  • In this video we have a case study of a PRIMER SESSION featuring our hooker: Mona.
From our research last year we learned that Mona does better with a primer session and so we’ve included an explosive workout into his morning before an afternoon league game in an attempt to aid his performance on the rugby pitch.
We use a linear positional transducer from VITRUVE which can be found here:

⚠️ Full disclosure, this video is sponsored by Vitruve…and I am so grateful for that!
I will NEVER promote a company that I don’t believe in, and I truly believe that ANYONE who is serious about their training would benefit from the use of a LPT such as Vitruve!!!

I've always struggled with the idea that I need to physically exhaust myself with drills right before a game. Maybe i was just lazy back then.
But 5hrs before kick off seems good to me. I can have breakfast afterwards and hopefully not arrive lethargic before the actual game.

The idea is not to physically exhaust yourself; rather, use exercise as a form of acute preparation. It’s not for everyone, and so not something I recommend to everyone. In this video, I was just demonstrating one protocol we use with an individual that benefits from this type of primer.

Do you know how the springboks won the world cup with their fitness? Do you think the springboks did the right thing with fitness? I want your opinion, because I know you are an expert in fitness coaching

Good question. I wouldn’t suggest SA won the World Cup with their fitness. Winning any rugby game (or championship) at a high level is multifactorial and while the Boks were certainly very well conditioned, so were the All Blacks and other teams at the RWC.
They were very well prepared physically and had great depth within their squad. Though the tactical and technical elements of the game made the main difference.
It’s important to be as well conditioned as possible to allow for more options tactically and technically. Obviously at that level, 1-23 players are in their athletic prime and peaked for the World Cup.
