From The Feathers Hotel to the Butter Cross to Ludlow Castle itself, you find Ludlow steeped in history everywhere you look!
In this video we will take you through Ludlow Town Centre and show you everything from Castle Lodge, to Ludlow Market, St Laurences Church and more.
We will head down Castle Street, Castle Square, Market Street, King Street, Bull Ring and more and show you the little shops, hotels, restaurants and pubs and inns from The Feathers Hotel to The Bull Hotel, Ye Olde Bull Ring Tavern, to The Fish House. It's all here in Ludlow Shropshire!
Ludlow is a market town in Shropshire, England. The town is significant in the history of the Welsh Marches and in relation to Wales. It is located 28 miles south of Shrewsbury and 23 miles north of Hereford, on the A49 road which bypasses the town. The town is near the confluence of the rivers Corve and Teme.
Ludlow is a thriving medieval market town and an architectural gem with a lively community feel, busy with events and festivals throughout the year. The historic town centre and the 11th century Ludlow Castle are situated on a cliff above the River Teme and are surrounded by the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh Marches. Ludlow is an excellent base for walking and cycling; as well as exploring the rest of Shropshire and the Welsh Marches.
Ludlow has a reputation for the quality of its food and drink with many excellent restaurants and cafes encouraged by the areas abundance of quality food & drink producers. This is showcased every September when the town is filled with food lovers from all over the UK, and beyond for the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival
Ludlow has many things to offer - from walking the streets of this historic town and visiting Ludlow Castle and St Laurence's Church, to a meal at one of Ludlow's restaurants. Ludlow is also noted for the many events and festivals that take place throughout the year, from the annual Medieval Christmas Fayre and the famed Ludlow Food and Drink Festival.
There are so many tourist attractions here that if you are a travel and tourism enthusiast you'll go crazy with excitement! Ludlow is genuinely one of the loveliest places I've ever visited!

I worked at the Feathers in the mid 1950's for almost 6 months. I was told it was one of the remaining Inns that Henry VIII had sanctioned. That an Inn could not turn away anyone, they had to give the at least bread and water. It sounds very different now. I remember a small town with weekly cattle auctions downtown, 42 pubs and during the second World War surrounded on one side by an American camp and on the other a German prisoner of war camp. I hope the inside is still incredible with carved ceiling in the dining room. There was a lady who did nothing but cleaned all the brass and copper, it took her all week, and then she started again, next week. The people came from all over the UK, Europe and USA. THE Christmas Holidays were fantastic.

My late parents lived in Ludlow in the early 1980's and had a business in the Buttercross doing clock, watch and scientific instrument repairs. The Church Inn was my local when I visited. A great pub way back then!

I made a comment about the houses in Chester and you said "Just wait til you see Ludlow." You were right. Truly amazing.
Love those blue plaques. There are more here than any English town I've been in. I remember seeing quite a few in Ripon, but not this many. They really tell the story, and in a historic town, that's what people want to see.
I noticed in that cheese shop there was a Yorkshire cheese from Thirsk - the home of James Herriot.
Loved the Feathers! Thanks for a great walk. Oh- I don't know what the sport car at the end was - maybe a McLaren?

The castle is interesting with a great history but is pretty derelict. For a more intimate experience in the same area try Stokesay Castle (a fortified mansion house) outside the enticingly named town of Craven Arms just up the road from Ludlow. 😊

Fascinating tour of this stunningly beautiful, historical place! I watched in anticipation of a visit here this weekend an I am now even more excited! I am from Worcestershire and would recommend a trip to Worcester. There's the cathedral, the River Severn and crammed full of stunning architecture and quirky side streets. Also loved your Whitby videos, they really gave us a great insight before we went on holiday there over the summer. Such a great channel!

I thought 'oh, he was in Scotland recently so it must be up there' - how wrong I was !! And what an incredible town, I just loved it !! If I manage to get out and about this Spring/Summer I shall defo go there for a day or so, it's just fabulous, and I loved all the coaching inns, but had to laugh when I saw "Old Street" cos I thought "well, they are ALL old" 😁😏🤔😀

If the general audience thinks that it would sound better with an overlay of Mozart or Megadeath they can add it via headphones. Those who beg to differ have no recourse when some Wally has already blighted it! 😱🙄

It does! Although I looked in the windows of the estate agents expecting to see really expensive housing but the homes weren't that expensive compared to the big cities really which surprised me

@@GimbalWalkTV I live in the US but have always had this unexplainable obsession with the Black and Whites, ever since I was little.
This place is total eye candy.
Good to know it hasn't totally gentrified yet, the sports car had me worried. But you never know, it could still happen. The middle class town I grew up in is so gentrified now that you need to earn 6 figures a year to live there. I blame all the old Victorian homes.
      Shhhhh... don't tell anyone it's there. 😆

A few years back a lot of wealthy people from London and the south of England started moving in, Michelin star restaurants started popping up 6 to be precise in this one small town, the problem for them there's no motorways in South Shropshire and Ludlow isn't on rout to anywhere, Ludlow was voted the quietest town in England, the influx of the rich slowed right down and property prices got back to normal, the small cottages in the side streets aren't overpriced.

We live in Ludlow… and it is following the steps of some Cornish villages. Unless Ludlow changes and adapts to bring in younger people, better shops it is doomed. The shops are so overpriced, the gin overrated and overpriced … There is nothing really for the children to do and it’s a shame. It has the castle but it’s not Arundel, it has a great river but does not promote water sports. The forest is great but where is the bike hire? Ludlow needs an infusion of new blood , new modern shops and councillors with vision.. there was a lot of negative feedback from this years food festival and rightly so…. Fingers crossed we can save Ludlow from the past

I live there too, I think that one has to recognize that this is a town that has a highe percentage of retired people, and appeals (quite well) to a certain kind of visitor, without coming over as being at all touristy. I don't think that the shpos are more overpriced than in comparable places. It is neat and well-kept without many of the ugly shop-fronts that one can find in other towns in the area. I can't see it as being 'doomed', I think it will continue in the same way, as a pleasnt place to live in with many relatively prosperous retirees; it is not the kind of place that will ever have a much higher percentage of children being reared there (although I would like that). There is only a short stretch of fairly level river, it would not be practical to have water sports ther other than the occasional canoe. Its attraction lies in it being an attractive place to walk along, with the wooded common behind.
