    Hey cool video, this concept really gets my juices flowing. I think your shots would benefit greatly from stopping down slightly though. As in like 3,5, which is what I guess you were shooting at with the 35-70? Because it granted you a bit more sharpness, which is more pleasing aesthetically - at least to me. CYA

    Great vid. Good to know your results! As a Mitakon 85mm and 63mm owner these have pretty similar results. I haven't had much success adapting 35mm lenses myself with the ones over tried. But was also very please with the Minolta 58mm f1.2 myself. The lens is surprisingly warmer off the bat, and has had the least amount of vignetting to me. The Mitakon lenses also have a warmer tone as compared to modern Fuji lenses, but the Minolta is twice as warm.

    Thank you very much for this very informative video! I am shooting an X-T4 now and only shoot vintage glass. I am thinking about buying a GFX50SII too. I am still unsure if I should also buy the GF 35-70mm, which is only 500 Euros here in Europe instead of 1000 when bought as a kit lens. Some of my photographer friends who I asked told me to go for it. But I shoot more than 99% of my pictures with primes, I have mixed feelings about the missing aperture ring, I never will use the autofocus and the lens is quite slow. It seems you like vintage lenses as much as I do: would you recommend buying the 35-70mm anyway?

    • @WoodenAxle
      @WoodenAxle  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for writing! I would say yes, the 35-70mm is the perfect sharp, auto focus, lightweight, Fujifilm-made lens to pair with any and all vintage/primes you’d use on a GFX camera. In my opinion, the 35-70mm is THE affordable way to make sure ALL your bases are covered with this system. I’ll use it for all the faster moving and family/non-artistic photo and video situations. Does that help?

    Nice work from your 50s & vintage lenses-the jcPenny lens have me curious now. I’ve been using the Takumar 55 f1.8 with my 50r for over 2 years now & the combo continues to get intriguing results-even in b&w. I’ve tried vintage Nikor & Canon lenses for some crazy swirling bokeh & sumptuous color, but the Pentex, for me, is ever more additive. The native GFX lenses are also excellent (buy used), but lack the film-like look that I preferred over sharpness. Looking forward to see more of your work. Scribed. ✌🏼& 📸

I’ve also heard of people having trouble taking certain builds of the Mitakon off of their camera, almost like it’s welded on… I honestly might just use the kit lens and spend some time researching a longer focal length. Do you shoot the 55mm lens in 35mm mode? These look just like ordinary 35mm photos to me when shot with an old lens on a 35mm full frame mirrorless. I might buy the GFX to use my old medium format lenses (about a dozen Hasselblad and Mamiya lenses), but the GFX sensor is almost as small as a regular full frame. I wish they had a true 645 or 6x6 digital that was also affordable, but everyone knows that will not happen in 1-3 decades, if ever.

    • @WoodenAxle
      @WoodenAxle  Před rokem

      I shout it in the default mode. I’ve see that “35mm mode” before but I’ve never looked into it to see what exactly it does. Would you recommend that mode?

    • @steveh8658
      @steveh8658 Před rokem

      @@WoodenAxle I shoot with it in 35 mm mode for my 35mm lenses and it just extracts (crops) the image to 35mm size. Literally. That way you don't get the vignetting (personal choice yeah) and it makes the 35mm lens a little more telephoto by a factor of about hmmm... x1.2 I would say, it's not much. So your 55 becomes say 66mm. It also takes it to a 3:2 crop.

    Stop wasting your time and money buying digital to mimic film. It will never happen. Either shoot film or find a digital look that you like and stick to it. I also have Pentax 67 with lenses from 45 mm to 300mm, and I have not noticed any magical rendering of the 105. The 165 F2.8 has much smoother transition from in-focus to out of focus. Happy shooting.
