I’ve had mine for about a year now. Been doing some local competitions and such, bone stock with holosun optic. So far about 20,000 rounds down the tube with no malfunctions.
I have to say….they are very impressive in person. I just played with one at my local shop and I am still thinking about it. A few years ago I couldn’t fathom that Springfield was going to have not one but THREE guns that actually make my head turn and strongly consider them. (Echelon, Hellcat pro, Prodigy). Picking up my Echelon next week but dammit this Prodigy is so tempting. Yes I know it’s not a Staccato, but where I live Staccatos go for wayyyyy over msrp. So this is about a third of the price.
Just make sure you find out if it has been fixed by Springfield, otherwise you'll be shipping it out immediately and not see it for 6 weeks (last I heard timeframe). After it comes back from SF, it's a machine. They do 10 different things to it, which should have been done at the factory, and not "consumer QC". That said, after the fixes, it's fixed.
I had one, put about 1,000 rounds through it. My complaints: Had a handful of times it wouldn't go into battery, front fiber optic fell out at 200 rounds, the Optic it came with failed at about 500 rounds, it didn't like to feed hollow points. Not a bad handgun, but I sold it and bought a Staccato. I'd advise to skip ahead to a better weapon, you'll always be wanting it to be something better

I had to send mine in for failure to eject issues. Got it back rather quickly and it has been good for the 380 round fired after returned. I’d say it’s worth the price but my platypus is my go to being it using Glock mags.
Because they can’t afford the Staccato XC. I had both sized Prodigy’s. They don’t compare to my Atlas’s and my Staccato’s. I bought it because it was a cheap 2011, jammed every mag. Sold them both in less than a month.
Had one a few months ago and unfortunately had to get rid of it. Just picked one up a few weeks ago again for $1219. Easily one of my favorite handguns and very flat shooting. So far with this one, I have 300 trouble free rounds. Staccato fanboys are just mad that you can literally buy almost 3 of these fpr the price of one 💀
Oh please! These things are trash. I had the 4.25 and the 5 and sold them both because neither could go through a full mag without malfunctioning. Not to mention the fit and finish is trash. The cerakote on the slide of the 4.25 was showing holster wear after a single range session and don’t blame the Cerakote. I’m an Cerakote applicator and have numerous hard use pistols and rifles that show almost no wear, thousands of rounds later. Springfield just manages to fuck up Cerakote somehow as well. These abortions aren’t even in the same area code as a Staccato P, which are boringly reliable and the fit and finish is rock solid on. Oh and before you call me a fan boy, I carry an Atlas Athena, which makes a Staccato look about as pathetic as a Prodigy by comparison. I’m not gonna get on here and claim Staccato is the way and Atlas fanboys are just mad because one could buy three Staccato P’s for the price of one Atlas.
@PewP3wP3w 5 total mags Hex Dragon Fly Red Dot Range Bag 1399.00 5 inch or 4.25 Carolina Caliber Company in Winterville , NC Josh is a good point of contact. They have a Website with add still up. Good Luck
Not necessarily. The Platypus is a slightly different platform than the 2011 style pistols. The 2011 style pistols have a metal frame that uses a polymer grip module while the Platypus is just one solid piece. Not as customizable as a 2011. At the end of the day, it comes down to preference. Personally, at that price, I would probably buy a Platypus over the Prodigy.
@@jdontcare8520 I agree with everything you said, especially your final conclusion. I would make one small correction to your statement. While the platypus cannot be customized post build (in terms of changing grip module), the amount of customization at the time of purchase (and it will have even more options in a few weeks) is wildly more than anything the prodigy could even dream of.
Once Stealth starts producing the bull barrel model later this year, you might be right. Up until then, I feel like the Prodigy with the bull barrel was the way to go.
@@wittech6116 Not really... most of it is flash and color to fool you into thinking it's highly customizable. I would NEVER buy the Platy, or the 2311 From Oracle. 2011 frame or Para frame is the only 1911 I'll own.
@@PewP3wP3wyour reply guarantees you have never handled the platy. Sure being able to choose your color scheme is cool, but they machine the major parts in house. Each gun is fitted per order. I don’t know if it’s all of the Bul Armory 2011’s but I was looking at one a while back until I realized it used proprietary mags. Since I already have a bunch of 2011 mags I just couldn’t commit.

@@willthethrill4394why do you say "mid tier" with such confidence? Staccato are the highest quality pistols on the market. Name a single pistol that is more precisely made. One does not get any advantage from Atlas or Nighthawk over Staccato other than niche custom work. If that's something you need, cool. But to say Staccato are "mid" is just demonstrably false.
My prodigy was purchased on 02/13/24, shot it on 02/15/24, returned to Springfield on 02/17/24. I had over 8 failure to feed, thumb safety stuck twice and the slide stayed open without a magazine inserted or manipulation of thumb slide stop. Junk! No way I can confidence in this gun. Shame on you Springfield.
Almost all 1911 reliability issues come down to untuned extractors, yet no mass manufacture puts any effort into tuning them before shipment. They just drop one in from a parts bin and ship it. You get lucky... yours is tuned. Unlucky, and it jams constantly. Roll of the dice. On the plus side, that also means almost all malfunctions can be cleared up by upgrading and tuning the extractor... which is super cheap. I've bought several second hand for next to nothing, because it "jams all the time, and I already polished the feed ramp". 40 bucks worth of extractor later and 100% reliable.
Staccato people dont like this pistol because it makes them realize staccato trick them out of an extra $1000 for a pistol😂

I had to send mine in for failure to eject issues. Got it back rather quickly and it has been good for the 380 round fired after returned. I’d say it’s worth the price but my platypus is my go to being it using Glock mags.
Love the platypus. Wish I could’ve waited for the bul barrel and the optics milling for a SRO.
What was the turnaround for your pistol? I heard 6 weeks.
@@PewP3wP3w order mine Aug 1 and got it early November.
@@PewP3wP3w it was around the 7-8 week mark.
Have you heard of the Bul armory sas II.
GREAT gun
@michaelparks2398 love my prodigy. Sucks you had a bad experience with it.
@@michaelparks2398definitely not trash lol
I want one
I own the prodigy and a couple staccatos all are great firearms. Prodigy is very flat shooting
What about the Platypus
If you own 3x 1911's already and are looking for a gimmicky 1911 to add to your collection, it's perfect.
Calling a 9mm “1911” a double stack is like calling a Glock 19 a double stack. It sounds redundant.
*I can't find one to buy.*
*Anyone want to sell theirs?*
Where are you located. Store near me has a great sell on them. Comes with 3 extra mags, Red Dot and Ramge bag . 5inch & 4.25 inch
@@rik4369 3 extra as in, total 5? How much is the 5 inch?
@@rik4369 I don't see my reply. How much are the 5 inch? And is that 5 total mags? It comes with 2.
@PewP3wP3w

Josh is a good point of contact. They have a Website with add still up.
Good Luck
The SA PRODIGY is excellent and the price. But now we have the MAC DS 1911 aka Turkatto and the APOLLO 11 at even better price points. Peace
I've learned to "buy once, cry once."
What about Bul Armory
Great gun, proprietary mag. Highly recommend.
That 3.5 BA is sweet. Love the cuts on the frame that reduce weight. Held one at the range and was nice. The issue is finding them.
RIA TAC ULTRA FS HC is almost the same gun at more than half the price. 😬🤦♂️😬
The only reason to buy a prodigy is if you aren’t aware of the stealth arms platypus.
And they shoot extremely well. Taking Glock mags just makes them more practical for so many people. Also, para? Really bro.
Fuck that weight lol i guess if you want a 2011 that badly lol i have not been a big fan id rather pay a litte more a get a voodoo preist or a c2
Really nothing wrong with them. Had some teething issues when they first came out but Springfield resolved them.
Hex optic is dumb.
1500 is budget....jesus
Anyone remember all the anti-1911 /2011 guys crying about carrying a gun with a manual safety??? Boy that didn’t age well..Bul Armory SAS II UL if you want to edc a 2011 at a great price
Lemme answer that without watching your video. They want a 2011, but don’t understand that functional 2011’s can’t be bought for 1000 bucks.
Not true, MAC 9 DS is $1,000 and more reliable than prodigy, apollo 11 is reliable but has issues with hollowpoints, Tisas carry 1911 DS is reliable, all 3 under $1,000.... the girsan 2311 sucks
Becuse were also car guys and we love fixing and building. Also staccato is overpriced and over rated. Also to me the prodigy isn't that heavy. Im a 1911 guy and i have the fnx 45 tactical the prodigy weighs the same to me then again im a big guy and i do my push ups 😂
You can buy KKM Threaded barrel for it or DSC Threaded barrel
I owned two Prodigy’s. The full size and the commander size. Both bought brand new. They had nothing but issues. Now I win the Staccato XC and the staccato CS. Nor one issues at all.
Issues are easy to fix
bull armory?
People sleep on them
1 year warranty
I don’t know if it’s all of the Bul Armory 2011’s but I was looking at one a while back until I realized it used proprietary mags. Since I already have a bunch of 2011 mags I just couldn’t commit.
@@losoway4505haha! people sleep on them?? You must be kiddin me.. Its very hard to get and whenever Bul armory restock them, its gone in an hour..
Prodigy and spend the rest on training
Good point!
Stealth arms . Platypus
No
Platypus
Lol doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
Yeah... money is relative huh?
You can get a good DS Para framed 1911 from RIA for $700.
If you want a 2011 framed 1911, the Prodigy is probably best.
Only and arm OR a leg haha
Platypus rules
My buddy has one, it is very unreliable. He bought it as a beater/gunsmithing gun so he could work on it. I’ll stick with my Staccato.
It’s funny hearing you praise this gun filled with MIM parts and plastic for 1500 bucks, when Tisas makes a double stack 1911 with all machined internals and no MIM parts for only $800 bucks 😂 send that Prodigy to Skips Guns and Scott will hook you up with the best gunsmithing work you can get. Let him port it and tune it for you and then shoot it side by side with a staccato. You won’t be disappointed. SGZ LLC. Check him out 👍🏻
Tisas is turkish junk.
Staccato all the way
Yep, buy once cry once.
Overpriced and overrated
Yo bro can I see your staccato I was looking into them
Mid tier
Dude you are your own worse enemy, you contradict yourself in the video
I’ve owned my 4.25 Prodigy for about 6 months and it’s been uber reliable. Guess I got lucky from some of the rumors with issues
Same here. After many competitions, it's still solid and reliable.
