I think you're correct. Imagine the same mechanism but both the arms are 1000km in length, magnets are extremely strong and centre of mass is located at the hinge. There's no reason for this to not work, so long as the centre of mass stays where it is.

Basically the left magnet is pulling the whole weight of the truck plus the right magnet and the right magnet is pulling the whole weight of the truck plus the left magnet cancelling each other out and just sticking together with equal force, it just sticks together nothing speed wise happens, the truck doesn’t move forward or backwards!
A way to push something without using force is making roads with an electric current passing from the other side so the metal magnet thingy gets pulled
You need bigger magnets for this to work. The bigger the vehicle, the bigger the magnet.

I had a tom and Jerry toy that worked with magnets.
Tom was battery powered and had a magnet in his mouth and Jerry was on a skate board with magnet inside the board. Tom would run behind Jerry and Jerry would move from the magnet.
