    I have watched Harvey's tapes many times. Mehlhorn sent grass whips to Harvey P. Harvey preferred the throw a bucket of water to the grass whip. So Shawn actually picked up the Mehlhorn grass cutting torch and then refined and expanded upon it. Shawn actually has two different swing keys. Put the ball in the way of the blur as you cut grass, and drive the ball into a 2x4. I like that Shawn sees the grass between the face of his iron head and the ball, and cuts that grass. Bobby Jones did not look at the ball. He adjusted his depth of field to see the area where the ball was. He put the ball in the path of his swing. You could actually use both swing keys, cut the grass for irons and fairway woods and compress the ball into a 2x4 for driver. With all due respect to Harvey P., Shawn is the man. And testimony to Shawn's teachings is his 5'4" daughter who has a long drive of 337 yards.

    Ok I've been watching these videos all Winter and practicing what I could in my limited space (Lord help me if I put another mark on our basement ceiling 😲). Today I finally went up to our club to hit some balls on the indoor Trackman facility. Specifically trying the "strong" grip, diagonal stance, and "tilt" with the notion I was going to just swing like I was throwing my clubs.
    Started with my 7 iron and...the results were AMAZING!!! My average carry with the 7 was 178.6 yards which included the shorter 4-5 warm up shots which were much shorter! Previously my 7 iron was my 163 yard club so I was 15 yards longer. And nice little draws to boot! I was pinching myself at this point to see if I was dreaming?!?!
    Next was 5-iron and same thing! 199.7 yard average carry which again was another 13+ yards over my previous yardage.
    PW next and same thing...144.5 yard average carry which is 14 yards over my previous yardage. Not bad for a 62 year old with one artificial hip joint, huh? I'm still amazed myself! My friends said, "Well you're just 'hooding' your clubs but then they could see the trajectory and launch of all these shots and had no answer for that?
    The only issue I had was at the end when I tried this with driver. I don't know if I was perhaps a bit fatigued at this point or what but I didn't seem to have the same results with driver? Lots of low snap hooks. I was teeing up with the ball a good 3/4 of the ball above the club but switched to an even taller tee which did help but still kind of "hooky" with a tendency to hit slightly towards the toe.
    Still I was thrilled for my first time actually hitting balls since last Fall and think I may have gotten a little battle fatigue at the end. I'm going to definitely work on this and try the driver first right after warming up next week! Great lessons though!!!

      @golflessons  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hooding the club…HILARIOUS! There are some significant set up differences between driver and irons as well as equipment differences; make sure you see our “throwing series” on premium as well as the “goldilocks series” and “how to match backswing to ball direction” video; and search “fade driver” in the site as you are now in a great position to hit power fades instead of these slappy borderline slices.

    I have been watching your awesome channel for some time and it honestly is the one channel that really makes sense to me. One thing I noticed when I built in all the components to my swing was that I started to consistently draw the ball but starting left. What I finally worked out was that I was setting the club in line with the target before I dialed in the shoulder tilt etc whereas if I aligned the club before setting my shoulders the face looked a little open at address but the left start disappeared and the change was consistent. Awesome.

    • @golflessons

      And I meant to say that I was aligning the club AFTER I dialed in my tilt, now I do it before which leaves the face looking slightly open. Clearly when I get to impact it is in fact square to the start line and a slight draw comes back to the flag

      Set up with a hammer behind a door frame; you have a nice tilt and side bend to hammer through the door frame and then you want to feel that the hammer’s momentum is driving through the nail and NOT coming from the alignment of the shoulders. There is no relation between the 2!! See “how to match backswing to target shawn clement” and “hammer through shawn clement”

      Hi Jake! You have options! The key here is the task you are about to deliver in the direction of the target and the eyes are going to help you do this; in our premium website, we show eyes between club and ball on grass to see the act of cutting through a dandelion stem with the prediction that the low point of the cut is on the target side of the ball; we have the eyes in front of the ball in the first inch of grass to deliver those grass clippings in the direction of the target; we have the eyes on the ball with the focus on squeezing it through a door frame into the flight plan, and there are options of outside or inside the ball; BUT WE ARE NEVER TRYING TO HIT WHATEVER WE ARE LOOKING AT, WE ARE MOVING THROUGH IT AND INTO A SPECIFIC DIRECTION INTO A SPECIFIC FLIGHT PLAN TO MAKE THE BALL THE MOST PRECISE INTERSECTION POSSIBLE.
