Works great, just as described. Couple notes: The glue holding the Hard Drive to Motherboard cable to the case was pretty strong. Be careful prying it off that you don't hurt it. The Motherboard side under the connector was NOT supported by anything on my computer, so be careful not to hurt the motherboard while manipulating the clasp for the HDD cable. The MB to HDD cable has tabs on it, which also go into the connector. There are places for the tabs to go, so you can't mess it up unless you don't recognize this. After installation, it doesn't just pop up with the native drive. You have to go into "manage storage" in Settings and tell the Computer how to designate it (Typically "D:" since "C:" is the native one with the OS. Refer to this designation to store things there. A trick I Iearned from my Granpa is to spin the screw GENTLY backwards (under gentle pressure) until you feel a "click." Once you feel this "click" you KNOW that the screw threads are lined up correctly: NO Cross Threading! 😁👍
At the end before screwing the 10 screws back in I would turn the laptop over, boot it, and check that the new hard drive is actually recognised by the BIOS/Windows. Saves having to take them out again if you've done something wrong (which is what I did, I didn't place the flexible cable onto the motherboard properly).
This was like so easy and perfect in all aspects to do. Tried following another unboxing video but I ran into a great deal of troubles as my harddrive didn't even come with the harddrive screws and had to improvise. Luckily I had another Harddrive in a Laptop Computer laying around which I took out and got the screws for them. Only two but it sufficed better than none.

If you buy an Asus or HP laptop, they will not come with the HDD mounting bracket and sata connectors. Also the parts are not easily available. It is very hard even to find where to buy them. But Acer has done well. They care for their customers!!!
Why 9mm drives are not supported? I saw a review in amazon where the buyer posted pics from A515-43-R19L with a Samsung HM160HI drive installed. I googled its specs which says it is 9.4mm. I bought the same A515-43-R19L and could successfully install an old Samsung HM250HI which is 9.5mm according the specs I googled. That 9mm drive I have does fit. Certainly, it is not in a completely loose space, but it is not that it cannot be installed because physically does not fit. The only thing is that the keyboard in its numeric area was slightly raised and that is barely noticeable. Or is there a problem that could generate? Thanks for your answer :)
i just installed an old 9.5mm WD hdd and now that you mention it my enter and 4 keys are slighlty bulged up. I wouldnt have noticed it if you didnt mention it. I cant think of any issue other than poor heat dissipation... how's your hdd doing?
Bruh i didnt disconnect my battery and ehen i touched a pin to another pin it stsrted smoking literally. So i have learnt my lesson, it takes like 30 secs to disconnect
So this isn’t really related to the hard drive installation but I’m having a problem with my battery. When I plug in the power adapter my battery lights turn on but there’s like a squeaking or whistling noise I can hear when I plug it in. Sometimes my battery lights flicker and the screens brightness dims and gets brighter. I have the same laptop.
you can see at 1:04 the ssd slot in the top left hand corner an ssd already in place. for more specific details on which connector it is (SATA/etc), best to boot up your bios and u can see what's the connector type on the disk drives... once you know what type of form factor it supports, you can buy the relevant one!

I have this very computer (Aspire A515-43) and installed an additional hard drive (Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD) exactly as per the instructions in this video. Everything went perfectly smoothly. Now that I have booted up the computer, however, I do not see the new SDD in the Windows File Explorer. When I click on "This PC" in file explorer, I am only seeing the original SSD which came with the computer, and not the second SDD which I just installed. How to fix this or trouble shoot it?

they are just the same std screws used in many many many comps for yrs just these use a vhead and even those are very common you shouldnt have any issues getting suitable screws dirt cheap or free from most real comp stores (worstbuy etc are NOT a real comp store) My workbench for example i have containers with various screw types etc and the kind needed here I have at least a few hundred spares just on the main bench alone lol

OS or not os is irrelevant to the cable either the cable is good enough or its not and dual boot using the m2 is better due to speed alone then use std sata ssd for larger storage thats cheaper.. and always do your backups of the M2 or whereever you have OS's installed etc onto a different PHYSICAL drive (not just an alt partition) As for space w10 is an abhorrent piece of shit beyond belief and technically is NOT an OS at all it is a service that you agree to get fuked by dumping it and running w7 is better or if you want new security updates officially use a w8.1 install with classic shell to make it look/act like 7 or run Chrome OS or Limux mint etc tons of viable options available as for m$s bs attempt to outlaw using w78 on newer processors etc not only is that BS illegal but there is an easy workaround avail for free so m$ attempt to force w10 on ppl once again is foiled for all our benefit

Yes, sorry if this answer was too late for you, but the motherboard is exactly the same. I followed the exact same process with the a515-43-r19l and it worked like a charm.
Ensure that the drive is installed correctly. Check if the drive is showing up in the bios. Otherwise, it sounds like you need to allocate the space to the new drive. Follow this guide to format the drive www.windowscentral.com/how-format-new-hard-drive-windows-10 . You usually have to do this with all new drives.
@@ollypiper8847 added m2 ssd on my laptop and wanted to use my old hard drive for storage. they both show up in bios, but old HD doesn't on windows or file explorer or disk management. There's just one disk (C).
There is one M.2 slot already used up by the original drive. To replace this you would have to transfer over the operating system to a new drive but would need access to another computer. A tricky task and it would be simpler to just add a SATA drive. Assuming you have data you want to keep.
I put 16gb (2x8gb) of corsair vengeance 2666mhz in mine, made so much difference with certain games and general user experience with multiple windows and tabs

You have to go into disk management, create a simple drive "D", and format it NTFS. so it can be seen by windows

Don't underestimate that cable. That one can handle 6Gbps if you use 2.5 inch SATA SSD.

Search "Disk Management" on the computer to format the drive first, it'll show up as an unformatted disk. right click & format.

just check the exact model drive thickness since there is a 7mm limit (most 2.5" ssds are thin enough though not all)

All new disk drives need to be formatted by Windows. However, you should not need to reinstall Windows.

Ensure that the drive is installed correctly. Check if the drive is showing up in the bios. Otherwise, it sounds like you need to allocate the space to the new drive. Follow this guide to format the drive www.windowscentral.com/how-format-new-hard-drive-windows-10 . You usually have to do this with all new drives.
@@ollypiper8847 added m2 ssd on my laptop and wanted to use my old hard drive for storage. they both show up in bios, but old HD doesn't on windows or file explorer or disk management. There's just one disk (C).

I added a 16gb Crucial SODIMM 2400 from Newegg. I left the 4gb Samsung 2666 SODIMM in place. So 20gb about $50 running great.

There is one M.2 slot already used up by the original drive. To replace this you would have to transfer over the operating system to a new drive but would need access to another computer. A tricky task and it would be simpler to just add a SATA drive. Assuming you have data you want to keep.

I put 16gb (2x8gb) of corsair vengeance 2666mhz in mine, made so much difference with certain games and general user experience with multiple windows and tabs
