Dean when the metal is poured into the mould it chills against the sand mould , leaving a hard skin a deeper first cut gets under that skin . Tool wear ect .

To all my Buddies with Shapers : December 11th 2021 is upon me in just a few days, and I look back to when we shot that video of our Sammie standing on the back of our 450 Klopp as it was being dismantled for restoration. That marks the last day she was to be in our shop forever, when the cancer first hit her for the second time in her life. That by chance, will fall on a "Metal Shaper Monday". Maybe Dean if you post a Shaper Monday Monday the 11th, we all could give Sammie a "Shout Out" and a moment to remember her by? Your YT friend, Bear.

I bet that cast iron part will either be one end of index center project or lower mount for an old post vise.

Hi please note the cutting tool should clear the back of the workpiece by around 5/8 or1.2inch regards

Dean looking at the speed it looks like you may have a VFD to control the speed. Or is that just the slow side of the cone pulley? I always love your shaper videos. Thanks for bringing us along.

Hi Terry, It's just the slow speed pully and the stock 1/2 hp single phase motor. I tried going faster but the CI likes the slower stroke.
