Phil is such an underrated actor the way he put so much effort into the post van scene just such a great actor real emotion in that scene as well
So agree- I hope he grows into the void left by Bob Hoskins - so talented given the right roles.
@@simonwells61 well Simon how are you doing these days mate))

Icons”and legends” mods” & rockers” their isn’t a movie or anything like quadrophenia to compare to this movie!!
Yes totally much great acting all through phil with that huge run with his mum played by kate williams powerful stuff wasted on stuff like love thy neighbour she was awesome together in that scene.
Quadrophenia is a brilliant film.
I STILL only wear a Parka Coat with Badges on. Harder to find good ones these days but i will always have one no matter what. And Quadrophenia double vinyl with Jimmy on the cover ... One of my favorite LPs ever might even have to dig it out and hang it on my wall. Purchased in 79 from Woolworths.
Thanks for uploading this video footage.
It’s 22 carrot gold .
It’s brilliant to go back into time like that. .
Proper Brilliant . . Cheers 🍻
Excellent Document from an old Mod from the late 70's and STILL KEEPING THE FAITH !
This was the golden era of movie reviews! Fantastic production.
A very, very underrated film overshadowed by the Mod element and the tacky neo-Moddies who latched onto it. It's a film about life, far, far deeper than the Mod veneer.
Nicely put, from a Rocker.
This is excellent, Sting looks so uncomfortable in all his dance scenes, it's hilarious
Agree. He's a poor dancer and not a great actor, either.
Yeah apparently he couldn’t dance or ride a scooter for toffee
I remember hearing the shots of the dancing legs are Jeff Dexter's as Sting could never get the moves right which is why only his top half is in shot. He also couldn't ride a scooter which is why he's only shown riding very briefly and even then he's dragging his feet which no self respecting mod would do especially if they'd forked out for a new pair to match the suit!
@@seantrelawny8565He also fell off of his Vespa, hence why he has a walking cane stuck in the rear carry rack in the first shot that he's seen in.
Best album of all time bar none
I was in last year of school in 1980 & this movie had as bigger impact on my generation as punk had upon those 5 years older . one of the cooler lads in my year had bought every black sabbath album & had long hair but on realising more & more Girls really dug the new mod thing immediately cut his hair ,got the fishtail parka , the suit & turned up to youth club on a make do scooter & denied ever loving any heavy metal …..& soon got a cool girl with a pixie cut to match. Hello Bod. 😁
Quadrophenia ... classic
Phil Daniels at 14:55 looks like John Lydon. Lydon actually auditioned for the part of Jimmy. The film makers wanted to use him but it never happened. No way could he have pulled it off like Phil Daniels did.
Spider looks more like Lydon lol
The studio wouldn’t insure Lyndon either. That was a huge roadblock
According to Toyah Wilcox John Lyndon did a brilliant audition. He wanted to do the part, but insurance was the problem. I think he could have pulled it off.
@@JohnnyWeissmuller-iw4pl He probably would have. It is hard to imagine another Jimmy besides Phil because he did such a good job.
@@BillyJango We'll never know but I agree Phil Daniels did a great job. I wonder who else auditioned for the part.
Excellent, had never seen this before.
What a gigantic project to make a movie like this
must be weird for sting being taught to dance by his double
Life changing... 🙂
I've just watched this Talking Pictures again, excellent behind the scenes footage. I still haven't got the Making of.. book, does it mention if the footage of Jimmy and the model was ever found?
One of my clearest memories of the film is sitting in the cinema, smoking (although still at school!) and a guy kept trying to say how the scooter sounds had been dubbed in. Very annoying, but it was at the start and he did shut up so I could watch it!
PS: Great to see Jeff Dexter there, but who was the hairdresser trying to claim credit for mod style?
Brilliant film
Fantastic post
QUADROPHENIA class film
That 36 seconds theme at the start is fantastic
Bless you and Cheers
Yeah really enjoyable docu from back in the day. Everything about the film was spot on, but i thought the `We are the mods` chanting was pretty unrealistic and wouldn't have happened back in 64.
Ryan Smith Hi Ryan buy Simon Wells Book facebook.com/pages/Quadrophenia-the-BOOK-of-the-FILM-by-Simon-Wells/ it explains a load of things including your comment this was not scripted and was added by Gary Shail aftet Franc Roddam told him to do something, seriously buy the book it's a brilliant book so much more than the film.
Saturday night fever nicked ideas from Quadrophenia. Interesting concept:)
Dont think so. Saturday night fever started filming in march 77, quadrophenia started filming late 78. Unless you mean the album?
I think every guy that sees Quadrophenia identifies with James Michael Cooper .
The perfect teenage fashion film... brilliant
gReaT film 👍🏼
love the WHO, LIVE CHICAGO
ACE.!!
This film and mcvicar nothing touches them. ‘You can’t whack the whoo’
Who is the model in the photos that Jimmy is looking at in the record booth? Great film
Best British film ever up there with snatch 👍
It’s unreal how many people are influenced by this movie
So true, and I’m actually an American. Quadrophenia was loved in the USA too, great movie
The fllm was set in the late 60s but all the cars in the background were from the late 70S !!!
1964
wow Sting can dance pretty well
Is this programme from 1979?
Yes, This program is contemporary to the film.
I would have a really big problem now as like the mod music but prefer the bigger bikes and long hair and leather jacket look I'm somewhere in between the two lol
Fantastic film. Sting is so sexy in that suit.
The Band never made the movie then
Who is the dance instructor?
Jeff Dexter, who was a favourite hippie DJ in the late '60s. Obviously moved with the times!
You don’t happen to be the NME reviewer “ Swells “ whom in 1984 encouraged us to buy an album with a brilliant title - Tell God I’m Here ! - which was the biggest load of pap I ever stupidly payed for ? 😁👍
How did the film end?
Jimmy kills himself by driving a scooter off a cliff into the water
The opening is the end... Jimmy walks away from the cliff. Only the scooter goes over
mod fashion for girls was grand! very rude this rotter
Quadrophenia was and still is one of the best films ever made in my opinion, liced Phil in 'scum' and 'meantime' also.
I like this documentary but I wish Roger Daltrey wouldn't be so boastful about Quadrophenia.Saturday Night Fever was a masterpiece and the music and acting was much better
than Quadrophenia.Saturday Night Fever and The Bee Gees together made a masterpiece.Quadrophinia was a very good film but not in the same league as Saturday Night Fever.
Also Saturday Night Fever never copied anything from The Who movie as the original 'tribal rites of a Saturday night' which the film originated from was based on a mod anyway and not an American Italian.
Paul nodalo the budgets for the two films were chalk and cheese so to speak.
For the money spent Qdadraphenia wipes the floor by along way fella
Saturday night fever is 10 x better than Quad -------- If you're fucking bent that is
The Who's music ruined the film...prog rock.....then again it mish mashed two genras together...a cult movie...
The Who wrote the thing in the first place.
The most stupid statement ever.
@@nasskhan4543 But charming, I love the failed pretentiousness of talking about "two genras"!
The problem is that they slightly changed the music from the album to make easily digestible for the film but they should have kept the music just how it was from the album as it was much rawer
