When Alex said he was concentrating so hard and went mute, it really made me appreciate how Ben flawlessly commentates when he's doing a challenge off the cuff
There's honestly a huge skill in changing from 'acting on an idea' to 'turning that idea into something communicable to another person', and that's before we even get to the fact that he's translating *that* into a second language
The mozzarella twist is actually not too uncommon. American cheese or other sorts of melty cheeses are found in quick ramen hacks or korean ramen dishes. Just makes the broth thicker and creamier.
Wow, you're right! Between the cheese, the gochujang pork, and the Korean brand of instant noodle, he could've gone in more of a budae jjigae direction.

You can make Japanese-inspired mozzarella sticks or cubes as a topping as well.
Right? i was immediately thinking why would mozzarella be in the weird ingredients if you see cheese in ramen so often
They don't use the fresh kind, like the mozzarella used here, which melts in a stringy sort of way that is not great in a broth. It's usually processed cheese that's used in Korean ramen, coz processed cheeses have certain ingredients that make it melt differently and make the broth thicker.
You're not the only one who thinks the "Normals" aren't really normal homecooks anymore. They certainly were at the beginning of the channel, but after 13 years, they've definitely been elevated above that.
The Mythical Kitchen folks would probably be down for a ramen battle.

They are pathetic in comparison to several CZcams cooks. Of course they are better than Cooking with Jack or Kay's Cooking but anybody who can boil water is better than they are. I consider the "Normals" on Sorted to be par for CZcams cooks. Anyone below their level of cooking should not be considered. Though it would be entertaining to see him go up against the likes of Uncle Roger or even The Mythical Kitchen it wouldn't be fair to Uncle Roger or The Mythical Kitchen.

Alex, Northern japan has a Cheese Ramen as a delicacy! The mozzarella wasn’t as bad as a curve ball as the boys thought.
And the instant pack they used is Shin Ramyun from Korea, so cheese fits quite alright.
the only issue is for cheese ramen you use cheese that melts easy and isnt stringy like mozzarella

I love the callout on the “normals.” The medals challenge they did to call them “chefs” required them to be great on a huge list of things that a good bit of actual chefs can’t do consistently.

I agree, but I don't know if he'd go for it. There would need to be good cash involved, and B.A. is really tight with their contracts. It's a whole deal with Brad Leone. If it were pre BLM B.A. they'd even call Alex to the B.A. kitchen for a shoot.

Cheese and ramen is quite common in Korean noodle dishes. You even had the exact same Ramen packet a lot of Koreans use in Cheese Ramen dishes.
Cheese is used a lot in Korean Ramyun and other spicy Korean soups. Probably would have worked well with the spicy shin ramen powder to make a base.
My chef recommendation would be Jon Kung. I think you both could play off each other really well because of how you love to experiment with flavors and fusion in the same way that he does but definitely from two separate world views/upbringings.
Chef John from Food Wishes would be great. He's hilarious and it be fun to see if he'd do a collaboration or not (considering he doesn't show his face in his videos).

Not sure if any chef has done something like what I'm going to propose, but I've always wanted to see a chef show up to a fan's kitchen and help them cook something and show them the unrealized potential in themselves and their kitchen.

Gordon Ramsay used to do that on The F Word
Curtis stone had a show like that. Where he would pick someone from the grocery store pay for all everything in the cart. Then they'll go to that person's home and help them cook am amazing meal for their SO. It was a really cool show.
I believe Sortedfood are going to do exactly that in the near future!
Cheese ramen kind of dishes are popular in KOrea, your last ramen series"only" featured Japanese style ramen. Maybe you could make a series about Korean ramen

This recipe got me through some rough times in school. And I still love it to this day. It costs around 30 bucks for everything and will easily feed you for 2 weeks.
1 large green onion stalk sliced(use 2 of there small), 1 clove of garlic minced, 1 chunk of ginger minced (roughly the size of your garlic clove) boil these in your water before you add the noodles, this will greatly amp up the flavor of your ramen.
For toppings, you wanna slice up the greens of your green onion, soft boil an egg(roughly 6 min boil), and fry up a couple slices of bacon. Add a drizzle of soy sauce, and a cap of sesame oil to your bowl before pouring in the broth and noodles, top with the toppings and BOOM you got the best damn ramen bowl you can get at home. With only 15 ish mins of cook time.
I usually use pork ramen, hence the bacon, but you can use whatever ramen you want.
I should specify that I have a gas stove, so cook times may vary depending on how long it takes for things to reach a boil.

I didn't really think about it like that until Ben said it but trading the richness of an egg for the richness of mozzarella actually sounds really good.

The outcome of that really surprised me and not in the way that you would think. Ben is notoriously susceptible to hot sauces and it looked like Jamie added a lot of that reaper sauce. Makes me think that reaper sauce is not as spicy as my ghost pepper sauce that I like to use.
A cook-off between you and Uncle Roger would shake the world im sure. This has to happen!

Jolly/The Korean Englishman isn't exactly a food channel, but they do a lot of videos with Korean food (as one of the guys is married to a Korean woman who is also a professional chef who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris) and actually had a recipe where they used American cheese as part of a traditional Korean army soup dish that uses Rameyon (Korea's version of ramen noodles) as a base.
I totally think a collab with Korean Englishman is in order! The instant ramen in this challenge was Korean, not Japanese. Alex's mind will blow if he visits Korea.

Uncle Roger for Fried Rice or Ramen (and he is close in the UK), I Am Andong is a German Foodtuber who would be a cool collab, Chud would be great for BBQ, and of course Max the Meat Guy for any other meat related challenge or as a person to learn Jerky from.
I don't know if Jacques Pepin still travels to France but I would like to see you challenge him to make Bœuf Bourgignon . Jacques seems to be still in good health and I think it would be good fun. Would like to see Jacques go to France and introduce you to his contacts there.

Better help is being sued by the FTC for selling private medical and personal information. I'd recommend finding a better sponsor. One of the things I love to do most with instant ramen like Shin Red is to use it as a vehicle for leftover meats and produce/veg not yet bad, but not in prime form. Last time I made it with leftover birria in Shin Red with some green onions and cilantro

@@majcrash I did indeed. I don't think poorly of the seasoning packets, maybe a little high is salt in many cases, I just think homemade broths or birria consomme are just so much more rich and flavorful

What a collab!
In the city I studied in there was (hopefully still is) this Korean place that had amazing Ramen and one of my favorites there was cheese Ramen. I don't know what kind of cheese they used, some generic yellow cheese (knowing the area, probably young Gouda), but the stringy, fatty cheese in the Ramen was surprisingly addictive. This also was my first experience with actual Ramen noodles instead of the instant kind.
The only downside is that the molten cheese sticks to the chopsticks like crazy. But apart from that, absolutely recommended.
Please do a video with ChefPK and/or Andong! They're absolutely amazing cooks with a great knowledge not just about ingredients but about food history aswell!
