My dad gets crownd
I don't understand royals. I have lived in a constitutional republic all my life. I don't get how the identity of a nation can be centered on a royal family.

Because that King/Queen, carry forward traditions which has been shaped by the public for a millennium, recent hundred years or recently. They represent the nation, host events, does annual speeches that families tune into, and most importantly aren’t politicians with a public bias towards their voters.
It isn't. It's just the national soap opera designed to head off more sinister flag-waving (as George Orwell pointed out).
Yet even if they desire mere equality they cannot reach it. Where men are forbidden to honor a king they honor millionaires, athletes, or film-stars instead -- even famous prostitutes or gangsters. For spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served -- deny it food and it will gobble poison.
