That video was a ton of fun to make so I guess the only question is which looks better pearls or flakes? Thanks for watching guys
Both look good, I would like to try flake in base color maybe smaller flake in clear coat.
FLAKE
@@robmarchion6708flake will not work in the base coat. It is designed to work in clear that is being used as a binder. I’ve done it unintentionally before just cause I had extra paint mixed up and it just didn’t work out. You could not see the metallic that was in the base but any metallic I put in the first coat or two showed up perfect.
@@1982MCI Thanks for the reply. I've just retired and am trying to learn painting as something to keep me busy. All these videos and comments have been helpful. I have a number of older jeeps that need new paint!
That flake is beautiful really pops like con🎉fetti in the sun
The flake looks like a bass boat. Lol
Would love to see a follow up video with the "correct" amounts of pearl and flake.
As always, great video. I really enjoy your approach.
Team Micro Flake! Looks awesome!
Team micro flakes!, great job I love the blue!
Think the flake looked really good. The pearl just shows how quickly it can take over n complete change a color. I like both pearls and flakes. Depends on the build style. Light or heavy pearl or a large flake or micro flake. Learning alot more thru your channel for sure. Thanks for all the good info.
That looks amazing the front looks luke rhe deep blue sea! Im digging it💪🏿
Team micro flake!! Can’t wait until you do this with yellow great job!
Hey thanks for the screw up on the pearl. That color is close to what I am trying to accomplish with my 1988 Isuzu Pup - Cerulean Pearl Metallic. Paint Code 845). I had Lowes make a sample quart with the Krylon Tintable Enamel that is close to what I want. I had some touch up paint they used for a color match. Lowes also had some Silver Paint Crystals that I am going to add to give the paint a metallic look. Now I got to get my turbine paint system built, so I can dial in the paint. LOL
the micro flake by far the best .
Love the flakes side.
I like both, more differences between than i thought. I would lime to try a heavy flake in base and smaller flake in clear coats.
I like the flake best but I think a smaller amount of pearl and flake one sprayered on top of the other would look awesome over the basecoat.
Shows up good its awesome
We need a galaxy paint job with pearls would be awesome
Flakes for the 🏆 win
Like both
Came out great 4.9 on all 3 sections. On my van there is going a mix of pearl and flake. I'll be using Lil Daddy Roth flake on it in 2 sizes. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏
No such thing as too much Flake, the Blue House of Kolor Flake looks awesome on that Gloss Blk. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
The effect of the flake is beautiful! The pearl and flake difference is definitely prominent- maybe overdoing the pigments was a good thing for effect.
I really like the flake, but I think I’ll stick with Pearl on my project.
Thank you for the video
There was too pearl on this or too many coats, I like tbe flake, it was just right
They both look awesome, I'm par to the flakes.
4 on the flake. I think that might be the trick for my 1950 Studebaker Coupe this summer.
Thanks to you, I feel confident I can put a nice paint job on my next race car. Up till now, it was stock paint or rattle can primer
Glad to help thanks for watching
I like doing a combination of Pearl and flake
Really like the metal flake side. Maybe the pearl would look better outsida.
There both GREAT!!❤
Both look good, but I’ve always leaned more towards flacks. Imo they grab your attention faster. Keep up the good videos.
My choice is metallic over black.
Looking good nice
Both look good but I like the flake s
Wow, a lot of difference in the colors. I liked the color of the flake better but I would like it with a smaller flake. Cool, nice one.
Does the flake has a micron size on the jar?
Yes I'm not at the shop right now but I'll check it and get back with you
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS Thanks, no hurry, it is just for reference so i have an idea of what a flake might look like that I'm looking at buying.
.008 is the micron size on the flake
awesome video
I like the flake
Really nice color pallet bro. They both looked amazing in their own right. Me personally, I like the metallic finish. That royal blue tone just pops. Nice job brother!! Blessings 🙏
“Dump it into the Vevor gun” made me chuckle some, but proof was in the pudding… The pearl got applied quite heavy and consequently uneven cover, The flake was interesting color, But together in the middle that’s five star.
Yep I try to have fun with it nothing's ever scripted with me lol I overloaded the mix big time but it still turned out pretty cool the next episode is a minimal pearl episode so stay tuned thanks for watching
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKSmay help if you drop a tip size on the Ol’ Vevor gun also so your not throwing so much material out at one time and will help maintain a more uniform application. It’s not a huge deal on all these test panels but sometimes I have to rewind 5-6 times to rewatch cause my eyes keep focusing on the blotchiness of it instead of focusing on the colors. My experience is that the heavier I lay it on, the less it looks like pearl to me which is why I have to vote for the flake on this one cause the pearl just appears to be a sky blue metallic this go around and not a blur pearl but the flake is the best one you’ve sprayed yet and that’s gonna be perfect for my upcoming paint job on my Coach. Good thing I’ve got multiple colors and designs on this rig tho so I’m gonna be using everything on it from flake to pearls and candy with special effects so it’s gonna be a fun job!! This would make a great rig to actually paint with you and make video’s from it to show guys how to get the look of a $50k paint job for less than $2,500. That’s actually a really cool idea, what state are you in? Lol
Anyhows, In all seriousness, this was another awesome video with great results!!! That house of kolor blue flake is going on my rig for sure tho, lol 😂, it’s a big time winner!!!
@1982MCI I appreciate the info I'm actually in North Carolina yeah I'm dropping the pigment load a lot of times I just increase it so the camera can pick things up better and depending on the lighting it can get pretty overwhelming or underwhelming. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching
I was hoping you would do a 3rd section with pearl and flake mixed together.
Yeah I got a pretty decent blend mix in the middle of Pearl and flake but I'm going to do more with both in a future video so stay tuned
Not really overlapping, but actually mixed together so the pearl would be the main pigment with a little extra sparkle from some microflake.
I don’t see anything wrong with either color love them both
Personally for me it depends on what car it's being applied on:
A. A modified (project) car - Pearl 👌
B. A Custom Hotrod - Flakes 😍
Your right I think each have their place to shine but I'm all about mixing it up so stay tuned it's just gonna get crazier lol
Fire team blended lol
I would love that pearl on my olds cutlass and the flakes on my dodge truck
Pearls seem to give a more soothing effect than flake.
Ou need to try this again ! Way too much pearl in the clear
Yea it was stay tuned to next episode where we go a little more subtle
I'm liking this comparison here. I'm leaning towards the pearls. I can see where if I'm wanting coverage I might need to go that route. I see a colorshift pearl, green to bronze, I'm wanting to spray on my 97 Mustang. This really helps. Can you do something with a brighter yellow like the sun yellow? Great video?
Yes sir stay tuned
I give the Flake a solid 5 and the Pearl a 4
I'd be interested in seeing some purple pearl over an orange if you think it would work out.
We will try it out stay tuned
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS I definitely will. Both of my bikes are orange not by choice and purple is my favorite color.
Looks awesome with that fade
The flakes
I saw blotching in the pearl so I’m thinking flake is easier to spray. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
There was way too much pearl in that amount of clear so it clumped. A little goes a very long way with both thanks for watching
What if you were to mix pearl with about 25 % flake? Just thinking.
Yeah that would be a really cool experiment might be for a future video so stay tuned
How would that flake look in a chameleon paint?? Just wondering. Both look great!!
We will definitely find out in a future episode so stay tuned thanks for watching
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS awesome! Great content keep it coming!!
What kind of clear and hardner? Rust-Oleum?
If not, it doesn't lift Rust-Oleum?
No that's a common misconception 2K urethane clear works great with Rustoleum I've never had any issues with it lifting as long as the surface was properly prepped
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS that's the brand? 2k?
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS how long Rust-Oleum dry time? Scotch Brite or no?
No 2K is the makeup means it has a hardener agent with it but it's a urethane based clear so it doesn't have the same issues here's the link to some I use
amzn.to/3Jl6qGe
@victoramato4692 I typically clean everything with wax and grease remover and sand it down with 600 grit a scotch bright would work too and then put the Rustoleum on and wait until it's tacky but doesn't pull paint off with your finger then you can start applying clear coat typically in about 30 to 45 minutes after your last coat of Rust-Oleum
Micro flakes
Flakes are way better.....not really into the pearls that are available
A++++
