - they kept sending me the same AFR one.
    The most dead-on recommendation here, IMO, is Star Realms. That type of deckbuilder is all combos and card advantage, so for a certain type of player, it's so satisfying.

    • @MagicArcanum
      @MagicArcanum  Před rokem

      Yeah I'm sure you can find good deals on Amazon but the risk outweighs the reward, and like I said in the video, it's much better for the hobby to support a local game store anyway. Star Realms is great for a lot of reasons - you can definitely "go off" with certain combinations of cards, but even just from the 'lore' perspective with the different factions, and later expansions adding hero characters, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

      @@MagicArcanum Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it. I went to check their website and I kind of felt lied to. I looked at their shirts and none of it is specifically Magic: the Gathering. It's all just generic art that could potentially be associated with MtG but none of it is directly related and that disappointed me. Not saying that the art is bad, it's just not what I was expecting.

    • @MagicArcanum
      @MagicArcanum  Před rokem

      Oh dear! Sorry about the confusion. In the video I do say "They’ve got amazing graphic tees, with designs that feel very similar to the characters and locations you often find on Magic cards, which make them a great match for fans of the game." I certainly wasn't trying to lie to anyone. I consider the designs to be "magic-adjacent" and that's why I suggest them as a gift for Magic players, even if they are not designs actually taken from cards. Plus, not everyone has the confidence (or desire) to wear MTG branded clothes, so Into the AM lets you kinda signal your passion without literally wearing it on your sleeve! 😅

      Set boosters are the best way to get cards from a given set, when compared to draft boosters (which have more useless commons) or collector boosters (which are very expensive for the number of cards they provide).

      Money is always a fine gift, without being unique to Magic players 😅
