      Saoirse not all sushi is raw, and eel is literally never served raw in Japanese cooking. It's fairly dangerous to eat uncooked eel.

    • @saoirse5308
      @saoirse5308 Před 8 lety +1

      +Andrew B (IrishRebel92) I get that "not all sushi is raw" My point was that the sushi they tried is the tamest sushi going with the possible exception of the California roll. It is like eating oatmeal and saying you tried Scottish food, a taco bell taco & saying you have tried Mexican food, ketchup on noodles and saying you tried Italian ......it's......it's.......it's like eating Unakyu and thinking you tried sushi. All may be SO....but they just aren't right. The eel in Unakyu is fresh water & you are right it as with almost all fresh water fish is not served raw in Japan. I happen to like Unakyu, but I would hardly call it a representative sample of sushi. I would bet you a kirin they thought it was what most people think of as "sushi" raw fish.

    I worked in Japanese restaurants for years and it's amazing how people who are not familiar with the culture and the food behave. I remember having a guest send back sushi and complained that the chef was trying to poison her for sending raw food out when she never asked for rare. We threw everything in tempura batter, deep fried the crap out it and served it to her with a side of salad on a large plate. She loved it. Her friends on the other hand, was mortified.

    If you really take the time to seriously watch this video, you'll see that it's actually low-key racist. Using a version of the Oriental Riff -- quintessential Western stereotyping at its finest -- as background music, using freaking forks and knives to eat sushi (now, this may just be me, but seriously -- could they not have just eaten with their hands?), the Godzilla comment, and these people's overall attitude towards Japanese food just rubs me the wrong way, and I'm only part Japanese. The fact that this video is not blatantly racist and offensive doesn't make it okay though. Racism is racism no matter how you spin it.

      1. stereotypes are not inherently racist - some are some are not - they are part of the way humans understand different cultures, by breaking down complex groups of people into simple 'clichés' - all cultures practice stereotyping.
      2. simply using stereotypical music is not racism - its used across all forms of video media to set the scene, if it had been about Scottish food no doubt you would have heard bagpipes.
      3. these peoples attitudes are the whole point of the video, they are trying food they are not used to and expressing their likes and dislikes honestly - not liking another cultures' food is not being racist, its just not liking their food. Even if they'd said "Irish food is better than Japanese food" thats still not racism, its just an opinion on food.
      4. using forks and knives to eat sushi is not the end of the world - not everyone knows how to use chopsticks properly.

      +Skylynxify Reborn +Skylynxify Reborn Be a grownup and eat the food. It's edible, people eat it everyday. If you truly get nauseated from new food maybe don't even try it. Which in that case it's a completely different problem. Trying new foods has a lot to do with emotional maturity same reason why children tent not to like raw foods. Like sushi or things that tend not to be sweet like broccoli or spinach. It's a mental game the same way people can try exotic foods and like them until they realize it's a bug and try to vomit only after the fact. Either way don't spit it out just swallow it.

Best cuisine in the world if you as me. In my experience it's usually people who eat mostly meat and potato who don't like new types of food because they don't experience all types of food growing up. So their palate isn't very developed because it's only known a certain amount of flavors or tastes for their entire life.

    FYI: Eating sushi that way is equivalent to eating a sandwich one layer at a time.
    Also, sushi often has a little bit of wasabi (green colored horse radish) but people who like spicy food add extra,
    The piece of suishi is often dipped in a little bit (enough to taste- not drown) soy sauce (fermented soybean sauce),
    Then the entire piece is eaten in one bite (that's why it's that size).
    After swallowing, have a bite/piece of pickled ginger ( pink if young or dyed- otherwise kinda grey yellow) after the sushi).

    Nicole nailed it - EVERYTHING tastes the same after deep frying.
    e.g. Try deep frying a lightly battered hockey puck. Serve with dipping sauces and Sriracha. YUMMY! (Works for turds, too. AFAIK).

    • @Temperdoodle

      There are a variety of miso options, which result in slightly different looking miso soups. I prefer red miso, so my miso soup tends to have a darker, richer color than what was shown here. There is also white miso though, which had a lighter color and, if in remembering right, a somewhat lighter taste. I haven't had white miso paste in ages though so I could be mistaken. Either way, you're probably just used to a darker miso. Though with how little research this video seemed to have, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they used a less than ideal brand of miso, or if they made it incorrectly.

    • @morisoba2550
      @morisoba2550 Před 8 lety +7

      That's not the point... I'm Japanese and like all these foods. The point is that Irish people who use to eat fatty meat or Western food are not suppose to like seafood or miso soup with seaweed.
      In Japan many kids prefer meat or Western food to traditional Japanese food. But when they get older most of those kids will love traditional Japanese food such as miso soup, eel and raw fish.

    I think it was really good that they tried something new, even if the didn't like it. And I find it very rude that the people in the comments are complaining that their doing stuff wrong, but you have to realize that some of them have never eaten it before, or used chopsticks before. and also before you guys start commenting back, I'll state that this is just what I had to say, but your entitled to yours to. so have a good day. \(@_@)/

    • @okamichan02
      @okamichan02 Před 8 lety +2

      I agree that it was their first time, but the Facts team should have warned them how to eat the sushi, specificaly the fact that you eat it whole.
      Furthermore there are chopsticks with elastics for people that do not know how to use them correctly, but even without chopsticks they can eat sushi with their hands since its another correct way to eat it (except sashimi ofc).
      Some people are being rude about this yes, but if you search some other people are just stating that it was wrong and they should have researched a bit. But alas, this is the internet, you will get negative and positive critics either way. :) Ignore the rude people and concentrate on the ones that are polite and know what they're talking about.

      @StripperLicker Před 8 lety +1

      okamichan02 That's the point, twatwaffle. Aren't you smart enough to get it?
      Some take the view chopsticks are wrong. Some say the entire piece only must go in the mouth. No taking bites. And on and on. It's all mental masturbation, ego and elitism.
      You are no better, even though you think you are so balanced and educated with your comment. It's silly. You suggested they do it differently, but with a method that is still controversial to certain elitist. But your less hardcore elitism is better? Compare and contrast those. You can't see the foolishness? Really?

    Miso soup isn’t only delicious, it’s also a more potent cure all than chicken soup. I once almost called out of work with a cold, but I had a bowl of miso soup for lunch and felt fine.
    Eel is excellent in sushi. I’m a particular fan of unagi, caterpillar roll (eel and cucumber wrapped in avocado), and yin yang roll (eel and octopus), at my favorite sushi restaurant.
    Gyoza is pork dumplings, shouldn’t be an issue. Shumai is steamed shrimp dumpling though.
    Sea bass, don’t know if I’ve had that one.
