- The Portland Streetcar is a streetcar system in Portland, Oregon, that opened in 2001 and serves areas surrounding downtown Portland. The 3.9-mile (6.3 km) NS Line runs from Northwest Portland to the South Waterfront via Downtown and the Pearl District. The Loop Service, which opened in September 2012 as the Central Loop (CL Line), runs from Downtown to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry via the Pearl District, the Broadway Bridge across Willamette River, the Lloyd District, and the Central Eastside Industrial District and added 3.3 miles (5.3 km) of route. In September 2015 the line was renamed as the Loop Service, with the A Loop traveling clockwise, and the B Loop traveling counterclockwise. The two-route system serves some 20,000 daily riders.

Thank you for your support. Comment below so all of us can have a productive and insightful conversation about transportation! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I can only dream of my city putting this much resources towards a streetcar network. To think many part in at least our downtown area still has tracks from the original streetcars paved over for the past half century.
I love streetcars and light rails! I don’t have much of them where I am so I get excited when I see good videos containing them.
Beautiful transit system. Go Portland!
The scenery certainly adds color to these colorful trams!
I drove yesterday same tram here in Ostrava Czech Republic, but our system is much faster
Seattle streetcar goes to nowhere. The Portland system is awesome.
They need to start by connecting the two systems... There are plans in the works but don't know the status of that
Very nice trams' Thanks you. Saludos cordiales desde España
such a beautiful city! the trees are gorgeous. what month was this filmed in?
All my videos are dated in the beginning :) This one is November 2, 2018
Basically the state of Oregon during autumn
I love this street cars. Same like in Bremen Germany. Love you're town. Seems it is a little bit of Northern Germany like Bremen with some rainy weather all over the seasons
CRATER LAKE. is one of the most fascinating sights in the West , it is a Must when in this aerea , but note : at least 1 stay overnight, reservations 4 - 5 month in advance - lake opened mids of May (depends on snow fall earlier) until September, otherwise toll-road is closed. UNFORGETTABLE. TIMOTHY: lovely video- Portland offers quiet an impression regarding public transport - a s the whole state of Oregon does! Regards WOLF
Very very nice video!!!!!!
спасибо за экскурсию.
Nice how you can clearly see that the center section doesn't have any wheels under it, and the whole end sections act as the bogies, in segments that start at 00:46, 01:01, 06:34, and 09:10. (You can also see in some other segments of the video if you look really hard, but these are the clearest.) In Boston in the early 1900s this was called "two rooms and a bath", made by suspending a center section between 2 streetcars of 2 axles each (although a larger version of that also existed that did the same thing with 2 short streetcars of 4 axles each). You need good track for this to be usable without considerable passenger discomfort, though, and Boston at the time (and since) didn't have that, so those didn't last very long, being taken out of service when the Boston Elevated Railway got enough full-sized streetcars of more conventional design. I haven't ridden the Portland streetcars myself, but judging from the interior footage, the ride can't be too bad (unless the photographer is insanely good at compensating for a rough ride), so I guess the government agency TriMet and the non-profit Portland Streetcar Incorporated do a better job of maintaining the track than the privately-run Boston Elevated Railway did -- although to be fair, it looks like they are also doing a better job than the government Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (but then again, we haven't tried 2 axle streetcars or 4 axle double-articulated streetcars here for a LONG time).
Strange that some of the streetcars have just one end of a different color, but this is the case on several of them, so it must be on purpose.
The trams in Portland are a bit of a joke. They are even shorter than the ones in Halberstadt. It's a great video nonetheless. Thank you for producing and uploading it.
good video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's loud and slow comparing with trams in Europe.
Yeah, those trams was developed and partially manufactured in Europe. First batch is from Skoda , next from Inekon, both companys are from Czech Republic, central Europe. And latest models here, are licensing production from Skoda in fomer company United Streetcar. Here in Czech republic they running in five cities This is typical czech tram production in mid of 90´s. And we exported these trams to Tacoma, Portland, Seattle and Washington D.C.
Yeah, this is very old model of tram, Skoda T10, with only partial low-floor. At this time Skoda makes nice T30 series
strepkins nope by US law trains have to be built in the US
@@mrbrainbob5320 But streetcars are not controlled by that law. I was at an public event in Škoda Transportation and they said, that most of the parts are made in CZ, but the streetcars are finally fully assembled in the US.
@@FilFee yes it is most of the parts are made in the US
The Portland streetcar is just an exercise in stopping. I was on it once and a guy walking his dog kept catching up with it every time we stopped.
Almost Like the Lite Rail in Hudson County N.J "
Thanks for this video. They are very noisy, I feel.
Very fast and cool trams!
I've ridin the A LOOP
Nice "
Where is that cool crater at the beginning? Looks like there must have been a huge impact at some point?
Beautiful Crater Lake!
@@timosha21 Thanks! Sounds like quite an apt name.
Caused by the implosion of volcanic Mt Mazama. Wizard Island in the center is the attempted regrowth of the cone. The eruption/implosion must have rivaled Krakatoa. The water that has filled the crater is almost pristine in clarity. One of the world's wonders to see in person. Be sure and watch the sunrise over the east crater wall. Unforgettable.
They sound like they've got shocking wheel flats. They sound a lot like the 1950s W-class trams of Melbourne especially when going over a set of points. Boggies don't sound good.
Yeah, I guess they don't have a lathe to fix this. We do here in Prague.
Make what is the best bus rapid transit system in the u.s
Why do they sound like they’re falling apart?
They don't actually sound that bad in person somehow
Sounds like they need to work a little harder to make sure those wheels stay round 🟦👀
Has the Portland Streetcar expanded since it first opened?
Extensions are planned: portlandstreetcar.org/about-us/streetcar-is-growing
no
Yes, the A and B Loops are the only extension of the system so far.
What is this actually filmed in 2019?
0:01 shows the date ;)
They seem slower than Toronto's.
Downtown there about the same in think maybe a little bit faster
Why are they so slow?
american style B)
omg it’s so slow 😂 the light rail in Sacramento is like 3x faster than that
Portland also has a light rail system that runs much faster - up to 55 mph. The streetcar runs in mixed traffic in an urban area so it can't go too fast
This isn't light rail, they are just street cars. Portland has light rail, street cars and passenger trains to connect the city.
Excessively noisy for something that rides on rails.
Seems that most of the noise is from the electronics of the propulsion system (and this is quite irritating), rather than the wheels on the rails (which are quite bearable except when going around sharp curves).
It looks pretty but the Portland Streetcar, like most streetcar systems in the United States, is a money pit. Fares are $2, but it costs the city $3.50 per rider.
Well yeah, 10T are shitty trams. They aren't favorite in Czech Republic too.
Edit: In czechia. They don't have doors on both sides and are called LTM 10.08.1 (Nickname: Anitra.)
