Italian Tries American Dessert Snacks for the First Time | Italian vs. American Sweets | Italian Eats Twinkies
My Italian wife, Eva, LOVES American desserts. That being said, she does miss some sweets from her homeland, such as sweet ravioli, rotolo alla nutella, and cannoli. Luckily, we have versions (sort of) of ALL those treats right here in America!
In this video, Eva tries American dessert snacks for the first time. She tastes Hostess Twinkies, Little Debbie Swiss Rolls, and Drake's Apple Fruit Pies. Leave a comment below if there are any other American sweets she should sample next time!

--------
CANNOLI RECIPE
Using a spatula, sift 20 oz. of ricotta cheese through a kitchen strainer. Mix in 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar. Place the cheese back in the strainer, and allow to drain over a pot in the fridge overnight.
Mix 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp. sugar, 1 1/2 tbsp. butter, 2 tbsp. marsala wine, and 2 tsp. of cocoa powder into a smooth, even dough. Roll out the dough and cut into 4x4" squares, approximately 1/8" thick. Wrap squares diagonally on cannoli shell molds, using dabs of egg whites to stick the corners together.
Cannoli Molds: amzn.to/2vTf24p
Deep fry the shells in very hot oil (we recommend peanut oil) until they start to become bubbly. Remove from oil and allow to cool before removing the molds.
Mix chocolate chips to taste into the ricotta and fill the shells using a spoon. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve as soon as possible.
Buon appetito!

You are a lucky man, getting all those authentic Italian dishes right at home, she is a fantastic cook.
I know, I won the jackpot!
@@PastaGrammar Is she teaching you how to prepare these dishes yourself as well?
@Anton Boludo She tries, but I’m a slow learner 😂
@@PastaGrammar LOL :-)
@Ray Stev 😉
Eva looks so proud when her husband loves her food
Yes bc he teases her all the time saying certain American food is ewuivalent when he knows its 99.9 % different
"It's the worst food you can give to your child"
"that's probably accurate" 😂😂😂😂
not probably, it IS accurate! hahahaha!
Fun though because in the video where they compared Italian and American chocolates she chose Kinder Cereali as her favourite 😂
Which, don't get me wrong, I love as well, but Kinder snacks are the most "merendine" snacks I could think of. Kinder and Mulino Bianco, I should add 😂
@@dianapohe mulino bianco is fantastic i eat those for breakfast
Nutella is as bad if not worst
Merendina? Does that literally mean “little sh*t?”
My boyfriend is an Italian. His reaction is the same with Eva's whenever I feed him "foreign" version of Italian dish. He dies every time.
I think that happens everything someone eats their country food abroad... Not only to Italians. I can only start to imagine how Asian cuisine is trashed in Italy, just to name one...
@@raffaelepigneri1413 That's right. I tried asian restaurants in Italy, not as good, but okay. It's just amazing to see how passionate Italian would react to anything, especially their food!
Yes but Asian couisine in italy is made by asian beacause try that one that italian made it so sophisticated
Poor guy
I ate a lot of good and some so-so chinese food in Singapore and Binondo. Imagine my shock wheni tried chinese food here, it taste so watered down.
6:12 Re: The Twinkie.. "Why you want me die here in America?" LOL!
It is not easy for someone who knows what good food is to call out the not so great food and do it without insulting the multitudes of people who know no better, but Eva does this with class. You rock Eva.
Comparing Twinkies to Cannoli it's like blaspheme, but ten times worst
I would take a cannoli over a Twinkie ANY day!!
@@donmills4261I've tried a twinkie before. It literally tasted of nothing. Just a wet sponge cake (literally) with a tasteless cream filling.
I'm not Italian, I'm not American. I don't know how I got here.
don mills, *cannolo
@@fishguy911 Cannoli is plural of Cannolo
Cash_Saturn, sì lo so. Io parlo italiano. Stavo correggendo don mills.
You guys are hilarious. As I traveled through Europe, I have to admit that the best food I had was in Italia.
Thank you...
Her husband acts like an idiot!
I love that Eva is so confident in her cooking (for good reasons) and she still lights up when you love her food! So sweet 😊
Thank you!
At first I thought this channel was bigger than it actually was so I’m proud to say that I’m here before you guys make it BIG you guys are an adorable couple and you guys deserve the world. Keep on going guys
Thank you!!!
Il tiramisù Eva!!
Presto!
You are an Amazing couple!!! Never let her go! It's extremely rare to find someone who gives always warm smiles and cooks amazing foods. I tip my hat off to you my good Sir 🎩

Harper: “They’re not artificial”
Laughed so hard at that face LOL hahahah
Mi mancano esattamente 3 video e poi...li ho visti tutti ragazzi.

Never have I seen cannoli being made! I thought they could only be purchased! Brava, brava!
In order to buy cannoli some people needs to make them, they are not made with magic
@@giovannigobbi4832 despite the fact that they are magic! :-D
It's the same story with pretzels 😂
Well, let's see Eva make some Twinkies?
@@giovannigobbi4832 I think they meant that like how you wouldn't realistically expect to be able to produce a sneakers bar at home, considering a lot of it involves specific factory machinery.
Watching your videos is like being with friends you know from several years. You're a perfect couple, thanks for your videos!
Thank you so much for your kind words! ☺️
Harper is such a troll! 😂
Harper: *Looks at highly processed, packaged American snack* This looks authentically Italian, right? I could see these being sold by a street vendor in Venice. 🙂
Eva: ……..😦…….. NO! 😡
Eva makes me miss my grandparents so much! They are all Italian but immigrated to Canada when they were young adults.. they still have the same accent, mannerisms and expressions.. I haven't seen them in so long due to COVID.. thanks for making me smile Eva!
I watched this video two times in a row and laughed pretty much non-stop through both viewings. You two are so cute, funny, and boy oh boy can Eva cook!! Thanks so much for entertaining and teaching us! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
"it's the worst food you can give to your child." "That sounds accurate."
„Swiss rolls“ never seen them in any supermarket in switzerland.
Hmmm. How about "Yodels"?
This has to be one of the cutest youtube shows i’ve ever seen. Really funny, guys. Eva’s reactions alone are priceless.
Thank you so much!
I've had all the desserts she's talked about, comparing anything he gave her should be ILLEGAL. Especially canolli, they are my favorite thing ever! Lol
I totally saw the *ingredients wall* coming when you said "No, they're not artificial!" but that look you gave at the camera after still cracked me up.
COSA FAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII DIMENTICHI I FONDAMENTALI!
Hai ragione! 😂🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

Ma pure io me sa... 😂😂😂😂
@@PastaGrammar ohu ! non dimenticare Arancini, cartocciate e granite siciliane ! Ahahahahah
OK, I'm a baker. I thought you were going to actually give her cannoli, or a cake roll from a bakery like pumpkin roll. Some of us actually make stuff from scratch to sell. At the bakery I work we make bread, danish, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, cookies from scratch every day, etc. Find a good bakery for her!
Right! Giving her a swiss roll was just wrong. That is not a good representation of American baked goods.
I thought just the same, he could have give her real homemade-made from scratch desserts. Yo cannot compare something fresh with those packaged sweets.
Look, I'm Italian and I'm completely agree with you.
Although I love this couple and cannoli siciliani, a comparison like that, between a homemade product and an industrial snack is not fair..
Careful, dude. If you keep feeding her like this she'll divorce you.
Wouldn't be surprised
@@oneitalia2312 Dude I don't know if ur joking
I would divorce any man who thinks american food is good. Don’t compare Italian food with shit like twinkies.
I have only had the dubious pleasure of eating Twinkies once. I bought a box on my daughter's request from the American section in my local Tesco Express. (We live near our local university). They are so sickly sweet just having that memory makes my teeth ache!
@@traceyblanchard1756 Twinkie's are scary.
While this video is flipping hilarious, I would like to see her reaction to those actual items found at local bakeries. It would be nice to see how we stack up.
"I say no to the duck."
I laughed so hard when you gave Eva a Twinkie! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Twinkie isn't as good as the Cannoli but the Twinkie last for a hundred years. You guys make me laugh and you are a very lucky man. God bless you guys and stay safe. 👍😍
Their videos are real eye openers to all the garbage we actually eat in this country . I love your videos guys ☺️ stay well and healthy 🙏🏽
Ahahahaha salute!!! xD
Grazie!! ❤️
I love Italian food too you are blessed to have a nice Italian wife to share her dishes from back home for you not like the Dominos pizzas 🤣Take her to NYC where more Italian food is. I bet she will find most of these things she is missing from Italy. Great videos on the channel. I really enjoy them and her reactions are golden 😂
Eva you're such an actress! I am Italian as well, lived for the last 14 years in UK and my reaction were the same with the British food during my 10 years relationship with a British guy :) Happy memories of 10 loving years with the best guy in the whole world!
😜😜😜😜
I'm also Italian living in the u.k and starving to death. I can only make my own food, or go to trusted Italian sources.
Emma Rose I've lived in the UK for years and I've survived pretty well so far, you just need to know where to look for stuff (usually local grocers and similar, for example my local fishmonger has a whole shelf dedicated to Italian products, including coarse salt). Other times you just need to be inventive with the stuff you can find here.
Im not even an italian. Im from eastern europe, it took me a long time to get used to food in US. My husband from south america and problem was the same. I just cook everything otherwise we get a stomach pain.
I'm beginning to think that nothing I've ever eaten that was labeled "Italian" was even close to the same thing. I would love to try her cooking!
I know. She needs her own cooking show and a restaurant.
"Millions and millions of american children grow up eating it"
That's maybe why America has an obesity problem. They should start to put the "5 star health rating" on food packages like they do in some part of the world... I would like to have it in Italy too! America needs it so much...
Giulio that's a good idea. Keep it simple. And then its we report - you decide. Freedom of choice still stands. So much in medical costs (taxes) for a country with unhealthy populations.
Sean Hunter What food culture? U cannot call eating artificial sweet junkie shit culture. As for elitism it is not true. Simply rich are educated and they know that they must eat less but natural preferably organic food made from scratch. Poor are too lazy to prepare their own food so they buy ready shit. That is all.
@@capitalm1257 are you trolling us?
June Giovanna R U sure? That is simple truth which people do not want to admit. Your lifestyle including food is related to your level of education and wealth. As for myself I like to eat a good food and that is the reason I like to visit Italy & France and to lesser extent Greece and Spain. Have tried the proper food in many Italian regions and looking at some American food makes me simply sick. Not all of it cause you can find some proper food in US but it comes with price.
@@capitalm1257 you're generalizing... In Italy almost everybody knows what is healthy... And poor people are often the ones who cook food, cause pre-made food costs way more, but it's fast so who works a lot often eats it for comfort... And usually who works a lot has more money. I can't speak for other countries, but in Italy we are taught at school food health education, studying science, at elementary school... And I surely think that in America there's a lot of ignorance, but I would say that is the food culture the problem... I think that a lot of Americans know that McDonald's or Burger King or KFC, etc..., it's not healthy food. They don't eat it because they think it's healthy, they eat it because they don't care if it's healthy. That's what we call food culture... A culture is something that can be negative or positive. It's the sum of all the knowledge and experiences a person went through in his life, it's not just relating to studying...
I love that her answer to showing you what real Italian food is, is to *make* it. This must be your way to get her to make more delicious food lol. Beautiful
@pastagrammer I just realized I know Evas name since the videos are more her experience of these foods but I don’t know your name. What is your name? 😊🙏🏽 You two are a great bunch.
As soon as you started cooking cannoli from scratch...what can I say😂 I’m grown up but can you adopt me? Siete fantastici 🥰
Grazie mille!!!
I love how American you are and how Italian she is. You eat something and you are like "Oh man this is so good" While she is barfing in the background xD
Harper, you did tell Eva that the great thing about Twinkies is you can put them in the pantry for 20 years and they are still fresh. LOL
But then again, just stay with her for your life, because the Conolo is awesome!
7:52 That confident smile dance!! 😍😄👌
Leave that sweet lady alone! I can't believe you gave her twinkies! Ugh!. She is lovely, much happiness to you both!
3:55 I'M LAUGHING SO HARD IT'S SO TRUE
As an Italian i have to say that Eva cooks very very good and she does all the dishes in the real italian way.
Unfortunately all this culture is going to be lost so, Harper, I think that you could be an Italian cusine ambassador by learning all the dishes that she prepares
🙏🙏🙏❤️
Eva reminds me of my cousin Adria. BTW, I was born in America, but my family, parents, aunts, uncles, etc. were all born and raised in Italy. I agree with Eva on mostly everything concerning Italian food and how to cook it. Love all your videos. Please keep them coming! Ciao!
Seeing the comparisons made me laugh so hard. I was rolling.
As a Sicilian I was kinda having an heart attack when Harper said that those things were the American version of a cannolo.
bellissimo canale.... siete una splendida coppia:)
Grazie mille!
My oh my those canoli look delicious. The mesmerizing sound of the bite each made and just the look of pure satisfaction on their faces with the real canoli makes me have canoli envy lol
I agree with Harper - there's no difference between cannoli and Twinkies :D haha.... love watching you videos! Greetings from Ireland
Thank you!
Eva: “Look, in Italy, we know how to cook” lmao
I've been watching this video for less than 30 secs and I already know how it will end
I’m from Texas and I’m Italian I’m sorry but I have to stick with Eva.
My Grandma (R.I.P.), use to make all sorts of Italian Treats. Miss her baking!
😂😂😂
When he pulled out the apple pie dessert I laughed too hard! Laughed even harder when he pulled out the Swiss roles
Those cannolis look delicious. Lucky him.
Here at Brazil we call the Second dish Rocambole
Twinkie is a baked sponge cake. The cannoli shell is fried. Luckily where I live if I want a cannoli there's quite a few Italian bakeries around that will make them up fresh for you.
The Swiss roll is basically a miniature jelly roll cake, that's also a type of sponge cake.
hahahah,i just love her face when she put Harper back in place with the real dessert!!!The face of satisfaction is so funny!!Good job guys
4:40 we dont even have them here in switzerland. I dont know if its really swiss😅
😂😂😂😂
We have them here in Switzerland stond, but they are bigger, called "Rouladen"
@@TwoForOneGaming Aaaah right but yeah theyre diffrent. Theyre not with chocalate and without cream. Its with strawberry i guess but still its not swiss 😂 i dont know why they are named swiss rolls in the states lol
I have to admit, I had Cannoli in Sicily and I was pretty underwhelmed. I can eat them but they are not interesting to me. There is other great Sicilian food that hooked me more, Arrancini, Granita di Mandorla (I learned to make that at home). I had the best food in a small restaurant in Siracusa!
Eva!! You remind me SO MUCH! Of my mama in this video when she was young. Even my husband agrees, says we could be sisters.
I do enjoy seeing Eva make the proper food at the end of your videos.
I admire how you stay slim whilst eating all that haha
6:25 maybe i can try to translate:
" Ma che cazz te magn!"
Eva hair looks so beautiful! Such healthy hair ! Especially with the sun making it glow in car ! Beautiful! ❤️
These skits are adorable, her reactions are hilarious!
I've watched a few of these videos and I get the feeling he's just trying to troll this poor woman.
Siete troppo simpatici 😂😂

She's so funny! You both are a good comedy act.
when I was in america I really did looked forward to eating a twinkie and it dissapointed me LOL!
2:58 "No, they're not artificial. These are er..." 😂😂😂
Watching this makes me realise how lovely the Italian accent can be. It sounds just so fun n vibrant even when she's hating on the food. Hope you actually have a good Italian bakery near you.
It’s an endearing accent, but maybe it’s because she’s so endearing too!
This stuff is so awesome! Happily binge watching to see all of Eva's reactions. Haha

That one bite of twinkie just shortened your life considerably, Eva🤣🤣🤣
😱😱😱😱😱
My nick name is after my favorite & BEST DESSERT EVER, cannoli❤❤❤
Our favorite as well!
You people are the best I've discovered on you tube in years. You keep me in stitches.
you guys have an amazing channel, so glad youtube randomly recommended you guys to me!
Harper I'm sorry but as a Canadian Italian a Twinkie has never reminded me of a Cannolo. Totally different flavours nice try though. I've actually enjoyed watching your videos
Eva , fargli imparare anche l 'italiano !
Eva's Cannoli is Bellissima!! Happy Holidays you too darlins 🎁😘
You guys deserve more subs , nice content keep it going fun couple!
It it true that chocolate chip cookies taste good however Italians have: Biscotti Di Mandorla, Cannelloni, Zeppolli, pan forte, panettone, crostatine, e mille tipo di torte. As for 90% of foods Italian win hands down however when it comes to smoked meats and steaks it's the US who is king.
You missed Strufolli and Zabaione.
is italian rum cake an italian-american thing or an old country thing?
panforte would be really weird for an american...:D
@@icoborg They haven't tasted it with a nice rich expresso. Don't think they even sell Sapori in the US? My mother in law makes it every Christmas however like most proud Italians the recipe is a famiy secret. We always joking ask her... she always replies yes sure when I am dead.
@mikedoesseo I never had smoked brisket. Would love to visit Texas one day and try it. As for meat and barbeques no one in my opinion beats the US. However I personally love Mediterranean food, be it Lebanese pita stuffed with spicy lamb or wood oven baked fioccias. As I said nowadays no one has time to cook. My mom spent her life practically in the kitchen and did everything from scratch, even canning tomatoes when in season homemade passata with basilico. Even her simple pizza dough was made with mother dough and left to raise twice for almost 48 hours. I use to leave in Dearborn Michigan. Another thing is the sun, in southern Italy fruits and vegetables are more flavourful as they aren't grown in glasshouses.
LOL, sneaky dog. You just want Eva to make you something yummy. LOL. Super cute the two of you are.
I love the happy dance. I also do it whenever I eat good food.
When an Italian like Ava disapproves the food In America. It says a lot about how unnatural and full of unnecessary additives there is!
There is a huge difference between real food you make or get in a bakery and mass produced long shelf life crap. It isn’t fair comparison.
It would be like comparing spaghetti-o’s with a fresh tomato sauce pasta
in germany they vould call this a vundervid which means literally "wonderful video"
Just discovered ur channel, and I'm already in love with ur contents!
🤗
Love that Eva can make all these amazing Italian foods for you. Lucky!! Move to San Francisco and Eva will be closer to Italian accessible food.
Twinkies is the farthest you could get from the cannolo :(
Is there a reason you torture like this, this pour girl ?
I love you both, you guys make such a good couple. I love how Harper is so tender
I would love it if you could go to Little Italy in New York someday to see Eva's reaction to food there! This channel puts a smile on my face. We can all use it these days ❤️.
