    The monster species is already named "living armor." They just reclassified the taxonomy from magic construct to mollusk.

      I thought the armor was real armor picked up by the mollusks (like hermit crabs) but later found out in the manga that their shells naturally look like knight armor (more like corals).

    This episode serves as a wonderful introduction to what dungeon meshi truly does better than most fantasy, making each and every part of the world fit together better than “oh it’s powered by magic” by providing an ecological perspective. It also fully introduces a major part of the character of Laios, his never ending fascination with monsters and desire to learn all he can about them. I hope as the episodes go by you both continue to be invested in the world and characters so you can look back and appreciate the earlier episodes even more.

    You misunderstood at the end, he isn’t saying that they find armour themselves, the armour is literally a shell that they grow around themselves, that’s why almost all of the colonies look exactly the same.

    I think you guys are going to really enjoy this series. I stumbled upon the manga several years ago and it's been my favorite ever since. The anime is very faithful to the manga (a lot of things are straight panels into shots) though some details do get left out to save time in the episodes. I'll hint that things do get more serious, in this episode you saw the living armors kill several people. The show is deceptive about how deep it is at the start. Pick at the details, make theories, have fun. Avoid spoilers! Count how many hairstyles Marcille has 😂

    27:38 ngl that sounded kinda sad... I feel like once you make your hobby a job feels like ok this is the best outcome... but now that you said it like that kinda hit me xD for example I'm trying to live as a videogame programmer because I like to make some games code, lear new stuff, etc etc but if I made it... would I ever feel like ok I should do something else because I shouldn't "work" rn. idk I just felt a bit down with all that thoughts xD

    This episode is when the author started cooking for real. It'll meander a little until roughly halfway through the season and the story will pick up drastically and dramatically from there. I am so excited to see you react and discuss it!

      Meander? I disagree. As someone who is reading it and reaching the end game, I think the beginning episodes are still absolutely wonderful and set up the the rest of the series fantastically. Theres still joy in the simplicity, and the early stories are still compelling. The rest of the series is compelling just cuz of how good these ones are

      @@BelBelle468 nono, I agree they are excellent and necessary for the story, but they don't have the same intensity as the latter half of the season.

    • @XShrike0
      @XShrike0 Před 27 dny +6

      @@BelBelle468 I don't know where the meandering is coming from. The pre red dragon part is world and character building. It has what is left of the original party getting to learn how to work with Shenshi and vice versa. It also sprinkles in themes and plot points that grow as the series progress. It avoids exposition dumps by having characters bring up topics naturally and explain them naturally.

    I love the character design of Dungeon Meshi. Japanese anime has big eyes, the same faces, and no personality, but this anime is Disney-like and expressive. And Marsil changes her hairstyle 36 times in 24 episodes. It's also great that it has a symphonic theme song like Indiana Jones or Star Wars, which is rare for an anime, and I love it.
