    First - Danny's videos are amazing! I watch every one and look forward to each new ship tour. I am not sure I would have sailed on Vista had I not watched this tour over and over!!!
    Just came off 12 days, as my 30th cruise, first on Oceania. The ship was beautiful, but sadly, the service overall was no better or worse than a Carnival cruise. I would sail on Vista again, but know that it is NOT a luxury experience. It is a fantastic ship, with some work, could be so much better.
    The good:
    Cabins are large and beautiful
    Food overall is good, fruit is amazing
    Lots of space
    Aquamar terrace is one of the best spots
    Self Serve laundry is a fantastic service
    Room Stewards are amazing
    The water stations for both still and sparkling water were fantastic
    The Polo grill is where the amazing service is. Makes you realize how poor the rest of the ship is.
    The 'country casual' dress code! Amazing.
    The not so good:
    Service overall is average. Main dining room is the weak spot here. Not sure why they serve the same four hard stale bread pieces every day. Some variety would be nice
    No bar service other than going to a bar to get a beverage. No roaming servers. If you are at the aquamar terrace and want a drink, good luck
    No food between 4:00pm and 6:30. Not great when you are coming back to the ship and nothing but cookies are available
    In the concierce self service rooms, the same 4 store bought cookies every day all day. Some variety again would have been nice.
    Room service food was stellar, but 45-60 minutes delivery time was not.
    Embarkation was a disaster. Long lines, absolutely not what I expected when I can get on Princess in 8 minutes
    No app? They do not use plastic water bottles - great - but you deliver 15 pieces of paper to each cabin every day. 21,000 pieces of paper per week.
    Overall, the staff seem sullen and disinterested. I have never seen that before.

      Oceania is upper premium, but with a small ship experience. After sailing twice on Oceania Riviera, I do agree with some of your "not so good" comments like not having an app, and the concierge cookies. We're not big alcohol drinkers, so not having roaming servers isn't an issue for us. We were usually still full from a late lunch at 4pm or 5pm, so we weren't thinking about food until dinnertime. Overall, we found the Oceania staff to be happier and more engaged than we experienced on Princess. And both of our Oceania embarkations were quick and easy. Polo Grill was good, but our favorites were Red Ginger and Jacques. Needless to say, we have 3 upcoming Oceania cruises (Marina, Vista, and Allura). Carnival and Princess ships have far too many passengers for us. Trying to go ashore on a Princess tender takes the better part of an hour. And the Princess upcharges are out of control. Not to mention us tripping over all of the Princess photographers.

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před rokem +4

      The biggest difference you'll notice is no lines for anything. We were onboard Oceania Riviera in Barcelona within 10 minutes after arriving at the cruise terminal. We never even sat down in the terminal. And no need for reserved dining times in the main dining room. Just go whenever you want, and you're immediately seated. The Main Dining Room staff greeted us by name starting on the second day.

      @presto4103 I was on Oceania Riviera. I thought I would spend a lot of time in the Aquamar Terrace because on Princess, we spent a lot of time in the Sanctuary. But we never went to the Aquamar Terrace on Oceania. Here's why. The pool deck on Princess can be chaotic with loud music, lounge chair hogs, and lounge chairs with no cushions. The Sanctuary remedies all of that. However, the pool deck on Oceania is inviting and generally serene, with ample unreserved cushioned loungers in the sun and in the shade. And a wide selection of food is just steps away. There was no need to go to Aquamar Terrace.

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před 3 měsíci

      @@RRLV434Yes. Specialty restaurant reservations should be made weeks before boarding your ship, after you have your excursion schedule. But if you change your mind on any given day, you can certainly cancel your reservation and go to the main dining room or the Terrace Cafe or dine in your cabin.

    Now that Celebrity is doing away with the butlers for Sky Suites I think Oceania will be our new preference. Looks like penthouse suites are similar in price but offer so much more. Nearly 12 years with Celebrity but when you cheapened the product we started looking at Oceania.

      My wife and I are actually trying Oceania Vista on a 10 day Caribbean cruise in the Penthouse suite December 30th this year our first.
      We also are trying out Celebrity in mid October this year as well on board there soltice class ship Equinox for the first time to the ABC Islands in there Aqua Class stateroom.
      Definitely will be looking forward to comparing the two cruise lines since we have never sailed either one before.
      Our past 3 cruises were with Norwegian and Carnival.

    Excellent tour Danny! We want to try Oceana but our only concern is the dress code, especially for dinner/at night. We are looking at a 7 day one for the Caribbean but simply don't like to get too "fancy" for a vacation. What are your thoughts on the dress code?

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před rokem +5

      The dress code on Oceania is country club casual for all dinners. A little more casual is acceptable at the Terrace Cafe (buffet). Oceania doesn't have "formal nights". We've been on two Oceania cruises and we currently have 3 more booked.

      I couldn't agree more. As a Viking Ocean cruiser, this ship doesn't catch my fancy. The lounges & bars seem limited in variety & space for the number of passengers onboard. To many specialty dining rooms. A cooking room & art room, no thanks. No wrap around promenade deck & aft deck space is also limited. One main pool, that isn't covered. Thankfully the Viking Ocean ships tick all my requirements!

      @@HarrTravel I meant more the allocation to spa facilities and private function rooms. I am not sure why you assumed I thought the ship would have zip lines and race cars after they weren't shown in your video 😅

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před rokem

      @@trainattendant5810 We love cruising on Oceania, as we place a high value on great food and personalized service. For example, Oceania has a bakery on board, and they bake fresh bread, cakes, etc daily. The mega ships would bring in sliced bread to refrigerate for days before they're served up. Personally, we'd rather take a cooking class than hang out in a bar. Unfortunately not many new ships come with a wrap around promenade deck anymore. A retractable cover for the pool deck would be awesome! We are also interested in checking out Viking Ocean.

      Oceania Vista looks good to me as it has a huge main pool and also a Aquamar pool and hot tubs as well with plenty of all included specialty restaurants and plenty of bars and high end entertainment from my research and only a capacity of 1,200 Passengers.
      Looks to be be very pampering and luxurious accommodations on par with other premium lines but there are plenty to choose from.

    Why did they eliminate Jacques and add Ember, which is not as good, not even close?

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před 3 měsíci

      Good question. Maybe Oceania thought that the Jacques menu was too fancy for a majority of passengers? That was my original thought, but I had wonderful meals in Jacques on Riviera. Fortunately all of the popular menu items from Jacques are available on the menu in the main dining room on Vista. I'll reserve judgement on Ember until I give it a try.

      Can you elaborate on your experience more? What do you mean the restaurants were booked? Every day? All of them?

    • @DaveM-FFB
      @DaveM-FFB Před 3 měsíci +1

      The main dining room and the Terrace Cafe don't require reservations. Just show up and you'll be immediately seated. The 4 specialty restaurants require reservations. Your travel agent should remind you to make those reservations weeks before your cruise. Since the 4 specialty restaurants are complimentary, they will always be fully booked at the last minute (unless there's a cancelation). Oceania tries their best to ensure that passengers can dine at each specialty restaurant once per week, but you'll need to book well in advance to get your preferred day and time.
