    Unless you are staying on well made trails the multi part sole moldings on some of the boots (indicated by different coloured) sections)mentioned here are best avoided as this introduces weakness and can lead to failure

    I actually prefer Garmont for serious mountain hiking and mountaineering - that said, fitting your feet is key regardless of brand reputation, technical advances, etc. If a highly technical, not at all technical, or anything in between doesn’t comfortably fit your feet, it’s not a good hiking boot for you!

    • @labellaescrima1996
      @labellaescrima1996 Před 2 lety

      Meindl, Alico, Alpine, Salewa, Lowa Tibet, La Sportiva, Hangwa, Zamberlan,(all from Europe) are all great boots to do serious mountain hiking and you are quite right if it does not fit properly no matter the brand you will never enjoy your hiking trips. I have Hangwa, Lowa, La Sportiva, Asolo, Sorel, Scarpa and Diemme and I love them all, although some of them had a big breaking period did not like that too much, they tend to be sturdier and rigid all made of leather also. I also have Salomon 4D GTX, Vasque, Merrell, Keen, Danner, Oboz (but they are not really hiking boots per say) those are the softer ones pretty much no breaking period, so I know my shoe size pretty good and I know what to do if the boot is big (I buy one size up in the winter so I can add some socks and insoles in the boot).

    Definitely dispute your #10 choice. Had 3 pair in 6 months fall apart. The sole came off each time. REI claims that for a bit the Targhee III was their #1 returned boot for defects.

    I'll stick with my Oboz low and mids... solid platform & arch support, which is something that Keens doesn't do much anymore. And Merrels don't hold up very long

      My record for a pair of Merell Moabs is less than three weeks. Been through two pairs of keens in two years, soles wear out on both too quickly and Merrill’s just fall apart.Still looking for that perfect boot. Are oboz a wide boot ?

But I also have Merrell Moab, Lowa Renegade (also very sturdy), Salomon Quest, Keen, Asolo, Sorel (solid), Vasque, Danner, Diemme, La Sportiva, Oboz Sawtooth, I like hiking boots and shoes.

    I bought a vasque boot and the sole came apart. The change was made, but the sole was also separated in the same way.
    I bought the boy a knife, but he absorbed the water like a sponge . I bought merrel moab 20 years ago and it was very good. but i bought it 8 years ago it was so bad. Salomon Quest 4D was very good. The fabric held up well, but the sole wore off quickly.
    I've seen in other people that the north face and Colombia are fragile.
    I think European brands are better in this regard.

    What a poor review on hiking boots. This guy can certainly read from a script and sounds like a shoe/boot salesman. I would of liked the boots to go through essential tests like through water, mud. Up scree. Down hills. Offer Pro’s & Con on a specific boot. I do enjoy reviews that put the boot through the ‘ringer’.

    • @tomformanek3312
      @tomformanek3312 Před 3 lety +1

      You wonder whether they get paid by the manufacturers. At the very least boots need to be broken into hiking, backpacking and winter categories. Not to mention terrain appropriateness.
      Nothing about arch support, metatarsil padding (EVA vs. Polyurethane, insoles), arch support, toe width or durability. Eye candy for non-hikers.

      My Mountain Designs Goretex jacket is of similar vintage, just needs the seams re-taped this year. Good quality, well made gear, should last. Even if it’s more expensive at first.
