- Noticed this article, and I wish we had more details about this from Nvidia not just finding out the way we do.
MC got some deals if anyone is interested.
They are defective ad102 dies that cannot be used as a 4090, so they repurpose them at a lower spec by disabling cores.
Just a salvage and monetization operation of defective ad102 dies, its common practice. Just crazy over 50% of the die is disabled, but these are monolithic 609 mm² dies on 4N FinFET.
they hate selling them for what they sell them for in first place when they can convert them to AI and get 10s of thousands for those chips basically they dont care much about gamers any more at all its all about using those cards configured to AI for the big bucks same chips but much more proffits for them , gamers is last on there list nowdays sadly considering they used to be all about gamers
