Hi Jessie ❤️I’m so sorry for your loss. I know words can do very little next to what you’re facing, but I hope you feel them just the same. I’m guessing life is upside down and nonsensical right now. Whatever your way of coping is, I hope you’re taking care of yourself and letting those who love you take care of you too.
As for the video idea, I would love to do a video on this. It may not be for a number of weeks, but it’s on the list and I’m going to make this and put serious thought towards it in the meantime.

Yes I was going to say the same thing... if you are not incognito, every time you refresh the flight page the price goes up ! ahahaha
Another shopping trick I use is to put stuff in my cart and leave it. They will almost always offer a discount, sometimes within a day or two in order to get me to check out.
If you don't need it instantly / there's lots available I also suggest starting the checkout process so they have your email, then abandon your cart. You'll usually get a follow up email within a few hours with a discount.
Caroline I am not kidding when I say you consistently make my life better. These videos are so useful and uplifting and cozy.

Caroline, I owe you one. Actually about $75. I finally decided to make my small boring box of beige bathroom into something cool with wallpaper (after being convinced by makeover videos, also thanks to you). Managed to get a 20% off coupon with some slight sneaking, which is good since wallpaper prices are serious business! Who knows if you will see this but I just had to thank you for the inspiration and support in getting my ass out of this decorating rut.
I've been doing the whole "leave the thing in your basket until they email you a discount code" thing for years. I love it.
For the second hack, also check the delivery costs. Because one site might be 40$ cheaper but has more expensive shipping and the total will cost you more.

Hi Caroline, designer here! Love your videos so much! I can weigh in on the second hack- the retailers you shop (west elm etc) do not generally produce their goods. Most are produced by manufacturers who sell to multiple retailers. The retailers then use the manufacturer's MAP pricing (minimum advertised price) and MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) to price the goods. It's not a conspiracy! Also, be cautious of who you order from, as some retailers (often ones you haven't heard of in your search) are selling seconds (flawed items), knockoffs, using sketchy shipping companies, or have terrible (or non-existent) customer service and policies. The best price is not always the lowest one ; ).

I just ordered a lamp from CB2 (discount didn’t apply as it was already on sale). One thing I’ve learned is that if you use a VPN, sometimes airline tickets are cheaper if they think you are shopping from another country.

Great hacks, I do this too! I would add: just make sure that when you go into make the purchase it’s a reputable website. There are a lot of fake websites that use stolen images and product descriptions for items that make it look legit. So you may never get your item you paid for. Loved the video!
You can sign up for a Google Voice number and use that number for the texts. I use my Google Voice number for all internet forms....so much better. 😊

Pro tipp: create another e-mail account just for those kinds of stuff (newsletter registrations for discounts, online raffles, freebies etc.)
I do this stuff ALL the time!! Also there's Rakuten (in Canada, maybe you have it in the US?) and if you shop the retailer through their portal, not I ly can you still apply the discount code for the retailer, but Rakuten gives you a % CASH back for your purchase. 2nd tip: I've noticed with some clothing retailers, if you buy something they give you a discount code *after* your purchase, to use within a cerain timeframe so you go back to them and keep shopping there... beat them at their greedy game by not buying multiple things at once. 🤑
But then you have to pay for shipping twice and any savings is likely canceled out by it. Also creates more packaging and waste :/
@@striketochill I forgot to mention this! I try to opt for retailers where I can pick up at a location near me. Usually clothing retailers will show stock quantities too. I've bought clothing, got the discount, got the cash back, tried on in store when I went to pick up and only kept what I wanted.
@@lllovesalll Good tip! I looove buying online and getting the deals but then picking up in store. Instant gratification haha. I do that for Target a lot and it also helps prevent unnecessary spending for little things you see while shopping in store. (Target is esp notorious for getting us with that one haha!)
I had never heard of this tips! I tend to thrift as much as I can (mostly for sustainability concerns but its also a good way to save money, and I like the randomness of "encounters" finding unique objects that can become statement pieces), but whenever I need to buy something new and on the more expensive side I'll keep these tricks in mind!

There is another secret hack, that doesnt also work with every site, but, if the site has your email already, and you put something in your cart, but dont buy it, leave the site, sometimes the site will email you a coupon and remind you about the item you left in your cart.
Ebay provides this option to sellers. As a buyer if I put something in my cart and leave it there for a while I will sometimes get an email saying that the seller is offering me a special price.

Omg I literally just did the google image search the other day and my mind was blown! I didn't expect the furniture I was searching for to show up on so many different websites. Great hack! I'll definitely be using it while my fiance and I are trying to flesh out more furniture for our house.

I didn’t know how to screenshot for Google image search, but I often google the description of the object and see who else has it. I just bought a Free People jacket for $60 that I almost paid $190 for. That’s such a great tip! ❤️💸💫
That is what I do when the image won't give me results. I use name of item or similar keywords and bingo! Never fails.
Hey All~ a friend of mine that travels a lot said to always search for airline tickets using the incognito screen to avoid being tracked and shown higher costs once they know where you need to go.
This is so right! I've had tickets go from $350 to $500 in the course of a few hours after searching multiple times.

As a marketing and audience strategy professional, along with the coding, companies actually can track where you’re coming from (ad, email) due to cookies or whether you’re a return visitor so that they can feed you particular offers, etc. It’s SO interesting and crazy too.

Does everyone know about "Snipping Tool" on Windows? That "app" allows you to get an image of PART of the screen, if that's what you want. It saves it to a buffer area. I usually open a PAINT window and PASTE it there.

Here's another hack that I discovered by accident. If you add something to your cart and just leave it sitting there for a few days, the store might send you a discount code via email to persuade you to complete your purchase. It's happened to me a couple of times.

I am an interior enthusiast - I have helped my friends with their houses/staging etc but am not a professional, and I find the way you explain things so user-friendly and easy to adapt. I live in NZ, so our furniture options are much smaller than the US (incl thrifting), so it's really inspiring to have design principles being shown that isn't based on being rich or having access to certain shops. You can just right click and do search with Google lens or whatever. I know both of these tricks. I feel like such an expert
Awesome tips! Also Google has baked the function into google search. That little multicolored camera icon in the search input field is google image search. You can just pick up and drag desired image on top of it from your search results or click the camera first. Your choice. You don't need to screenshot or save the image anymore. Also, hovering over an image from your google search results in Chrome and right clicking (for all you non Mac users) will give you the option to search the image via google lens. This route will give you similar results.

I'm personally a fan of using the Chrome extension Honey that tries all of the coupon codes that other people have used and sticks u with the one with the most savings!

Nick Lewis has a great video about your second tip. I think they’re called ‘White Label’ when a big manufacturer sells their goods to multiple companies. He also has good tips on how to be sure it’s the same item (like check country of origin).

Fellow ecommerce developer, it’s based on the cookies I think (or it can be). And since that algorithm is hard for people to set up, even if they can access it (probably not on a template-based platform) a lot of sites just use JavaScript and show it based how long you’ve been on the site.

I've noticed that if I add things to my Amazon wish list I start seeing discounts applied on the things that have sat there for awhile, especially if I keep going back and looking at it. I got a discount of more than $120.00 on a book that has been priced as high as $340.00, and I'm currently being wooed to buy a large ceramic plant pot (with mid century style wooden stand). I'm teasing them until I get my price point. Online haggling is really fun if you are willing to wait.
