On Sunday, January 9, 2022, a most touching moment took place at the funeral and burial of the late Central Bougainville MP, Hon. Sam Akoitai.
Bougainville President, Hon. Ishmael Toroama, presented the Bougainville and Papua New Guinea flags from the flag-draped coffin to the late MP’s son, Nathan Akoitai. Under a grey Bougainville sky, Nathan Akoitai held the flags to his heart, and tears started rolling down his eyes.
