    Two great kits. I built the AMT in the 1960s as a kid. I purchased the Revell last year. Cheers from Nova Scotia....

    Very well done video. Excellent information. I haven't bought any built that AMT kit since the 80's. You just got me wanting to get and build one, again.

    So, back in those days AMT and other model car companies would either send or let their guys go out and research what was happening in the custom car scene. They also visit speed equipment manufacturers and retailers to document and photograph speed parts. That's why the kits back then were more thorough. As far as your paint problem, (I learned this as well) when you get those cast resin kits we need to wash them with hot soapy water to get rid of the release agent from the mold wich is usually a silicon based agent. Besides bad prep, Silicone is a painter's worst enemy.

    That was a great comparison of the different kits. What I appreciate the most, is your insight to how the different chopped bodies compare. As I would never be able to chop such a kit, I would build the Revell kit and be happy with it. I'd also like to build the AMT stock version to just have one of each. Have a great weekend!

    I agree wirh you 100% on the revell body. It looks so wrong in many ways so ihave never built one myself either. But what i have done is to use rhe whole chassie and interior in a amt body..that is completely doable with just some minor adjustments. Have that project sitting in a box waiting for me to get my inspiration flowing on it so i can decide on a color scheme for it. If you are interested i can take some photos of it or something like that.

    Great review of the Mercurys. I have built several of both kits and I love them. I have a video about 2 years ago of my Mercs if you want to see them. Ron

    Nice comparo video. These 2 kits are so way different from each other in too many ways to list. However both are nice kits with cool optional parts. The Revell kit is of a way more modern tooling & does assemble better. The AMT kit , however is a nice kit from it's day.

    Nice video. The wheels/tires are Monogram and 1/24 so they are out of scale. I was going to use the Chrome reverse on the USACC if I went custom (what the mock up was at the end of entry video). Revell is loaded for a great custom out of the box. I will use one for an AG Merc stand in as like you said the roof looks very similar in a "scrunched" ? look. I have a couple of both, just needing certain parts to build the way I want to. Thanks for sharing

    That's why it's a model you can re-chop it and make it how you want it. Just get you some putty and paint and make it what it ain't.
    Dremal tool sharp Razer, some super glue.
    I have a 50 ford coupe my brother painted in 1978 Kustom patterns he accully taped off and painted with an airbrush. I've built a few model's still have them from the early 1990s there are two 51 Chevys convetable and a fast back I still have them in my show case. My other model's I had my 2 nephews got a hold of them and played smash em up durbie came home and they were in pieces.
    I have a few model's still in the box I bought in garage sale and flea markets.
    I'm going to make a model plane a P-40 war hawlk out of the widest muffler pip going to be about 2' to 3' feet long to have on my out side flag pole made out of steel.

    I believe the Caddy hubcaps made a return in the most recent reissue, that has the old box art. And, I often have the painted nails as well. It happens.

    I wonder how hard it would be to wedge some extra material at those a-pillars on the Revell kit and raise the front part of the roof a bit to fix that issue.

    • @HayAuto
      @HayAuto  Před 9 měsíci

      I had that thought as well… a slight un-chop of the A-pillar.

  • @smithgroove945

    I am partial to the really modified swoop back Merc with no chrome and no pillar, Cobra style.

  • @williambruce9207
    @williambruce9207 Před 9 měsíci

    Nice campare, didn't you say the Revell kit on the back window had the "chrome" trim on the glass? That might be why it is bigger!? The other 2 bodies had it on the body. Also could the wheels be a 16 to 18 size, instead of a stock 15? I did see someone else pointed out they might be a 1/24 scale wheel. But theoretically, they could have put 16s on the car. But if it has a stock version option, then a set of wheels should match too. The B pillar looks like it was shortened from stock, and not angled after being shorted as on the resin body. I do like that they use a Buick nail head, a Caddy engine or a Chrysler cross ram, instead of just a flat head ford, or a Chevy as options. I do think that Ford engines should be more of an option in Ford vehicles other then just a flat head.

    • @HayAuto
      @HayAuto  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Good point about the rear window, that's probably why, the trim on the window takes up the extra space. Thanks for the comment!

  • @BIGJIM1934
    @BIGJIM1934 Před 9 měsíci

    The back window looks bigger because the trim is on the window.
