The scene where everyone leaves after the mini prom and Nickand Charlie close the front door, its as if they're already married and this is their home and their friends just left after a dinner party. So warm and wholesome.😊

When Isaac sees the art piece and when he picked up the book and held it against his chest, he got leaves!!! I think this is the sign that Isaac now understands, loves, and embraces himself and his sexuality...that it is something on his terms and he doesnt have to compare himself, his feelings, and his sexuality with anyone else's. Loving himself is his equivilent to the others' romantic relationships and is valid in his happiness.

One of my favorite parts of the art piece scene is that Isaac's "Heartstopper moment" is a glow of yellow going into his throat, like when Ariel gets her voice back in The Little Mermaid. It's such a cool way to symbolize him finding the words to describe how he feels.

Nick's tears broke me. It's devastating to find out that someone you love is self harming. Whether it's a partner, a friend or, in my case, a child. You feel utterly helpless. All you want to do is take that pain away, carry it yourself. That last scene was heartbreakingly beautiful, and while both actors were amazing, Kit's performance was off the charts. Absolutely off the charts.

They snuck a really sweet detail into the scene at Nick’s house where they have, as you say, “their own little prom.” Nick being the host and hugging EVERYONE on their way out the door as they leave feels like an important step for him. He’s spent so much of the series figuring out how to be comfortable in his own skin. And in the process, he’s found “his people”. This community talks so much about “found family” I think it’s wonderful they show that he’s sort of recognized that he’s found his ❤️

I totally agree the way Kit can make you feel what Nick is going through without saying a word just by he's body language is pure talent, Joe is an amazing actor also and their chemistry is insane, the rest of the cast are equally amazing for such young actors who are just starting. I hope the industry is kind to them, and doesn't take away who they are as its happened to so many. Kit is going to be in high demand also. Lets support them and I hope they have strong support to keep them from the destructing claws of the industry. I wish them all the best. Hearties forever. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

I see an Oscar in both Kit and Joe’s future…the fact this show was the first role ever for Joe is a credit to the natural talent he was born with…Kit…his facial expressions, cadence of how he carries himself and even in the way he speaks…evokes such a powerful response…they both beautifully blur the lines between reality and fiction so effortlessly that you almost don’t feel like you’re watching a show on Netflix…that you’re just a fly on the wall in their lives…I definitely feel like on a very personal level that Kit’s own sadly forced public outing due to pressure by the so called “fans” really affected his performance in many ways…it helped him tap into what the character overall was really feeling and going through…I look forward to next season, even if I know it’s going to get more emotional…but as I have said before in reference to the show on other comments on other platforms…this story is so important and has to be shared…good or bad…it can’t always be rainbows and sunshine…we have to share the truth of the effects that negative reactions to the lgbtq+ has on them…not everyone has the support and community and even if they do…they still may have an inner struggle we know nothing about just from one person saying something deplorable to them…it only takes one bad comment or interaction to affect someone’s mental health for years to come

My favorite Nick/Charlie kiss, and in this season there were many, was the one Nick gave to Charlie's forehead after Charlie promised to tell him if things ever got bad enough that he thought about self harm. It was the most pure, the most tender, and the most loving. It was as if Nick was cradling Charlie's head in his hands and trying to help sooth and comfort Charlie's cruelly wounded mind with a healing kiss.
    Beautifully acted.

Nick & Tao's conversation, how closer and comfortable they've become with each other allows them to share their concern & insecurities. Like Nick expressed his worries about Charlie's struggle with his past trauma, that you can hear from his voice like he almost broke into tears. Then Tao opened up about his fear of losing the people he deeply loves. This scene alone makes me sob everytime, not just because we finally learnt about their fear, but also because how far they've become & grow into each other through these two seasons.

Fun fact that I’m going to point out every single time now because I’m obsessed: when Nick first sees Charlie in his suit, the globe on the left goes from being off to lit up because he’s his whole world 😭🥹
Edit: and for anyone that didn’t know, the singer at the prom is Baby Queen!!! Y’all should go listen to her music because it’s really good! She sings Colors of You, Dover Beach, the iconic song at the start of season 1, and several others in this series!

100% agree with your last comments about the show. I truly do not understand the amount of hate this show is getting! This is hands down the best lgbtq+ show I’ve ever seen. The story line is nothing like these other overly sexualized with tragic ending shows/movies out there. Should I read the books? 😭

  • @shannancox6632
    @shannancox6632 Před 10 měsíci +20

I've watched S2 at least a dozen times and watched tons of reactors and that last scene kills me every time. Charlie's storyline is difficult in the books, but there is just something about seeing in play out before our eyes, with Kit and Joe's incredible performances, that just hits ten times harder. Knowing what is coming, and how amazing those two are, I'm both ecstatic to see it and dreading it.
This season has been masterful in emotional whiplash. Charlie passing out is immediately followed by the long awaited kiss between Tao and Elle. The gorgeous home prom with this beautiful friend group goes right into us learning just how deep Charlie's pain is. There's so much to be said about queer representation, but I think what really gets me on an emotional level is the quality of the writing. Life is messy and challenging, even more so if you're queer, and Alice doesn't shy away from that. She shows that friendship and found family is so, so important and that you can do hard things when people love you and support you. I kind of feel bad for people who haven't read the books, because the darker turn this season after the more bubblegum pop of S1 must have been a bit of a shock.
I've really, really enjoyed your reactions and how real and honest you've been. You cried in all the same places I did and I wished I could reach through the screen and warn you that your heart was about to be crushed before the last scene. I look forward to your wrap up and all the future flailing about S3!

I haven’t read the books yet ( they are coming soon!) and I’m not ready for the emotional roller coaster I’m going to be on, I already balled my eyes out watching this show and from what I hear it’s really sad\dark, I know a bit of it from watching reactions from people who read the book but I’m still not ready😭. This show is so amazing and broke me, even tho I’m not queer I can understand and see what queer people have to go through and it breaks my heart to know we in 2023 still have mean people out there who make these people feel like crap and hate themselves is sad and upsetting. I really hope we can move forward and treat queer people as just normal people who has feelings just like straight people do! As the words of Harry styles Treat People With Kindness!!

Did you notice the cute little detail with the globe in the scene when Nick & Charlie are getting ready for prom?
When Charlie asks Nick to close his eyes before entering - the globe is still dark.
After Nick opens his eyes, the globe is lit up - like if it is saying "Charlie lights up Nick's world".

Jackie-Ross: you wear your heart on your sleeve, and I'm all here for it. Your own story has not been an easy one and it's gratifying to see the issues and their resolutions in Heartstopper resonate so strongly with you. That a show can move the viewer the way this one does is a credit to the care and skill involved. Alice Oseman ensures the integrity of the story and characters - thank God she's involved! One key factor in favour of this adaptation is that there's plenty of room to expand the brevity of the graphic novel format into a more fleshed-out series with additional details and nuances. With most book adaptations, so much has to be eliminated. Like season 1, this season has gone by in a flash and leaves us breathless for #3. At least it will give you sufficient time to recover!
BTW, I understand it took Kit and Joe 7 hours and many takes to shoot that final scene. Such dedication . . . the result was worth it. Their hugs and tears are next level.

I really can’t express how much I appreciate your honest & vulnerable reactions. I still cry such deep tears during the last scene, even though I’ve watched the series through over and over again. Your content makes a difference in my life, whether you see this comment or not. I’m a 40+ yr old person who never had any kind of knowledge or representation in my teens & 20’s. It just wasn’t even a conversation, let alone identity exploration. I didn’t know it was even an option to explore. And my Eating Disorder was just another piece that wasn’t spoken about except to say “wow, you’ve lost so much weight!”
Like so many, I wish this show had been around then, which is why I think it’s such a huge part of my sexual identity journey of discovery and healing. Thank you for being you and sharing yourself with all of us who are so lucky to find you here. 💜🍂

Thank you Jackie for the breakdown of this episode and every other episode you break it down so beautifully everytime and seeing how you connect with the show is just wonderful! I cannot stop watching the show it's such a beautiful representation of queer love but also tackling the hardships through it too showing it can be beautiful and supportive but just because you come out everything then isn't instantly okay there's other things to tackle and navigate and I wish I had nothing more than a beautiful friendship group thats so accepting like their group when I was at school and I think that's why I watch it constantly because it makes me smile laugh and cry all in one and it's just so beautifully pieced together and the cast are just so incredible and the way they connect with the character they play is just absolutely astounding.
Your reaction videos have slowly become a firm favourite also (I can't tell you how many times I've watched them🙈) thank you for sharing your reactions and thoughts behind each show you're incredible I'm already excited to see you react to season 3😍🍂🤍

Don’t worry about being in tears, I had tears in my eyes watching both the actual episode and your reaction. Kit and Joe did such an amazing job in that last scene, even just the facial expressions. It kills me when Nick hugs Charlie and his face just crumples with tears. I’ve been a fan of Kit since he was a little kid actor and still think this is his best work ever.👏😭

Darcy's mom pisses me off so much. For all the reasons, but she also is obviously lying to Tara when she says, "Sorry, we don't take cold calls." Because WHO'S first thought when a teenager shows up at your door in formal wear is "Oh, you must be here to sell something." She just didn't want to deal.

I normally stay away from reaction videos but I came across yours and I was smitten with your heart, so I HAD to binge both seasons. I felt embarrassed for how much I love Alice’s work as a 40 yr old, but you validated my own reactions and made me feel ok to embrace the missing piece of my own youth. Darcy and I shared similar stories ( not just our names) and today I asked my daughter if she felt that I supported her when she came out because I had been thinking about your S1E8 video and hoped she felt the love neither of us were shown during that time. Again thank you for opening your heart to us. Now I’ve got to add some of the other series you react to to my watchlist.

Did you also notice the paralel between Harry arriving at the prom, and the bullying scene in season 1?.
Harry comments how Nick broughtva biyfriend to the prom, and none of them brought girls. In this scene though, it was just a matter of fact comment, lacking and of the vitriol from the bullying scene. Then, as opposed to in the cinema, the rugby lads come to Nick, rather than being behind Harry. I think this is a great way to show the shift in attitude from the whole Rugby team.

First off, another brilliant and very heartfelt reaction; that last scene has had the same effect on myself and every reactor I've watched, total silence. It's, as you said, just too powerful to interrupt or pause, the emotion being as raw as it is in that scene.
Secondly, to your point about people saying the show isn't good or not representative. I am, as one might say, an Elder Gay having come out at 12 in 1975 (imagine if you will what that was like) and I had a similar interaction with someone who was 22 yo. He went on about how it doesn't do enough and so on and then asked what I thought of it. So I told him that such a show was not even a concept when I was 22 and that it was an immense pleasure to see Queer stories being told that didn't involve violence, AIDS, death or any of the other ugly scenarios our stories usually involved. He responded "it's still not enough". I was floored and then had to remind him that my generation, the one that did a lot of the heavy lifting for queer rights in the 70's 80's and onward, fought for the rights and dignity of ALL queer people, not just the flavour of the month or those who decide what or who is in vogue. Of course he didn't understand, so I dumbed it down for him and simply said "Gatekeeping is not something you or anyone else has the right to do where our stories, representation and/or portrayal are concerned." Suffice to say he finally clued in.
Apologies for the rant, but Gatekeeping is something I just can't abide.

Love all of your assessments on why this show is so important. I believe portrayal of innocence is frowned upon, and thats such a shame. It reminds me of this clip of Mr Rogers speaking at a hearing of some sort on children's programming/funding and how his speech moved a particular senator. He touched how you can show conflict to youth in a non violent way and so much more that is so beautiful to me. He was such a champion of love and learning and community. Makes me cry to this day whenever I see it!
Also! This is the second show I've watched with ace representation, with Sex Education being the first! The particular character who was ace wasn't a main ensemble member but it was such a beautiful scene in season 2 that made my little ace heart squeal!. Highly recommend the show for so many queer storylines as well if you have not seen it yet!

Hello Jackie, I have been watching your reactions for a time, and I have loved them. But, after seeing this reaction I subscribed to your channel.
Dear friend, I have cried with you in this reaction, since it has made me experience many feelings, some of which I have experienced both for better and for worse.
But at the end of the reaction, when Charlie tells Nick that because of the bullying he has suffered several times he has hurt himself by cutting himself, he has destroyed me; and that has been intensified by watching the moment when Nick hugs Charlie and starts crying as he hugs him. At that moment you realize that Nick suffers when discovering that Charlie has experienced and suffered alone; and I could not stop crying when I see Nick have his tears run down his cheek. God, that was a blow, because you realize that Nick's character not only empathizes, but you see that he hurts deeply because he really loves Charlie.
I loved your reaction and I will continue to watch your channel from now on. I send you a huge hug from Buenos Aires - Argentina.

One commentor noted the very end of the last scene. After Nick closes the door when Charlie leaves, he has a look of terror on his face.
Perhaps he is overwhelmed by what Charlie has told him. Could he see Charlie's major mental health issues and what they could mean? After all, Nick is just a 16 yo kid.

Someone suggested we call ourselves Hearties. Alice Thank you. Thank you also Jackie I cried and lol with you. And all involved in bringing Alice's work to life, i feel like I found this amazing family also, we are Hearties forever. We will need each others support season 3 will be very emotional. I love the praise for Alice and the quality of the show/adaptation in general. I’ve only read a little of the comic/graphic novel, but I can already tell that your statement about the show elevating and improving on the comic is correct, based on how Alice and the cast and other creatives have talked and written about the process of making it, and all that has gone into it. Not only have they rounded it out, but Alice specifically has expanded a setting into a world, made every character move through it in their own life story, and perfected the plots for the medium that (historically) comes into people’s homes every night to sit with them in their family room. You said in your reaction to Red, White, and Royal Blue that you prefer TV to movies because of the time spent with each character’s development, and I agree! The decision to make Heartstopper a TV series, and to expand and pace it the way Alice has, has made this quite possibly the most important piece of work of their lives. This is a show that is not just going to make the career of the writer, director, leads and featured actors (so that they will have the luxury of being choosy about what other projects to be involved in the rest of their career, at the pace they want, and not have to worry about staying afloat monetarily), but it’s a work with a legacy. It might outlive them (and us). It’s definitely going to change lives, to save lives. It’s very, very important. TV that makes people feel like this, it’s very powerful. I know it must be so exhausting and stressful to make, especially for one person to wrote a whole series, one season at a time! But it’s masterfully done and I’m so grateful for it.

To start off let me say thank you to you for doing these videos your perspective and just passion are so infectious, I started watching this after I just happened on one of your videos and as overdramatic as it sounds you and this show have been life changing. Don’t ever think your just affecting young people as a 51 year old man from literally the middle of America I struggled my whole life with being Bi and basically feeling ashamed of part of myself but just the conversations the love and support this has showed and the representation of Nick and him showing male athletes can be Bi or gay and still do “manly” things was like a cloud being lifted. It makes me wonder what my life would be like if something like this was around when I was young. Sorry for the novel but I just had to tell you how good of a job your doing and how you truly are changing lives

Hopefully it gets more seasons. She seems to think 4 would be enough but there's a lot of story left to tell. Could easily go to 5. But also depends if Netflix will renew. S3 should cover the rest of book 4 and This Winter. Maybe it'll start in on Chapter 7, who knows? I hope Charlie's situation gets a little more attention than in the comic, where a lot is glossed over in these journal recaps. I guess we'll see.
Great video. Thanks for sharing those raw emotions.
