The Bouvier Des Flandres is a Belgium Herding dog. The breed was used to herd cattle. The modern day Bouvier does so much more, including police and military work.
La Kimba is an all around animal lover who is a fancier of the Bouvier Des Flandres. She also owns horses and cats.
Bouvier are the best dog ever. Things I didn't train my Bouvier, she just did it on her own.
I left dinner on the coffee table while I went to the kitchen to get something to drink. She has never helped herself to my food without permission. I have to tell her it's okay.
She never barks unless she thinks there is a threat.
I take her to the woods when I do beaver trapping jobs. Once the land owner of a tree farm we were working drove up with his family. Never trained her as a protection dog, but she herded the family back to their truck and held them there until I said Eva come, she came to me, then I said Eva down and she laid at my feet.
All I ever trained her for was for control commands Come...Sit... and Down. Other than that I trained her to be my best friend and pretty much let her be herself, and she has never failed to make me proud. Best dog I ever had, she just turned 3 last December.
Zeke - I have a confession to make. I've watched this video at least once a week since I've discovered it. I'm in love with Bouviers and am talking to several breeders to help us find the right puppy for our household. Your work has directly impacted me and I'll be forever thankful to you.

I grew up in the pen with them, literally. My parents Bred and showed them growing up until I was about 9. Definitely get one, but get ready to work lol. Forever my favorite breed. My mom still has a fawn and brindle.

@@thoughtdujour What? Primary companion??? What? If you want to own a Bouvier (as we did) you will simply buy into a litter, it's really not complicated, you must be a millennial. At this rate you will never enjoy the experience of sharing your life with a Bouvier.
Bouviers are incredible. One of my very best friends is a Bouvier.
He gives me unconditional love, unlike I have ever experienced before. He's so happy.
I have had 11 Bouviers over the years. My first was a police k9. Mine have done herding, obedience, agility, conformation showing, and two have been my service dogs, and three have been therapy dogs. Only drawback is grooming.
Since the ones we had (we get our third in two weeks) don't do shows we just go to a groomer and cut it all off twice a year and generally keep it short. They need to be brushed but my family just does it in the evening while watching TV and cuddleing. It's actually nice that they don't shed that much so the dog hair isn't everywhere. I prefer having to brush my dog over constantly having dog hair on me and everything I own.
I have 2 Bouvier des flandres and you really have to be at least 2 steps ahead of them at all time. These dogs are so strong mentally and physically, if you let them be stronger than you, it wont be fun. But when you got it right, this dog is awesome, you never have to tell him when it's time to be gentle or bad with whoever steps in your house, he will know it! And mines are ultra gentle with children at all time.
My husband and I have raised five Rottweilers and five bouviers. Both breeds are smart and easily trained. I currently have a female Bouvier. My constant companion. She is smart and beautiful
I've had two., Scully and Lola. Both were a real joy to own. They didn't take much training; both seemed to enjoy it, but I was damned if I could get either to jump. They liked nothing better than to herd our kids, not letting them get too far ahead. I used to take Scully to rugby matches - a bit like American football, but more vicious. She would sit or lay all the way through, but watching the ball intently. A referee was being shouted at by some of the crowd. I always make a point of thanking the ref at the end of a match, even those whose performance was not perfect, or were inadequate as in this case. She must have sensed what an effort this was going to be. I had her on a loose lead, walking to heel, went up to the ref, held out my hand, and said thanks. As the ref replied, she stood on her back legs and sort of reared up, barking that lovely deep bark Bouv's have. The ref nearly fell over backwards and I said something like, sorry, mate. Everyone's a critic.
Scully had the habit of getting up on the settee when your attention was elsewhere. All of a sudden there would be this great black dog beside you with its head on your shoulder. People were afraid of her - she was big for a Bouv - right up until they got to know her. The vets always looked forward to her coming in for a checkup. I used to take her when answering the door. I never had any aggro from visitors. She'd just sit there, staring at them. She wanted to be petted, but I didn't tell them. I put a sign on the door, Don't approach the dog unless a male occupant is present.
Lola was laid back.Grand kids would climb on her and she'd stand there with her tail, her stump really, wagging. I used to give her treats held between thumb and forefinger. She would ease them out with her tongue. She was the gentlest of dogs. I put a treat on the arm of the settee once and told her to wait. We were going shopping and leave her, the treat being a compensation. We returned about 90 mins later, and she was sitting by the settee, staring at the treat, with saliva round her mouth.It was obvious she hadn't moved. She used to catch wasps, and they would, of course, sting her. She never learned. Nor did the wasps. It really hurt when she died. The house seems so empty. I just can't bring myself to get another dog.
Scully was a Triple Champion, and exhibited at Crufts. She's featured on the Wiki Bouvier page, captioned An Adult Bouvier des Flandres and the top Bouvier des Flandres Closeup. It hurts to look at the pictures. For me they both were the perfect dog. Perhaps not the most energetic, but I ended up conforming to what they wanted - the easy life - so no problem.
My dad bought my Mom a Bouvier right before they found out they were having me. All of my childhood memories before the age of 7 have that dog in it. If I was at home that dog was at my side watching me.

lovely to see how well she is with her dogs, and horses! my bouvier pup is allmost 4 months, so happy with him, so smart and want s to listen, its amazing. i have a working line bouvier but he is very stable and friendly to other people and dogs. i start training after a month of 8 i think, but maybe i just let him this way.

May I asked the breeder that you got your Bouviers? I have own two Bouviers. Both lived to they were 12. I am absolutely still in love with this Breed. Your 7 month old is dead on to my previous two Bouviers. I miss them both. They were beyond amazing!

One of my best friends has had several Bouviers. They are great on her farm and great with kids and instinctively rural smart but urban stupid. They are a super smart breed and very communicative. They are active and sensitive.
I have a bouvier and he is huge! Even for a bouvier. He is an amazing companion, very sweet and gentle and is always looking after my daughter 😍 Oh but when he plays with the bigger humans, holy crap is he tough. It's a good work out, playing with him.🤣

I grew up with a bouvier. My parents had them as watchdogs on the farm when we were kids. Now adays I don't see them. I don't think too many people have them. If I ever see one it's a really nostalgic experience for me.

I have grown up with 2. What dhe forgot to mention is when you teach bouvier that they cant be in the kitchen when you are in, that when you walk into the kitchen they walk out with out you giving an order
Our bouv is a 120lb female. No cropped ears or tail. Never an ear issue, and they learn quick to mind their tail around the coffee table and such.
My bouvier has it's long tail and long ears. And she's gorgeous.

My pitbull puppy hated his crate and NEVER wanted to be in there. When he was he would cry for hours and fight to get out eventually destroying 2 metal crates and tearing the bars off of them.

Wow... just went through the videos on the breed on your channel. Not a single one stopped to talk about the Myriad of health problems associated with this breed. No one even mentioned the issues with this breed which is actually a costly affair, as vet visits are quite often with this breed.
I liked your videos on Black Russian Terrier and Giant Schnauzer where the health was discussed at length and even steps and remedies (with raw diet)were suggested for Giant Schnauzer. If possible, do post more on Black Russian terrier and a vide0 on health issues on Bouvier. Ofcourse, kindly adhere to the respective country/state quarantine obligations.Stay home stay safe.

I’ve owned four, healthy, long-lived Bouviers and never had health issues. I guess I was just fortunate.
I loved my Bouvier: Bubba Louis de Rastafara. Once a stranger came to use the phone after he wrecked his car by my house. The guy made the mistake of raising his hand above his head while on the phone. Bub lunged for his throat - about a 12' jump. I told him what a good boy he was. The man fled. Terrified.
I had one and a black Russian terrier....I think the best dog that one could make would be a Bouvier Des Flanders male to a kangal female....then take a male from that mix and breed it to an arginetine dogo female.......then take a male from the Bouvier,kangal,dogo mix and breed it to a...
Black Russian terrier female.......now you have a super strong well balanced...super versatile dog...... mankind is down breeding with french bulldogs...and xxxl pitbulls just for a buck or 2......we need to start up breeding... because we got lazy as a culture and are not being creative like Louis doberman....and many of the greats before him

It seems the longer hair is purely for show purposes? I live in Belgium and all Bouviers here are trimmed short. Again i haven't met show Bouviers over here so maybe they are the same.
She is correct when saying they are used for guarding and nothing else. It's one of the breeds you never see in dog parks (like rottweiler, Malinois and german shepherd) because people kinda want em to be aggressive. It's even accepted for those breeds to be like that tbh. They are kept away from visitors and other animals so those you see are behind fences or are muzzled during walks outside of the property. From childhood we were taught to stay away from Bouviers, german shepherds, and Rottweilers, no matter how sweet they seemed. But it was said for a reason! We breed em to be mean ass sons of b.... :-).
Buying this breed comes with great responsibility!! It's one of those breeds you really shouldn't underestimate. They have the potential for destruction, are known escape artists over here and are typical 'to intelligent for there own good' kinda dogs.
In short, the dog suited for 0.2% of the 'dog people' around the world.

Very important point on guarding the house (as is the member of the family point). A dog “guarding” in the yard...is a dead dog.
Today in Europe it is forbidden to cut the tail and the ears of the dogs, but the law exists since 2 years, one will not kill all the dogs with the cut tail?

They should ban docked tails and cropped ears solely for show dogs fashion purposes.
It amazes me how people let the government dictate what you can do with your . I can understand watching for abuse or endangerment but docking a tail.
Just no to the butchered ears ...I've never fallen in love with anything only to cut its ears off for aesthetics, my bouvier did fine with thier natural ears

It still blows my mind that you can crop ears and dock tails in The States purely for aesthetic reasons. Just seems unnecessary to me. Where I live, in Scotland, we can dock tails but only if you prove the dog will be raised for working purposes. If it is just a pet then it's illegal to dock a dogs tail. Great video though, they are beautiful dogs. She seems like an educated, responsible and loving owner! Great to see someone with so much passion for their dogs.

These dogs are expensive. Look to spend about 5k per puppy.
Depends where you live really. Here in Belgium you pay around 1000 - 1500 euro (+/- 1100 - 1600 dollar) for a puppy. Ofc you will find cheaper but backyard bred and more expensive because show champion bloodline etc...
I paid $600 in 86. They are expensive and I have not priced them resently but I doubt for a non show you would pay $5k
In Canada we spent about 1,800... Though if anything MAKE SURE THE BREEDER IS REGISTERED.. do not buy from a backyard breeder..
