    One main item to also consider for heating your shelter, is the amount stove pipe that is inside the shelter. This will somewhat dictate stove size and stove placement. The more stove pipe you can get inside your shelter, the more heat it will generate. The other major item to think about as well, is cooking. When using your hot tent most people will cook on the wood stove. So having a flat top on your stove is very important for cooking. It is easier to put your pots, pans, kettles on the surface with out sliding off. It is much harder to do that with the cylinder type roll up stoves. Titanium is a great material to make a wood stove out of. That is not to say that steel stoves aren't perfectly adequate either. They just take some maintenance for controlling the rust and they have the weight penalty. However if your are hauling your gear in on on a sled or toboggan the weight penalty isn't that much of an issue. One then to consider with back packing stove while winter camping is ease of assembly. In cold weather assembling a stove with lots of small parts that your have to fiddle with isn't much fun. So look for one that can be easily assemble while wearing gloves or mitts.

  • @Roarmeister2

    The advantage of the large stove is that you can fill it with more wood, damper down the intake and flue and it will burn much longer. 2ndly, there is less processing of the wood into smaller pieces which conserves your own energy. And obviously a larger stove will heat a larger space, ideal for small cabins or large canvas tents.
    A baffle in a stove is also quite valuable - it keeps the heat in the firebox longer, the top of the stove provides a more even heat and works well for cooking. The additional heat path helps to eliminate hot ash going up the flue which lessens or eliminates the need for a spark arrestor.

    I built my own tent stove, but it’s designed to burn hard coal and bit coal instead of wood. I think it’s a very handsome design but because of the nature of coal, it’s rather heavy, more complicated, and needs more corrosion resistant ($) materials. Here’s the thing though, a single full load of coal can easily burn for 8+ hours with proper adjustments. It’s a much more reliable heat than wood. I want to make a video about it but I’m nervous about it’s reception haha. It’s still a prototype but that 8 hour burn I got on one fill was insanely impressive.
    I am planning on building a stainless steel version, I have the stock for it, one part (air diffuser/superheater/thing) will be inconel 718 which is a fancy and expensive nickel alloy, but the consistent, high quality heat output of the first one makes me think it’s worth it.

The folding design will make things a lot easier too. The pipe is going to be 2.4" instead of my existing 3" pipe/hole. Would you mess with reducing that or just go with it?

    @Lonewolf 902 -- For your ammo-can stove , wire-wheel all of the rust off , and then apply ''Stove Black'' . Stove Black is designed for keeping large woodburning Kitchen Ranges looking like new . Wear old clothing and rubber gloves when applying Stove Black , if you get it on your clothing it's PERMANENT , and if you get it on your skin it has to wear off . One application usually lasts for several years of usage . --- I've been using it for over 50 years on my 1908 Moore's Merit Kitchen Range .

    Those are some nice looking titanium stoves. I wonder at the durability of those titanium stove pipes? With my luck I would bend one the wrong way on my second trip. Another key takeaway for me was the rapid oxidation on the ammo can. That is a stark contrast to the titanium. Plus titanium colors are very distinctive.

    Damn bruv I wish I had the money to buy just one of those pack stoves...if you ever want to let go of one of those stoves please think of me! Thanks so much for this video bruv! You know your sh#t! Coming from a guy that works with very little money I'd have to save for a couple years to get enough! Anywho thanks for sharing this. Cheers, Jerbs!

    Since the stoves add heat inside the tent, what temperature rating do you use for your sleeping bag? On the safe side, I should probably bring a 20F sleeping bag for when it’s 20F outside, but if it’s going to be 60F+ in the tent and there’s a steady supply of wood, should I just bring my three season sleeping bag instead of buying a winter rated one?

    I'd love to own the first small titanium stove there next to the large one pamaly I think you said it I'm positive that's not spelt right but ok £700s few that'd take me years to save up for then there's the chimney pipe and the spark arrester I'd be cold tent camping a mighty long while as I couldn't carry a solid steel as I take my dog with me so it would have to go in my pack in 6 weeks I'm hoping to be able to order my Iron Wall tent with the heat support thing for the chimney so a solid start on the road to better brighter things good space for my head I hope you know what I mean. I wish I could order it all at once that's just fantasy thinking ha ha. 27 October is the plan to order my Iron Wall with the chimney ring. £189 plus postage of 11 200 all in I thought it was budget friendly lol. The first two serious bits of gear I'll bring my synthetic sleeping bag as it's all I have - 5 Comfort to - 10 extreme my Snugpack Basecamp OPS Sleeper Lite.

    Thanks for the comparison. What's missing is identifying the model name of each. You identified the 'Nortent', and the videos you list at the end identify Pomoly. However, the models of (all 4 ?) Pomoly stoves are not mentioned. That would help in relating what you said here to the corresponding videos. Starting with the one adjacent to 'Nortent', what are the model names?

  • @danielc.1169
    @danielc.1169 Před 2 lety

    Like BBQ people do to their smokers ,..like the fire box …..and I do this also…..you spray your fire pit down with PAM or some kind of cooking oil , every time you cook with it ….it turns it black and seals the metal from rust as the oil is burned in. I have also done this to one of my huge camping steel stoves ….totally waterproofs it from rust …check it out…research it…IT WORKS
