My aunt actually comes from a very catholic family, so one day she went "I think god has a plan for everyone" and I (a trans dude) instantly responded with "yeah, but what about trans people?"
And her response was literally, without missing a beat: _"If god God wanted you to be happy as a woman, you would've achieved content with your birth gender a long time ago."_ And I dunno... I just think it's a surprisingly progressive take, given it comes from a religious background.

Damn, that's a really cool response, honestly. It's much, much better than "God makes no mistakes" and "He only made man and woman," and it's genuinely really wholesome. I wish my mom would see things like that.

Thought some people might like to hear that too :3

I used to be unbelievably transphobic, and it took many years to get over it and realise that i was trans afterall.
Thinking back, the reason i was so against it was because i thought 'who wouldn't want to be trans', 'just because you want to doesn't mean you should transition', and 'if i can convince myself I'm a cis girl, so can you".
    Yeah, i was very wrong

I used to be "kinda transphobic". The kind that says transphobic things about "trenders" and non-binary people, while believing that it was good for the "real trans people".
Then I realized the place I was getting these ideas from was actually straight-up anti-trans (the wake-up call was seeing someone unironically use the "tr--ny" slur and no one having a problem with it). Then a bit later, I made actual trans friends, who made me realize how close-minded and toxic I was.

@@Zuxtron I also had internalized a lot of transmedicalist beliefs, and for the longest time acted like I was white knighting for legitimate trans people, like my friend who had come out as a trans man around that time. For instance, I had to ask to make sure he went through all the right medical channels, and got a proper diagnosis. I had also convinced myself that I knew of examples of "trenders" to justify believing those things. However, the same friend who introduced me to truscum beliefs had to be the one to talk me out of them. Those I thought were "trenders" were likely trans people dealing with their issues in an unhealthy way, and without any kind of support network.
By the time I started questioning myself, even though I rationally knew the transmed beliefs were wrong, I still felt like they could be true for me. This was a pretty dark time in my life, because I'd convinced myself I was the only person terrible enough to fake it for attention. In the end, I finally came out to myself as nonbinary, but my having been exposed to truscum ideas likely set me back 15 years.

I came out as genderflux to my uncle and little cousin on video call since I haven't seen them in person in a year now (which is very unusual for my family) and my cousin asked what it was. I told her that it means sometimes I'm a girl, sometimes I'm boy, sometimes I'm neither and sometimes I'm a boy and a girl at once. "It's like shapshifting, but I can't control it. Sometimes I stay the same for a while and sometimes I'm only a boy for one day." I said. My cousin was amazed. And the very next day, she went bragging to all her kindergarten classmates that her big cousin is a shapshifter. My uncle was very excepting.
It's not confusing the kids. My cousin has been extremely curious about my life as a "gendershifter" as we call it in my family. And it feels so much cooler to say "I'm a gendershifter" than "I'm genderflux"

Basically I looked at it like “Just do whatever you want / dress however you want, it doesn’t matter what your gender is.” Obviously I have learned a lot since then thanks to channels like this one. Turns out the whole “Gender doesn’t matter” part was just me possibly being enby and/or agender (still questioning) and not realizing it because of the kind of mindset I was surrounded with at home. Which she is not as I also have a father who has a lovely wife) and I once asked my mom's partner if I could go out and she told me to ask my mom. Then I went to my mom and she told me to ask my 'other mom' and then I got tuck in an endless circle and just decided to go out without their permission.

Also, one manga I recommend that is wholesome is Dekoboko Sugar Days and its sequel Dekoboko Bittersweet Days. The sex scene in the first one was so worth the wait and it was adorable cause the guy who was submissive (can I use that term?) is like 6 feet tall and he gets super flustered.

@@hannahk1306 Yeah, and it's been regressing a bit in the UK, too! I lived there from 2005 to 2011, and the atmosphere for trans people then, before the whole "gender critical" thing really took off, felt like it was moving forward, not backwards! Now it's worse for trans people there, as well. But in the US, the Republican-dominated states have REALLY launched an all-out assault on LGBTQ+ people, and especially trans youth, in recent years, as well as also attacking reproductive rights, teaching accurate history about non-white Americans, and more. It's so disheartening because the Republicans have such a huge majority in the state legislature, that there is no way for Democrats to stop any of this horrible legislation except through the introduction of amendments that might make them less awful.

    • @sadfaery
      @sadfaery Před 2 lety +3

@@carr0760 Yep. And in addition to all of the anti-LGBTQ+ stuff they're pushing through this term, they've also launched assaults on reproductive freedom and even on teaching accurate history regarding the treatment of racial and ethnic minorities, too. All of these things are being pushed forward in other bills going through Florida's legislature, this year. They're redefining "gender" as "sex" and redefining "ethnicity" as "color", which is not anywhere even close to the same thing. They're pushing more abortion restrictions, heterosexual abstinence-only sex education (which is NOT actually educating anyone about anything at all), and removing requirements for dating violence/healthy relationship curricula to be secular in nature, which opens up the possibility of religious-based curricula. It's overwhelmingly bad.

I'm bi and I grew up under Section 28 (1988-2003); I started secondary school in '89 and graduated uni in 2000. Didn't stop me being bi. Stopped me coming out until I was 23, when I was in a very welcoming community with a number of out bi folks, but not until after I'd had a serious depressive episode culminating in a suicide attempt. Turns out I probably had some level of depression for most of my teens. Now, S28 didn't cause that, but it sure as hell couldn't have helped.
On a different matter, I think transphobes accuse transfolks of "perpetuating harmful gender steretypes" because until fairly recently doctors *required* trans people seeking to medically transition to enact traditional gendered behaviour. I hope any doctor helping transfolks to transition would be wiser now, but I suspect that this, like many other things, is a work in progress.

From the perspective of a (mostly) openly bi dude, you have to come out when it feels right for you. There is no perfect way to come out, and you have to put your safety over anything else. I wish you the best of luck.

Growing up, I was a terrible homophobe and transphobe based on religion and just hating myself because I wasn't "like other girls" at the time. It took me learning about LGBT issues and talking to others for me to realize that I identified with some of them, and that I didn't actually agree with all the bs I mentioned.
I've not known it for very long, but I'm a demi-pansexual demigirl, and I'm just happy being me. 😊😊
    Edit: I'm trans 😅
