    Welcome to iTripReport's flight reviews, which I focus on reviewing both the soft product and hard product of airlines around the globe. I strive to give you guys a first person perspective of different aspects of the flight. Including the ground service, onboard service, and those views that come with the flight. As you can see, I record quite a lot of the experience to make sure I record what you want to watch. As always, thank you so much for watching.

    I started with United 10 days out of high school, on June 16, 1997, when United received this plane. I remember everyone, including myself, excited about the new A319s coming to UA at that time. They were and still are way more comfortable than any 737 series. I miss my days at United until 2003! If it wasn’t for 9/11 I would’ve still been there. Now great to see UA trying to be the best like they were in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Put in my first-ever flight attendant application last month (with United, of course), made it to the second round of interviews, but didn't get past that. Will try again soon until I make it in! This is likely an unpopular opinion, but I actually like United the most among the US big 3. I’ve flown extensively with all 3, in all their cabins (albeit only on domestic flights, but I’ve flown the international business class hard product domestically on all 3), and I have elite status with all 3, and I’ve been the most consistently happy with United. I’m not sure if it’s just a pandemic or post-pandemic thing, but I’ve felt United has had the most attentive and friendly flight attendants and pilots and the most reasonable prices, without being significantly less comfortable than Delta. I’ve been underwhelmed with Delta actually - plenty of times where flight attendants will come through in the beginning of the flight and they’ll just disappear for the rest of the flight. Not to mention Delta is typically the most expensive of the big 3. And the proper Polaris seats are just as nice/comfy as the Delta One Suites on the A350 if you get a Polaris seat next to the window and not an aisle seat

    • @AllyMcLesbian
      @AllyMcLesbian Před rokem +1

      Honestly when it comes to Delta having the best reputation, it's more about hype and having the most enthusiastic fans. But then when the Delta fans start coming to discussion boards of other airlines and trash the airline in question in favor of Delta, no thanks. I don't care how good the Delta hard and soft products are, nor how good their crew are, if that's how their customers/fans behave, that's a hard no.
      Another transportation company that I refuse to patronize for the same reason: Lyft.
      As for me, United is my favorite major airline, but I will also gladly fly American, and if going a bit smaller, Alaska is my favorite as well. Also while I never experienced the current Polaris hard product, I've experienced the Polaris soft product on the old Global First suites and loved it.

    Despite the old PSU's and sidewalls staying, from what I saw in the video, they got rid of the old wallpaper that was on the side panels which before gave the aircraft a very vintage feel. I don't mind the old PSU and sidewalls staying because mixing old with new is kinda cool to me.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 Před rokem +2

      I'm hoping they don't do the same for the older 737s. For those, they should either keep the Continental wallpaper (similar to what AA did) or upgrade to Sky interior sidewalls (which is what KLM did). If they put in white classic sidewalls, it's doesn't look good.

    I worked/am still working on the implementation of the Airbus Customer Experience modification project. I was on location earlier this year supporting this exact aircraft, which would be referred to as a "Pilot" aircraft, but never got to see it take off! I was also able to be on site later to work through the A320 Pilot, and was able to play around with the new lighting system a bit. I am so glad that you liked it, and I am so happy to see all of it come together into a package that I am proud to be a part of. It is astonishing the scale of work that needs to be done to make this happen, and there is still a lot more to be done.

      quite honestly, the entire cabin of the 738 looks absolutely terrible to me. I’d hope they completely revamp it or it’ll look really cheap and just straight up bad. The A319 looks a bit odd, but they cleaned it all up and updated everything enough that it isn’t bothersome. I’ve personally never seen an airline do a full retrofit of a 738 and not convert it to sky interior, so I’m crossing my fingers United doesn’t go cheap on us and just replace the seats.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 Před rokem

      @@LegitimateAviation Given a 737 without a sky interior, there are many ways this can go (if we ignore the seats). It can either get a full sky interior like KLM, it can get Space Bins while retaining original sidewalls like AA, it can get 3rd party bins like Qantas, it can get classic sidewalls but new texture like Alaska and analogous to UA's A319s. I'd like to see UA go the KLM or AA route, and not the Qantas or Alaska route. Of course, if a 737 already has sky interior, there are 2 possible changes: Space Bins or 3rd party bins like Qantas and Delta

    • @LegitimateAviation

    I’m really happy UA decided to retrofit their Airbus! This is the 2nd time UA has screens on their A319/A320’s. The other time was before 2014 when they used to have overhead screens. This time it has the Seatback IFE screens and for the first time since 2014, there has now been a safety video play before a UA Airbus flight as it’s awesome they no longer will have to do the manual demonstration since the IFE is back! I do look forward to more of these as well too, and one last interesting thing about this video, but it looks like they had a last minute gate change at IAH. Before landing the captain said it would be gate C45, but it looks like you came into gate C31 or something like that? Anyways great video of both this one and the one of the B737-800NG as I have yet to watch one of the B757-200 new interior which I will shortly, and hope you also do a trip report on the A320 new interior, and in the future on a B737-900 and B757-300 new interior once they send those aircraft types into retrofit over time!

The cabin was very modern with IFE screens and I love that they are compatible with bluetooth headsets! Wish other airlines would offer that on their IFE screens but maybe they will in the future! However my only complaint with United as you said the snack service is terrible. Very small servings and not a wide selection. Not good especially on a long flight like I was on. • @LegitimateAviation
      @LegitimateAviation Před rokem

      It’s bc the 300s were some of the first to be retrofitted (after the 777s) and at the time untied wasn’t necessarily all in on mood lighting. The 400s have been the last of the wide bodies to get a proper upgrade, so they will probably end up being a bit nicer. The other reason might just be bc United wants to retire the 767s in the next few years (once they get a replacement), so they might not care too much to spend that much money on them.

      @@upaviation787 I’ve flown United all my life and have seen the goods and bads. I’ve had very few bad experiences flying them, and my only complaint I really ever had was the lacking of proper hard product amenities on domestic flights. I’m not sure what people hate about United, as quite honestly, I’ve had worse experiences flying delta. Delta has an arguably equal to United product now (with UAs retrofits), but they’ve really lacked in ground service and overall customer care. I’m a nobody to United as I’ve never collected any points (which I kinda regret), but my family has decent status on delta and it’s still nothing special. So to wrap up what I’m saying, I really don’t think United is bad at all especially compared to many other airlines. While Delta might have a better overall product most of the time, United has proved to make due with what they have. Not every airline is perfect of course, so I don’t typically hold these things against the airlines bc it changes so often. These are just my opinions based off experience, I can’t speak for others and vice versa as we all have had different experiences.

      Sadly, on the 737 MAX Channel 9 is still not activated since they had bugs in which the system would tap into pilots conversations. So while it’s installed, it’s still shown as INOP for pilots

    The seats are the same Recaro model that American pulled out of their A319/21 and 737’s ironically… they’re also very similar to the Recaro slimline seats UA had previously. I wonder if there was a way to “retrofit” the old seats by removing the tray table and literature pocket and installing an IFE system and new tray table onto them..? Maybe they’re the same seats as before but modified and refurbished? Or maybe they’re American’s old seats that they just finished removing..?

    United's $8 wifi certainly isn't as good as free, but I do appreciate that it's actually fleet-wide on all domestic flights. Unlike Delta where yes getting a free wifi equipped plane is nice, but plenty of planes still don't have free wifi yet, like an A220 I caught last week, and wifi costs more on those. Some Delta widebodies are charging $30 for 4 hours of wifi and it sounds like Delta has no plans to lower those prices as they don't seem interested in offering free wifi on domestic widebodies; while I wish the wifi was free I do at least appreciate the price consistency on United (and Alaska / Southwest for that matter who both also charge $8).

As for the older e145s and CRJ200s, United probably won’t ever touch those bc they are old and small. If United wants to become America's #1 carrier they need to treat the employees better. I'm talking better work rules, and overall, treat the employees like adults. When an employee is treated like an adult it will show in their work ethics. Although raises are nice (and certainly much needed) it truly doesn't take significant raises for your employees to respect you. It takes humane treatment to show appreciation. Sometimes good humane treatment means more than a raise. I don't care if I'm making $200k per year. If I'm being treated like garbage and I don't know if I'll have a job tomorrow, I'm gone.
