I absolutely love the fact that you took Betty down the strip, and won! You'd have done better with an empty trunk. Never underestimate that giant 472. When I was a kid I drag raced in my 69 Sedan Deville many times, and won most of the time, made a lot of people mad, especially when they were making fun of my big old boat just before I blew their doors off. I learned very early I could sit on the starting line roasting my tires off, or get her moving, then bury the gas pedal in the floorboard, meanwhile the competition was still smoking their tires, and I was already half way down the track. Good times. One of my friends recently pulled the 472 and turbo 400 out of the caddy he inherited from his mom, rebuilt the engine and put it in his Chevy C-10 short bed pickup. It's sweet.
Being a disabled gearhead and unable to get out much, I can't tell you how much I appreciate tagging along via video with you and the family. It's the next best thing to being there. TY.
I'm with you brother between my wheelchair and the recliner this is the most fun I've had sitting down. Probably not

I refuse to get my disabled status in Canada (our government screws us 4 ways from Sunday). The company I work for, is really good at recognizing my disability, and working with in my confines.
I'm a 4 Wheeler (or was). I dont get out much anymore, I own a 2003 Chevy Tracker LT 4x4.. If I do go out I play it safe these days.. cause *when* I get stuck now, I am screwed..
Well, I'm a blind gearhead with a little bit of vision left. Cant see to drive em', but man I love cars. I guess I'm also along for the ride. Yee haa!

Cadillac was always a pretty fast car for what it was. Betty even manages to pass a few gas stations.

16.84 in a bone stock Caddy weighing in at @ 4700 lbs. I’m impressed, I was thinking somewhere around 18 or so would have been good. That was a solid run Derek. And that Lincoln sure was purty too. 2 boulevard cruisers having at it. Looks like you and the family are having a ball 👍👍

With a blown out muffler and a trunk full of "doo dads" and "whatnots", I figured about 18 seconds. Nope. Betty scoots pretty good. I'll be dipped!

Just when you think you’ve seen everything go down the track at Lucas Oil during test and tune nights. A 70s Caddy with no shocks, full trunk, and a 60s Lincoln go head to head during power tour 😂 Bring Betty back in town for SCT.
i must say, watching you from london england. its so nice to see how you get these old cars and bring them back from the grave. its made me start to do the same over here in the uk. you and your family are so nice. keep up the good work hope to see you all in the uk one day maybe recover an old english car.

Man that’s just amazing. That car was sent out to the pasture (swamp) years ago and just look at her now. I swear I could see that car smiling as it was going down the track.
When the drag race started I was able to go get a cold snack and use the restroom but still make it back to view the finish. LOL

Testament to the greatness of what Cadillac/GM was in the 60's. This Deville was asleep for the last 50 years and now is being beaten to within an inch of its life and driven all over half the country and still isn't breaking down. I don't know if a 21 Caddy would stand up to this level of abuse without a trip to the dealer for some warranty work.
In 51 years, if the computer is still working in a 2021, you might have a chance.. but by then, everything about that car will be forced obsolete.

Loved this video. Betty running a16:84, damn. That Lincoln was slick as hell. This is what Power Tour is all about, hanging out with other car people and having a blast with your family and friends.
Waiting for the "Not-Rod / No Power Tour". You have to tow your rig to 5 different sites and hit junkyards on the way to pick parts to get it running.

I love the fact that you are teaching people the value of fixing what you have instead of throwing it away. Too many of us just throw it in the trash instead of valuing what we have and making it last. I do the same thing with computers, just not as talented and humorous as you do. Thank you so much!!!

It didn't surprise me that you won against the Lincoln. I was surprised though by how much! WOW! The 1970 was one of the fastest Cadillacs made before the North Star. 0-60 in 7.8 seconds was considered VERY good in 1970. It still is.

I've owned both. Well actually 2 472 Caddys and 1 500. And also a 430 Lincoln. Any of the Caddys would smoke the Lincoln. That 430 was pathetic even after dumping $5k into it. You should see what an Edlebrock intake and 750 cfm carb will do to those Caddys...holy smoke they wake up.
Unbelievable how far this car has come since the revival. Never thought it would go that fast on the 1/4 mile, then I remembered it's a 1970's car. No Check Engine Light and no sensors to speak of, and no limp mode, but what they did have was Heart. These machines were built to run, and nothing else got in the way of that. Thanks for the videos. very cool... Cheerz

Loved the drag race! During the 2019 Tour I raced a Bugeye Sprite with my Mini. Didn’t even hit 60 in the 1/4 mile. Huge fun.

And also that it weighs about 2-1/2 tons. Literally I think the curb weight of a 70 Caddy DeVille was 4690 lbs.

I would have tipped 17s if I was watching in 2021 and was pleasantly surprised to see 16.8s. Boot full of tools and etcs was probably worth another 0.5s. Nothing wrong with that old engine. I used to read US car magazines in the 70s and remember the performance figures for some of those land yachts. Lots of fun until the first corner. ;)

Being born and raised around Indy and living now in Rural WI it never occurred to me until I left how fortunate I was living so close to the track and all the events it hosts.
