I can see why some people may not dig this pedal. It isn't a straight up "plug N play" pedal. However, when you understand how the controls work, you can be rewarded with some excellent tones. You just have to be patient with it and learn it's ins and outs. I'm working on a video to help new owners of the Fuzz Factory get the best out of it. I love mine and think it's the coolest thing ever. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers

Absolutely well said. I have one of the hand painted ones and it does take some tweaking. Humbuckers will respond way differently than single coils. I've noticed texas specials and seymour hot rails pickups play nicely with this. I've gotten some fantastic lead sounds paired with an Abominable electronics Haunting Pools. The fuzz factory is one of those pedal that's stayed on my board AFTER I unlocked its potential :)

Ok, so yesterday I finally understood how to use the pedal and I think the biggest hurdle people need to get over is the fact that, I order to get decent settings, you can't just move the knobs independently. Here's my quick tutorial for the pedal.
    "normal fuzz settings"
    - Turn down gate and comp to minimum. Turn up stab to maximum. Only mess with vol and drive.
    "gated/underpowered fuzz"
    - Start turning down stab. Compensate with gate if self oscillation appears.
    "blown guitar signal"
    - Start turning up comp. Compensate with gate if self oscillation appears.
Anytime there's self oscillation in the signal, try messing with the gate, comp and stab settings. They're all interconnected, so if you mess with one and want to avoid noise, you'll probably need to mess with at least one of the other two to make it go away. Or just keep the noise! There are no rules!
And that's it. Now take these guidelines mix, match and have fun!

I didn't know the Fuzz Factory one month ago. I discovered the pedal in your video and watched others, then I really thought I should have one ! Instead of buying one I decided to build one using 2 germanium AC125 NOS transistors, it took me 3 days. I added 2 controls to the existing 5 ones to get even more new sounds. My first DIY pedal. My BEST FUZZ pedal EVER ! I almost haven't stopped playing it for the last 4 days ! And I own tons of pedals, many EHX including the tube version Hot Tubes and the vintage one, Ibanez TS, a rare vintage Top Gear Fuzz, Beetronics, Sansamp, Digitech, Big Muff's, silicon, op amp and Jfet fuzz... Thank YOU SO MUCH for this video, crazy to think I discovered in 2021 a pedal invented in 1995 using 1950's technology ! -Still understand why you don't like it it's your best pedal ! ;-) La meilleure pédale fuzz au monde !

    • @harounel-poussah6936
      @harounel-poussah6936 Před 2 lety

Actually, the Fuzz-Factory is a Fuzz-Face with more knobs. You can even make the IdontGiveAFuck (IDGAF) Factory by EatYourGuitar which has 8 knobs...
I have an original Fuzz Factory for about 10 years, to be frank, it's nice to make weird noises, BUT :
1.) Too many possibilities => we'd need Medea, Vintage Solutions or maybe TC to make a programmable version of the IDGAF (rather than the FF)
2.) Pots are too reactive. 5 turns multiturn pots would be needed for all the over-reacting commands.
3.) One of the very few REALLY USEFUL ways to tune it is as a Fuzz-Face... I think that you can get a MusikDing Fuzz Face '69er (4 knobs, Fulltone mod?) as a kit for about €25... Might be way more useful, so is it for the Aion DSOTM : a Si-FuzzFace with 3 knobs (Cornish mod?). The fact is that the Fuzz-Factory is too unmanageable except at being a weird-noise box.
4.) Actually, if you're into pot-twindling, the EHX Germanium 4 Muff is WAY MORE USEFUL : you'll be able to replicate near all germanium fuzz ever made and do more, thus, I'd like to have a programmable BMGe4 too, but because it has so many sweet spots possible that the BMGe4 can have at least 64 presets you will love to use, while, for the Fuzz-Factory, memories would help saving the few nice one you'll find and recall the Fuzz-Face when not doing weird noises.
So... "La meilleure pédale fuzz au monde !"... Oui, mais pour la Muff Germanium4...
And I own both (the originals, not copies) for 10+ years now... But I think I'm gonna sell the Fuzz-Factory : I can also do weird noises with my MoogerFooger collection (all models, and MF-104Z delay is doubled), at least I can control these using MIDI-CC through the Doepfer MCV24...
I'm also considering selling all my vintage pedals since prices are sky-rocketing and I can replicate them and, moreover, put 'em all into 19x14" 1U rack enclosures. Maybe will I build the IDGAF and include it...
I also highly consider the re-casing of the Foogers: I have enough of having a pedalboard larger than Frusciante's...

Just had mine delivered, hand painted year 2012 made, plugged in and pretty much had the same experience.... so I definitely see the humor in your vid. However, this wild beast can also create some of the finest sounds a fuzz pedal can produce but you have to really get to know it and be patient. I love the glitchyness, I like being challenged and offered opportunities to be creative and Zvex FF offers that. Its not for everyone and to me, that's great, some people just want to plug in their fuzz face and Hendrix the days away, let them go I say! I want to grab a pedal and think to myself holy crap, what am I going to create with this thing, and not think, jeez I frickin sound just like that old so and so from yesteryear! But, definitely a funny take on the FF but only if you have the privilege of owning one, an "in joke" so to speak. BTW, you almost ruined Cherub Rock for all of us and that definitely is not funny. Well, I actually got mine because of the tone I get. It's a fuzz, yes, but with enough mid range to cut through the mix. Yes, you can get a lot of funny, boring, or useless sounds out of it. You can get creative and make magic but I sincerely don't have the time to experiment AND play, so I leave it at the setting I like and save the awkward stuff for an alternate future where I don't have to work 10 hours a day.

Its ok if you hate it. it doesnt change anyone whose heard it opinion. its not an outspoken bunch of folks who dislike it (probably cause people lose their shit over saying anything bad) but there are plenty of people who dont see how this is a fully priced much beloved pedal. Everyones got their opinion. im glad youre voicing yours. Its really hard to buy gear online cause of how all the reviews are not really reviews but advertisements. hearing from the people who honestly dont like it is usually more informative, even if i do end up liking it cause it matches my style. keep up the good work sir. i salute you. by the way, you look like youre having fun there a little to me.

I owned a fat fuzz factory and taken it on many a gig and a couple tours, love it to death and recommend it to every guitarist I know as the most versatile and tuneable fuzz ever.
That being said, this made me die laughing because I have seen friends who prefer a plug-n-play option like a fuzzaface test out my fuzz factory during a jam and been completely baffled. I totally get it.
A helpful tip, Robert. This is a fuzz you have to sit down with a cup of coffee for a couple hours and get to know. Once you learn what each knob does, it is mind-blowingly epic in scope and superlative in tone. I really think you'll love it.

Très belle pédale, joli son de fuzz typique des transistors au germanium avec possibilité de surcharge extrême. It would be interesting to connect one or two controls to an expression pedal for foot controlled oscillations. I was listening to videos from the Chase Bliss & ZVEX The Bliss Factory which is a 600€ pedal that I don't like at all but I discovered this one and like it very much. As the schematic diagram is quite simple and easy to find I think I'll build one by myself with a customised output for an expression pedal.
