    If you want to see appreciable differences in content, compare the US or the JP version to the European version. One change I know of right away is blood turned to water. Another comparison that would be good is Super Castlevania IV US (or Eu) vs JP.

    • @Jugdjay
      @Jugdjay Před 7 lety +7

      Other differences are:
      - Eric Lecarde's death animation doesn't have him impaled by his own spear
      - Global difficulty is in between US & JP versions
      - You have to fight every sub-boss, no matter which difficulty you choose (US version's Easy mode skips several sub-bosses)
      - The zombies' blood is green
      - You can't stomp agonizing crows by walking over them after striking them (Level 1 only, doesn't happen everytime in the US version.)
      - The hanging corpses have been removed (Level 1)
      - Blood drops dripping from the ceilings are removed. (Level 1 & Level 6)
      - The blood on the Minotaurs' weapons has been removed
      - The blood fountain doesn't turn bloody (Level 5)

      The EU-Version is called "Castlevania - The New Generation". It has much less violence compared to the JP and US Version. Cause in Europe the 90s were not a good time for Gamers. Everything was censored, caused of (in my opinion - morbid extent of) fears, that violent games can have a bad influence on the gamers. this resulted in the following in Castlevania - The New Generation:
      - The name has been changed to "The New Generation" instead of "Bloodlines"
      - The Titlescreen showes water instead of blood
      - In much sprites the bloodcolor has been changed all over the game
      - Some Animations has been changed to make the game less violent. For example: If eric dies, he just falls to the ground and his spear just falls away, instead of onto eric.
      And i think there is much more - just told the changes i was worried about, when i first played bloodlines - i loved the new generation before, but now i dislike it for the changes, still love the gameplay.

      Jugdjay: Yes, i can confirm that, except one thing: I think in Lvl 5 is a subboss, u dont get in easy mode in the EU-Version. And in Lvl 4 there is no frankenstein u have to fight. Im not very sure, but i think so.

    • @SpectrumStardust
      @SpectrumStardust Před 7 lety

      Well, I don't know where in Europe you come from or where you got the info about everything being censored regarding video games in the 90's, but I can tell you I live in Europe, and it was mostly US games that got the most censorship back then and even today (The Witcher, for example), especially when it came to scenes of nudity, partial or total. Some countries in Europe got some censorship, yes, but that was the UK and Germany only.

      Also, Vampire Killer is much easier than Castlevania Bloodlines:
      - Infinite continues
      - Less ennemies
      - Most sub-bosses are skipped (Easy mode)
      - No trap cards against Death (Easy mode)
      Instead of showing the next level's password each time you finish a level, it's shown when you get a game over and decide to stop. And you get to see the full ending no matter which difficulty you're playing at.

      In the west, they began their less rugged, more anime trend to appeal to children so it'd sell more copies on the DS - story and characters be damned. I personally prefer the old, gothic, barbarian theme. Aside from it being more interesting, it actually fit the story. I could give less than a fuck if the dudes look "beautiful".

    There are some differences in the JPN version, but they're spread out across the game. For example:
    - Some bosses have less health such as Elizabeth taking 5 hits instead of around 9
    - No Medusa heads in the room with the spinning gears of stage 4
    - The winged demons that appear when you're jumping up the floating platforms in stage 3 no longer circle and charge you
    - Infinite continues
    Most of them are minor changes, but just enough to make the JPN version feel like the balanced one.

      The American versions of Japanese titles were typically made harder. Japan didn't have a video game home rental industry like the US. Japan rentals tended to be software/rom swapping services, while the US used physical hardware which resulted in less sales in the US market.
      They hoped that by making American titles harder, consumers would be more frustrated with a title and want to purchase it instead of just renting and beating it.
