For me, SU-METAL's voice is like magic. Sometimes it pushes me strongly, sometimes it heals me as if enveloping me, and sometimes it makes me smile with its cute, angelic voice. It is truly mysterious.
It is a pity that some people find her voice annoying. Perhaps the receiver in their mind is pointing in a different direction.
At least I feel proud that I have an antenna that can correctly catch the vibrations emanating from SU-METAL. I am sure you are the same as me.👍

Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
Cool to see you're back enjoying this beautiful stripped down Piano Version. Don't worry, we all there are always cutting onions ninjas around everytime she sings this type of songs.🧅🥷
BM fans already know this type of unique acoustic version such Akatsuki Unfinished Version live at Legend 1997 or "The One - Stairway To Living Legend", so we're used to this SuMetal's vocals power to reach and melting our hearts.
Fans at the recent World Tour 2023 were enjoying the original version of this song at almost every show and having a magical moment and hopefully we're gonna get more this year with the festivals left, they just announced they will be performing at NEX_FEST Jakarta next August.
The three white figures dressed in white are probably a reference to old BM era when YuiMetal was still part of the group or maybe a reference to the new young BM subunit they previously performed along with them and are part of this new metalverse project, you already met them at the festival a week ago.
When they released this Piano Version the new official member MomoMetal wasn't announced yet, that's why you only see the two of them, after the official announcement they released another acoustic version of the song The One (which is a love letter to their fans you should really not miss) called "The One - Unfinished Version" and they included MomoMetal, the new official member in it.
Another song that will surely pierce your heart again and is more close with the Hiroshima theme since the kamishibai tells about it:
    - No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S Baptism XX 2017, careful coz it's heavily blocked.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and emotions on this and see you next time.🦊🤘🌈

    • @stuffandwhatnot4401
      @stuffandwhatnot4401 Před 23 dny

Even putting aside the visuals associated with each version, in the lyric video, Su's vocals are a bit more upbeat so the break in her voice after the first verse hits harder. In the 1st Take version, her vocals are a bit more melancholy so the break in her voice, this time after the second verse, while emotional is less of a gut punch. Live, at least the PIA version, she just seems so happy that all that goes away.
Not quite as wildly different as the two versions of Akatsuki but still there.

  • @danielthk
    @danielthk Před 24 dny +17

    My interpretation of this performance:
    - This song (first take ep 299) is meant as a final goodbye to Yuimetal before they welcome the new member Momometal (first take ep 309).
    - Even though Yuimetal was out of the group for almost 5 years, the possibility was always there for her to return as long as the spot was not replaced. This possibility is now gone.
    - It uses a sombre grey background, which is unusual for first take while the message from the song is about moving on from dark times.
    - The 3 white hooded figures, had appeared before in the MV of Karate. In this video, the right hooded figure is taller than the other 2, the form of the group when they first start out. It is also the same right side as Su-metal while she is singing while Moametal is on the left. This suggests the middle figure represents Yuimetal.
    - The hand holding scene is focused on the middle figure holding hands with the other 2. This can be interpreted as even though she is out of the group, their friendship remains. It can also suggest Yuimetal's departure was amiable and out of her control (e.g. health reason as she explain).

It was a wonderful reaction. I love SU-METAL's singing voice. I think there are many singers out there who are good at singing, but I like SU-METAL's natural singing voice that doesn't rely on technique. When I first heard the piano version, I couldn't stop crying. She is good at conveying emotions. I feel like I can see the emotions. It's just so beautiful, I can't put it into words.

In my opinion, the fourth concept album, The other one, is a statement of gratitude and farewell to the past BM and YUI, and a statement of determination for the new BM with MOMO.
This Monochrome is the last recording before the new BM, and I think the three people in white in the video represent SU, MOA, and YUI. I believe it is also a song to send to YUI who chooses a different path and challenges herself. I don't think the real YUI was here, but I am certain that YUI was present here.
When I listen to this song and the 4th album with this in mind, I am deeply moved. (Maybe I'm delusional).

Thanks again from the country you are residing 有難う💛。In this first take version, the girls proved that they can do anything. They have forced people to headbang with their heavy music and sharp choreo. Now they can depict various images by just singing and project them into the listeners' brain to move people emotionally. Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba, the BM producer, for your serendipity. Some 14 years ago, you certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us. Speaking of the three figures in white hood adding some background vocals, I believe they are homage to BM's girlhood with original three girls, whereas current reborn BM have new and matured triangle formation.

I have only ever listened to that version of The One a single time, and never seen any reason to revisit it. I think maybe their English lyrics might be an attempt to appeal to foreign fans, but I wouldn't have looked for Japanese music if I felt a need for that. Regarding the three figures, I saw people speculate it represents the original Babymetal. This was I think the last output of theirs before the Black Night and Clear Night shows that represented the 'death' and 'rebirth' of Babymetal, so this was the duo Babymetal saying goodbye to the original band with Yui. They then did First Take again after those shows, now with Momo as part of the group, and performed The One so the two First Take performances bookend the death and rebirth of the group.

I think we sometimes cry when watching them perform due to a mysterious and rare thing that sometimes happens when art is made. I'll try to be brief. I think, starting with KOBAMETAL and running all the way through this production from top to bottom, there is a deep dedication to beauty and joy. All artists aspire to that end, but few get there. Somehow, I think they all forget they're talented, forget they're famous. They dedicate what they do to beauty and joy.

The obligatory: "This reminds me of an anime opening ..." came an incredible 17 seconds into the song, while there was only piano playing, before the vocals even kicked in; unbelievable.
Now that I have that out of the way; we know that Monochrome has no attachment to any anime whatsoever, however, if we were to retrofit the song to an anime, I think it would have to be the closing track for "Grave of the Fireflies".
Grave of the Fireflies is widely regarded as one of the top 10 war movies ever made (yes, it's a cartoon) and the emotions of love, hope and positivity that Babymetal weave into this performance of Monochrome reflect the sad beauty of sacrifice and unconditional love that underpins The Grave of the Fireflies.
Johnny, if you haven't watched Grave of the Fireflies already, then you really need to. If the song Monochrome moves you to tears because of the implied themes vividly depicted in the lyric video for the song, then you will bawl through half of the movie. Actually, that would be fun. Johnny, if you haven't already seen Grave of the Fireflies, I dare you do record a reaction of you watching the movie. That would be killer.

There are only two singers who's voices can get me emotional; Su-metal is one, and Floor Jansen of Nightwish is the other. I've said for a long time that Su-metal's greatest gift is her ability to express emotions across the language barrier. You don't need to understand a word of Japanese to know exactly what she is conveying.
It's kind of a shame that they didn't play Monochrome at FOX_FEST and you didn't get to see it live, even though the version they play live is not this one. They've played at almost every show they have played over the last year and half, so it was a bit unlucky that it wasn't on the setlist.
If you enjoy hearing Su sing with the music stripped back and a focus on her vocals, you should check out "No Rain, No Rainbow" (unfinished version), and "The One" (Stairway to Living Legend version).
You're far from alone in initially misjudging Babymetal. Many people, myself included, initially wrote them off as a gimmick band and didn't give them the respect they deserved. It's such a common occurrence, that I find myself wondering how much bigger they would be if more people got over that initial hurdle of "Gimme Chocolate" and actually got to see what they can really do.

Lovely reaction. Su got you with her first note ... she does that a lot.😢
Su-metal and Moametal recorded this video as a duo shortly before 1st April last year (2023) when, as you know, after 4 -5 years as a duo, BABYMETAL became a trio again when Momoko was revealed as the new official third member Momometal.
The figures in white in this video - they were providing backing vocals/harmonies on the "ohohoh" parts of course, but there is always something more to it.
We don't know who they were (we can have an educated guess). They may have been a reference back to when BABYMETAL had been a trio and a hint that they would become a trio again very soon, but I think their being dressed in white was possibly the most significant thing.
BABYMETAL have performed dressed in white two times before this (3 if you count the 'Karate' official video) and each time it was at a significant turning point in their own history.
First time was at Legend Z early in 2013 for the last 2 encores. This was their final performance as a sub-unit of their parent group Sakura Gakuin before BABYMETAL separated to go their own way as an independent band in their own right.
Second time Yui and Moa started the Legend 1997 (December 2013) concert dressed in white making a theatrical offering of neck braces to the god of metal (represented by the statue in that concert). Legend 1997 was the final step of their separation and becoming independent band. The whole concert told that story of their transition and in particular of Suzuka Nakamoto's transition, giving up her life and existence as a JPop Idol and sacrificing herself to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal.
If you include the 'Karate' official video - that was the lead single for the second album (2016) and that was another big step as they moved on from the first album which was nearly half full of songs they had originally released with Sakura Gakuin and started to explore more metal genres musical styles.
So here we see figures in white again ... and this was just before the "new" BABYMETAL was revealed with Momometal joining Su-metal and Moametal to make up the new trio.
All of that is just my own thinking of course - there is every chance I've read far more into it all than is really there.

After having seen your love for this song, I’m surprised that it took you so long to get to this version. Seems it didn‘t take long for it to get to you, though. :-) I have watched this countless times, and it still makes me cry every time. Incredible!
Apart from Su's "waratte" at the end being very powerful in itself, it leaves us with this terrible silence after it has faded. The angelic sound of her voice is so pleasing to the ear, I just don't want it to end.

Amazing! How I felt about this song, "I'm not crying, you're crying". Lol.
Su's voice is amazing here, and I absolutely love all versions of Monochrome! I raaaaarely ever tear up for things, and both versions of Monochrome got me a bit teary eyed. First time in a very long while anything's done that to me. So yeah, all around amazing performance.
If you want to hear more of Su's vocals:
    *Akatsuki (Budokan 2014):* Su-metal solo
*Amore (Wembley 2016):* Su-metal solo (should be pre-watermarked videos due to copy rights).
*No Rain, No Rainbow (Official Live):* Su-metal solo, from Legend-S, for her 20th Bday.
*Tamashii No Rufuran (Legend 1997):* Su-metal solo, and a special cover of a Evangalion OST for her 16th Bday show.
*Light and Darkness (Pia Arena MM):* A very vocally centric song, but beautiful and amazing.

For other emotional roller coasters with the already mentioned Akatsuki and No Rain, No Rainbow I suggest Akatsuki unfinished version from the Legend 1997 show (on Su's 16th birthday in 2013) and additionally Akatsuki from the Budokan 2014 show (with subtitles on the For The Fox God channel).
A great version of No Rain, No Rainbow is from the Legend S show in 2017, the first show without Yui and the last Babymetal show with guitarist Mikio Fujioka who sadly passed away a month later. This one can be found on the Hymnodic channel with subtitles.

While I am so grateful that Momo has joined and I cannot wait to watch her help BABYMETAL grow and expand, a part of me will miss the period where Suzuka and Moa were a duo. Moa has spoken a lot about their relationship and the love she has for Suzuka, and I really enjoy these intimate moments between them. If you want another tear jerker, watch Moa's reaction to Suzuka graduating from Sakura Gakuin.

    Great stuff
Su really is something special, as is Moa (and Momo now too) but Su’s voice is such a beautiful thing it’s hard to believe she is still only 26 years old. To be fair she was virtually this good in 2008/2009 and then in 2010 with BABYMETAL she just blossomed into this magical young woman who is able to crush a grown men’s emotions with one note. I’ve often said I don’t always know what Su is singing but I almost always know exactly what she means. It’s amazing. If you are looking for something a bit more up tempo and fun you could do worse that track down their song “Awadama Fever” it’s a bit of an underrated banger and the choreography is fantastic fun. Some versions have a Kami band intro too. 👍
